A few of my friends and I may be interested in chipping in as a fun activity for one of the days. We could set up a little workshop for others to participate in. Could be a silly fun time.

What's body paint run these days? I'm only versed in Elvis Jumpsuits.

...sounds like an 'interactive arts' installation, to me!
I suggest applying for a grant!

I would aim for at least 30 or 40 people getting painted per day....

I suggest the "event" happen one day for a length of time. Then we could get more of a turnout at once and a bit of peer pressure. It will take some resources to volunteer time to organize as well as keeping areas cleaned up as best as possible. People painting people painting people painting people.

Saturday at noon until exhausted resources??

I'm with Patrick though on overall numbers....think we should look at about 100 peeps at least.

I still need to figure out how much money a bunch of paint is going to cost. also i was thinking of painting a sign announcing "body paint"
hhhhmmmm what all to you think we are going to need.???

I can bring a folding table to prop all our supplies and a little "pop-up" 10x10 tent.

We'll have some camping chairs that we can bring over for the while as well.

We should get a bullhorn / megaphone...the Shire isn't that massive....anyone have a lead on this or where we can get one locally? I'm wanting to buy one anyways and could use any leads.

Other things we should consider....brushes, buckets, water / cleaning supplies??

and not just a bullhorn, you have a full musical range of songs pre-programmed in #93 one of my favorites! (of course mine is a circa 1978 models, they may have updated the song selection in recent decades : ))

Bull horns at rebirth are fun!

I still remember all the looks we got at DUCK GUILD when we were shouting at people!!

                        Bull horns are a must!!!

lol there should be a bullhorn camp.... build a little raised deck with some chairs on it to facilitate viewing the walking masses and critique them in shallow and cruel ways....

Alright...we'll have a 2 strike policy on the horn w/ Ethereal as the monitor.

Latex is ideal I believe...I was emailing friends their suggestions as well...anyone have a favorite vendor?

Yes, there is specific not-to-toxic body paint.

I thought you already knew about that.

I donno where you can get it in cans except "the web"
but Ben Franks may have small tubes...

ok so i researched it and we would be able to order it off the internet (of course) it is a lil expensive but hopefully the kapilina grant will go through generously
                                :)
if not i may just end up getting a small group of people together and not offer to everyone

Any word on when the grant will be confirmed?

Mikey and I can go check Hilo Art Supply this week as well. Friends of mine told me they used some metallic paints for the fashion show fund raiser.....I've asked if they'd like to come help our little event.

Give me an email (mexnate@hotmail.com) and we can talk costs as well.

hey liz i love doing this so let's talk. i wonder if somebody has a spray applicator - they are expensive, but that would be great for stencils.

do you think i should include on the application a certain amount? or just let them decide how much we should get?

I'd fill in the ideal amount of peeps (100 or so). I think the cost was about 13 bucks a gallon for latex online...I have no clue how many to get, but we'll need mini rollers, brushes and some cleaning equipment too.

                                        Anything would help the cause.

liquid latex online (non toxic body paint) costs 82.75 per gallon....

where did you find 13$ a gal?

how many people do you think a gallon of paint would paint?

i was thinking one gallon per color red orange yellow green blue purple black

7 gallons would run 579.25 ouch!!!

so let me know what else is out there

get the primaries (red, yellow, blue) one gallon each and paint til yer pau. and listen to lisa above about the crayons. that will cut your cost to around $200.

since body painting is pretty popular thing on the playa - what about posting out there on the burning man tribe to see exactly how much paint is needed - also figure out exactly what you are going to do

                                                  - airbrushing? really groovy - works awesome with stencils - see if someone has an airbrush they can donate for the use and talk to people on tribe that have done this and see how much paint you will need

                                                  - latex? whole other ball of wax (ha) that has a massive clean up issue - and where does all that go when it comes off, plus its really pricey - and do you want to educate as well as paint? it might be more a hassle than its worth

                                                  - crayons - cool, but limited...but combined with paint might be neat

                                                  - regular paint - talk to people on the burning man tribe that have done this before, let their experience guide you instead of poking blind in the night on what you might or might not need

also - a fun thing to do if you really are jonesing for the body decor without the big mess - non-toxic highlighters on skin glow under the blacklight and disappear in the daytime - a great way to decorate without over committing

                                                  - just some thoughts, instead of guessing around!

OOOhhh.....Blacklight Highlighters are an awesome idea...I've seen some cool stuff on the playa and agree we should look into this.
