DEFINITIONS AND DISTINCTIONS

FREE MARKET: That condition of society in which all economic transactions result from voluntary choice without coercion.

THE STATE: That institution which interferes with the Free Market through the direct exercise of coercion or the granting of privileges (backed by coercion).

TAX: That form of coercion or interference with the Free Market in which the State collects tribute (the tax), allowing it to hire armed forces to practice coercion in defense of privilege, and also to engage in such wars, adventures, experiments, “reforms,” etc., as it pleases, not at its own cost, but at the cost of “its” subjects.

PRIVILEGE: From the Latin privi, private, and lege, law. An advantage granted by the State and protected by its powers of coercion. A law for private benefit.

USURY: That form of privilege or interference with the Free Market in which one State-supported group monopolizes the coinage and thereby takes tribute (interest), direct or indirect, on all or most economic transactions.

LANDLORDISM: That form of privilege or interference with the Free Market in which one State-supported group “owns” the land and takes tribute (rent) from those who live, work, or produce on the land.

TARIFF: That form of coercion or interference with the Free Market in which commodities produced outside the State are not allowed to compete equally with those produced inside the State.

CAPITALISM: That organization of society, incorporating elements of tax, usury, landlordism, and tariff, which thus denies the Free Market while pretending to exemplify it.

CONSERVATISM: That school of capitalist philosophy which claims allegiance to the Free Market while actually supporting usury, landlordism, tariff, and sometimes taxation.

LIBERALISM: That school of capitalist philosophy which attempts to correct the injustices of capitalism by adding new laws to the existing laws. Each time conservatives pass a law creating privilege, liberals pass another law modifying privilege, leading conservatives to pass a more subtle law recreating privilege, etc., until “everything not forbidden is compulsory” and “everything not compulsory is forbidden.”

SOCIALISM: The attempted abolition of all privilege by restoring power entirely to the coercive agent behind privilege, the State, thereby converting capitalist oligarchy into Statist monopoly. Whitewashing a wall by painting it black.

ANARCHISM: That organization of society in which the Free Market operates freely, without taxes, usury, landlordism, tariffs, or other forms of coercion or privilege. RIGHT ANARCHISTS predict that in the Free Market people would voluntarily choose to compete more often than to cooperate. LEFT ANARCHISTS predict that in the Free Market people would voluntarily choose to cooperate more often than to compete.

FREE MARKET: a) One of the many systems which devalue the majority b) A clever marketing gimmick of an elitist agenda through the use of the positive connotation associated with the word "free"

    :-)

I'd do more, but no time now. I like making up my own definitions for words.

    troll

One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

I'm not sure whether that's directed at me or at Evan. Either way... someone speaking their mind is not trolling. I'm pretty sure that causing disruption and argument wasn't Evan's intent. And I'm 100% positive that it wasn't my intent. I, personally, would prefer to talk about things with people even if they disagree than to sweep anything that may be in any way controversial under the rug... or to limit my discussion about those things with people that I'm fairly sure will agree with me.

I think evan is deliberately being provocative. The original post is not thought out commentary but a copy and past red flag to wave and try to start an argument. I don't think you do that even a little exio, but evan is a serial offender in this in my opinion. Sorry for the confusion on that. This is not speaking one's mind, but a case of a true believer trying over and over to brow beat the rest of us with a fundamentalist belief system that he has absolutely no intention of modifying......what basis for conversation is that? False basis, that is what basis.

The piece is quite deliberately provocative...and written to make people think.... This is one of the things I like about Robert Anton Wilson's writings. They cause people to think. To view things from a different perspective.

It was not intended as a troll, but as a post to illustrate how I tend to see things....

You may think of me as a serial offender troll if you like, Wil...but then I'd say you've completely missed what a troll is. We've had a great many of them hop in and out of this group over the years, and I don't think I qualify. Feel free to judge me, however...you're free to label me whatever you like....

I consider myself an idealist, not a fundamentalist. And no, I won't likely change from Anarchist to anything else, no matter the amount of Socialist, Democratic, Republican, Communist, Capitalist or other propaganda to which I may be exposed. But again, feel free to judge and label me however you wish. If "fundamentalist" fits for you...so be it.

I honestly posted it because I thought it might be interesting to some folks here, and apparently it was at least interesting enough for some folks to comment.

I don't agree with some of what's been posted in response, but I haven't lunged out at them, called them names, or anything of that kind...which I'd consider "typical troll behavior."

So...if all that makes me a "troll" in your mind...so be it. No skin off my neck.

    ooh... I've got some more:

FREE MARKET: a) One of the philosophies which holds one of man's creations as being higher than man himself b) That side of the push-pull dynamic that pushes for a complete lack of control, thereby supporting complete control

Robert Anton Wilson would have done well in applying his "hodge-podge" theory to his own views ;-)

exio: "That side of the push-pull dynamic that pushes for a complete lack of control, thereby supporting complete control"

It also allows the most aggressive and dominant individual or group to maintain control over the entire population without opposition once they gain an advantage over their competetitors. The idea behind the free-market is, I think, to allow strongest or "best" to prosper through out-competeting the inferior. However, once no one else is able to compete, the dominant group can do whatever they want and no one can do anythiing about it. (This is why we have anti-trust laws.)

The argument against that is usually something along the lines of "anyone can come up with a better product and compete with the monopoly." However, there comes a point where that becomes impossible.

It's like saying that anyone is welcome to start a new Government in the US at any time. All they have to do is raise a two million man army and develop weapons systems, a training program, and an industrial base to supply their army.

Even with protective laws, Microsoft's competeitors have a hard time even though many of them have arguably superior products. Without protective laws they likely wouldn't exist.

The opposite extreme, a completely closed market is no better, since then there is no innovation.

That's why I'm a Radical Moderate and ruthlessly pursue the middle path when it comes to the Right vs. the Left, or Capitalists vs. Communists, or Libertarians vs. Socialists, or whatever opposiing "ists" are out there.

"Even with protective laws, Microsoft's competeitors have a hard time even though many of them have arguably superior products."

Yeah... Microsoft was putting out inferior products from the get-go. Fortunately for Bill Gates, he's a brilliant marketer (the only real requirement for success in a very market-based society). Unfortunately for us, computer technology has suffered because of it.
