I am becoming intrigued with this type of massage.
I understand that there is this one lady who is in her 90s now on the big island responsible for teaching the technique.
Do you know of other teachers or places that you could recommend?
Who do you know that is really good in offering Lomilomi also not as a teacher, but as a practitioner?

Re: Lomilomi massage - advice
Fri, November 16, 2007 - 12:04 AMI went to Aunty Margaret's Lomilomi school. She is about 90 years old and is no longer teaching. I got to spend some time with her, but her daugther is now the main teacher. Honestly, I wasn't too impressed. I think it was probably more authenticly heartful when Aunty was teaching... it was her passion and her gift. There are lots of great Lomilomi practitioners on Big I, (I hear that I'm one of them), and I'm sure teachers too. Sorry, I don't know anyone to recommend for a teacher. My suggestion is to find someone who has lots of experience to do an apprentiship with. -

Re: Lomilomi massage - advice
Wed, December 19, 2007 - 11:24 PMhi, her name is auntie margaret machado, her family lives in kona. if you want to learn lomilomi i'd suggest going to pay her your respects, even tho she's not really all here - she's got alzheimer's and has been in a wheelchair for several years. but she brought lomilomi to the world outside hawaii & her life is quite the example of service. even if she's too ill to visit, i'd visit her school. they do a cleanse program there w/ ocean water and hawaiian herbs (auntie handed the cleanse part to a woman named mimi george, & like the sister above said, the massage part is now handled by auntie's daughter) they have an open sauna at the school every friday (i think at 4 pm) -
