Re: Trend of Maximum U.S. General Copyright Term
Fri, October 14, 2005 - 7:17 AM"The 1976 Copyright Act changed the measure of the default copyright term to life of the author plus fifty years. Recent amendments to the Copyright Act expanded the term yet again, letting it run for the life of the author plus seventy years."
I wonder how this applies when a copyright is held by a corporation rather than an individual. As somebody who is more ethically and philisophically concerned, rather than legally/technically concerned with copyright law, my knowlege of the specifics is somewhat scant. Thus, my favorite part of this abstract is this:
"The evidence suggests that federal lawmakers favor expanding the rights of copyright owners over all else--including the public interest." -

Re: Trend of Maximum U.S. General Copyright Term
Fri, October 14, 2005 - 7:46 AMPerhaps the following Wikipedia article will shed some light on your question. Surprise, surprise, surprise -- the extension of copyright protection duration was clearly all about corporate greed.
