I'm listening to a panel right now at the Computers, Freedom, and Privacy conference about the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative and enhanced driver's licenses.

The general consensus is that Real ID as Real ID is pretty dead. However there is a move afoot to change the name and bring most of the 'features' into a new card. The new bill to do this might be called The PASS ID Act, although I couldn't find it in Thomas.
