Television confessional

I watch two shows when I can...Bones and House.

Bones because it's full of geeky hot chicks.

House because my mother told me I reminded her of Dr. House, so I watched it to see. It makes me happy to know my mother thinks I'm that much of an asshole. My Ex thought I was like House for other reasons (thankfully).

Other than that I don't watch much TV.

Do you watch anything in particular...on purpose?

House is tops. Have you noticed the "Lupis" thing?

Saw the one with Obama - almost a political commercial.
Interesting sub-plot involving House agreeing to make a speech against his will in return for a pay-off re: his staff.

Could that have been a message? Perhaps the producers were ordered to do the show by upper management for $$, and ratings.

Still watching Law and Order. The Closer is good.

Jon Stewart has the best news on TV.

SciFi - Stargate (now in reruns), Stargate Atlantis, Eureka (Fun), Heroes, Flash Gordon (slowly growing on me). PainKiller Jane, 4400, Bionic Woman

BBC - Dr. Who, Torchwood, Robin Hood.

Also - The Closer, Monk, Ugly Betty, Reaper, Chuck (more fun than I thought it would be), House, New Amsterdam, Terminator: The Sara Connor Chronicles, Journeyman, Ebert and Roeper, Tech Now

PBS Frontline, American Experience, Lovejoy, Mystery, Great Performances, POV

I also watch a lot of independent films. Sounds like a lot, but really only a few of these series run at the same time. I am seeing 7 hours of these series per week currently. I watch no reruns and I Tivo everything and skip the commercials.

I rewatched the firefly series on Hulu recently. Wonderful! www.hulu.com/watch/4569/...0,vepisode,1

      oh my i forgot...

I used to love dead like me...I was addicted to that show and the first season of dexter had me hooked...

dead like me was about grim reapers...and their work as death workers...it was actually well written and funny in a twisted dark way...my kind of show.

I have no idea what any of these shows are. What, who?

No tv since '93. Yeah, seriously, I have not had a hooked up television for fifteen years and I don't miss it a bit. But sometimes in social situations people talk about this show or that and I'm completely in the dark. Like now for instance. lol

There are thousands of movies, books, cassette tapes, cds, record albums...and walk out the door and discover a whole world that is far more interesting than sitting in a room with blue-light television glare.

And I think it was the best damn thing for my kids, too, when they were in elementary school. They showed all the signs of addiction when it went out the door...scary! But they got over it, became far more active, and did better in school.

I don't watch too many shows where I never miss an episode. Two exceptions are The West Wing (now only on DVD. I own the whole set) and Jerico. Jerico is the best show I have seen since TWW. Often I will catch Stargate (and SGA), Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who (I also own over 200 episodes on VHS), Torchwood, and now Robin Hood. I don't count content shows like MSNBC or PBS.

I like watching Antiques Roadshow. As Time Goes By with Dame Judi Densch (BBC). Good Times before the Janet Jackson days. HGTV House Hunters. Occasional sports. M*A*S*H. I enjoy House, too. I just rarely watch anything on TV, and I have no idea when these shows are on.

        right of now, no tv
we download what we hear about, watch it and if it is a movie we like, we will then drive into town about an hour way and see it dubbed in French. The originals are always better. Last time we saw I am Legend, Will Smith sounded like Passi a French Hip Hop thug, just didn't work. And Robert Deniro, the voice they use on him, almost sounds like an italian drag queen.....
last we saw Mad Men and New Amsterdam, which would take about another year to get here.

Lately, I've rekindled my love of hockey and have been watching the NHL playoffs (go Pens!!).

Mostly though, I tend to watch Family Guy, South Park, The Office (US version) and The Simpsons.

I really watch too much TV - my husband doesn't know how to be in the house w/ it off. It drives me nuts, cause I'm bad on my own. When he left for two weeks to Argentina I celebrated w/ turning the TV off and not getting on the internet for 4 days.

I console myself w/ the fact that I'm always doing something while its on. He is addicted anything futbol/soccer related, Two and a Half Men which I hate the fact that I like it occasionally. Then we'll both watch Simpson's, Family Guy, Monk, Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens most of those we watch while I prepare and during dinner.

Shows that I actually make an effort to watch: Heros, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Decker, and The L Word.

Have never been able to watch any show with a laughtrack - and you can tell right off which ones do. Most comedies do now. i love Dancing w/Stars and So U Think U Can Dance, the best, any dance shows i can get. Survivor. No other reality shows. Daily Show & Colbert. There are shows I really like but they're on at an impossible time for me, like Reno 911 and i'd probably like 30Rock. Gray's Anatomy, ER. Most Masterpiece Theatre stuff. I will watch Bones, House, Law & Order - I like Cold Case due to Lily - I keep thinking she's wearing a wig, and she's so eerily pale - it's fascinating. And I adored a lot of defunct shows, like West Wing and Third Watch. Network TV's gotten just awful; the few good shows are still put up against each other and with my new VCR/DVD combo thing I can no longer tape one while watching another, it crashes it somehow. I have the most minimal cable here. I mostly watch TV to go to sleep so I do concentrate on quiet shows.

BTW I thank my lucky stars House and that team and hospital aren't real. And I hate House, the character!!! What a complete jerk!

I tend to have the TV on most of the time as background noise as I am doing other things. Shows I actually sit and watch though:

        House
        Law & Order
        Law & Order CI
        CSI

I too have been told that I am as snarky as House by a couple of people, I think House must be modeled after a Kaiser Dr only much smarter

i don't have cable (jai, you know you're allowed to buy internet separate from cable, right? :^) -- so i only get four channels, and for other stuff, i get it on netflix.

and the stuff i do watch? shockingly trashy. the bachelor, dancing with the stars, american idol.... and i am totally hooked on supernanny (that's not trashy, though, it's simply miraculous to have people see how very simple it is to set boundaries with your kids and create a happy family).

i never watch csi or shows based on solving sensational bloody crimes. ewwwww.

i netflix the dog whisperer, who i have a massive crush on, and have been making my way through a number of cable series that were recommended to me: lovejoy, flight of the conchords (omg, the funniest ever), six feet under, weeds, freaks and geeks, deadwood (remarkable stuff that), torchwood (saw the first few episodes, not sure i'm going to be hooked on it).

when i work at night, i have tv on in the background, with cheesy entertainment shows (but TMZ really rocks, paparrazzi with a sense of humor, comes on at 2am here), sex and the city, seinfeld, grays anatomy, things that i dont really need to pay attention to. if i had cable, i'd watch more home and fashion makeover shows... oh, and i am a collector, so antiques roadshow is always a winner.

yeah ~ another vote of approval for Antiques Roadshow
& add If Walls Could Talk
& Futurama to my previous list

it's difficult for me to get into any show with a continuing storyline over the whole season, as I don't keep a regular schedule that allows for me to be in the same place, same time week after week in order to be able to follow it ~ the emergence of TV shows on DVD really helps that out ~ I'd rather spend a few hours watching all the episodes back to back, then attempt to plan my life around a TV schedule

Arrested Development was, by far, the best TV show I'd ever seen that way ~ I can't recommend the DVD highly enough!

      love all-ways,

leslie, here comcast has a monopoly; you must have TV first to get internet; the 2 together (most basic versions) are already over $100/month. when digital mandatory it'll be lots more $. I hate comcast. no other choice -

you mean your phone company doesn't have dsl services? my dsl comes through the phone line, and yeah, you have to have that first.

we used to have cable in the flat, and then switched to a dish. and then when the old tv-watching roomies moved out, i decided no more, and i just watch what i can get without cable. when digital happens, and there aren't any more signals, i'll think about what to do then... my sister and my daughter both have the minimal cable package, which you apparently only get when you ask... it has about ten or 12 channels and costs like 15 bucks a month. apparently a well-kept secret that was discovered when my sister tried to cancel their pricey package.

I did used to have t.v. - & when I did watch.. I loved Northern Exposure! also.. I will confess... I used to watch.. VH1 Classic and animal planet!
I love the BBC's planet earth series.. I am watching that now. I have a friend who is a movie junkie so I watch his movies..
I do like the Simpsons.. that is terrible replacing it with Baywatch! I heard there was already a glut of fake boob values there..

planet earth is in my netflix rotation, and someone told me you can buy it at costco for like 20 bucks for the whole thing... that is what i'm giving people for christmas this year. absolutely amazing.

and honestly, i don't think the simpsons OR baywatch are appropriate for kids. can't those people come up with something that is actually age appropriate? bring back the smurfs ;^)

We don't have tv. I didn't have it and only had movies for the longest time. I was with a guy for about 3 years and we had tv since he was a sports fanatic. Then after the relationship ended I saw that we really only watched two shows and I could see them on the internet so we haven't had tv again.

We watch Lost and Ghost Hunters. That's pretty much it.

Ghost Hunters is awesome! I love a good ghost story and their approach to haunted places in a observation/seudo-science level is great.

I don't watch much TV at all and we catch a show here and there but nothing that we're addicted to. I think I would watch more TV is I did have to deal with the commercials. I like PBS for that reason, I'm not interrupted in my story by a screaming idiot trying to sell me stuff I don't need every 12 minutes.
