Pass ID would repeal Real ID (yay) but is so close to Real ID that it is almost as bad.
There's a senate hearing tomorrow on Real ID and the Pass ID bill. The panels are stacked against us, as you can see below. Ari Schwartz of CDT is usually with us, but not on this issue. CDT is going to testify that Pass ID should go into effect while Real ID should be repealed. Other than Ari, there's no one who would take the civil liberties side.

The extreme nutshell that I got out of this is that Janet Napolitano says that Real ID is "DOA", but supports Pass ID. There's a contingent of Congress people who don't think that Pass ID is privacy-invasive enough and so will be working to make it look (and act) more like Real ID.
