I also want to make sure we have a thread started for discussion of these very important concepts.

Affluenza.org and the related books and TV shows, available to borrow from most good libraries, is a great roadmap for anyone interested in or curious about simpler living, ethical consumerism, reduced environmental impact or just saving money and having more time to be with friends and family, or time to make/meet them.

I highly recomend that everyone check them out.

    Hi there,
I had a quick look at affluenza.org, it looks like a great website and I'm looking forward to a more in depth look at it. However, while the basic concepts will still apply, I find that it's very US orientated, do you know of any similar resources for us here in the UK and especially Northern Ireland as somethimes when you get down to the practical stuff the information given on the US sites just isn't practical and can't apply.

Actually some of the biggest areas where the ideas have been applied are throughout the UK and Northern Europe. The one simple living small club that they mention a lot in particular was in Germany and another was in London.

It does get a bit more challenging as you get into more rural environments, rather ironically when you think about how the rural lifestyle has traditionally been the core of simple living.

Two of the best first steps I found are to put up notes at local places where people of similar inclination might be found so you can share tips on resources and options, and the other is to start up a local farmers market if you do not have one already. It is amazingly easy to start one up, most places will donate the space or the town will often allow it on less busy streets or in a municipal parking lot and if the fee for a table is kept low enough you will see a huge response from local farmers who are happy to sell direct and see more return on their efforts.
