Wow, I haven't been on here in forever...please forgive the lapse--it's not easy keeping all our various web presences updated whilst running 'round crazy as I normally do, lol.

Anywho, a few quick Red Moon Tribe updates:

* We have confirmed Read My Hips, the amazing ATS and Tribal Fusion troupe from Chicago, headed by Stephanie Barto, for our third annual Tribal Fusion Workshops and Fusion Bellydance Showcase, scheduled for October 10th-12th, 2008! Whoot! For more info on Read My Hips, go to www.readmyhips.com; workshop and show info will be posted on www.redmoontribe.org in the coming months, so stay tuned!

* We are booked for the First Annual Joplin Renaissance Faire, April 26th-27th, 2008, to be held in Landreth Park, Joplin, from 10am till 6pm both days. We will be performing up to 4 shows a day in the ampitheater, as well as a pub appearance and participating in the Royal Smoker, the 21-and-over feast & frolic from 6-7pm each day. For more faire info, check our website in the coming months and/or go to: www.joplinrenfestival.com

* For those of you in the Springfield area, I will be offering a new set of classes for 2008:
The Scintillating Skills Series
By Zivah

New for 2008! Zivah will be offering a special series of 6 week classes throughout the year that will focus on the skills and specialties that benefit every bellydancer!

From mesmerizing sword techniques to snakelike slow moves that hypnotize, you’ll learn secrets that will ignite your inner fire and give you the irresistible spark that enthralls your audience with every dance!

These courses are designed for all bellydancers, from experienced beginners to advanced, and will include tips, tricks, and new ideas that everyone can use, regardless of dance level or genre.

The first class will be: The Art of Sword Dancing
This six week course will cover the fundamentals of bellydancing with a sword—not only tips and tricks for balancing the prop on your head and various other perches, but how to wow your audience with presentation, mesmerizing technique, and unique choreography. You will learn an original choreo that encompasses slow moves, fast moves, and floorwork along with exciting ideas for bold entrances and exits. Detailed handouts will be given. Due to space requirements for sword balancing, this class will be limited to only 8 students.
Dates & Time: Wednesdays, 7:15pm -8:30pm, February 6th-March 12th
Location: Red Moon Studio (on the North side of Springfield; detailed directions given at registration) Swords will be available for purchase at a deep discount; email zivah@redmoontribe.org for more information and registration details.

Future classes in the series will include: Bollywood Beat Bellydance (Indian Fusion); Turkish (Karsilama) Skirt Fusion; and Smooth, Sleek & Serpentine: Learn to Hypnotize and Mesmerize with Slow, Snake-like Strength.

* Red Moon Tribe is going green! One of our goals for 2008 is to be as environmentally responsible as we can, so we're taking baby steps in that regard. We've switched to reusable cups instead of disposable plastic ones for water in the studio; we're switching to a web hosting service that is run on 100% green energy, we're going to be recycling and re-using as much costuming as possible, and Tribe Retreat will be at a gorgeous, environmentally responsible, sustainably run NW AR retreat center this year. We challenge you to find new ways to be environmentally responsible, as well--every small step counts!

* We're in our 10th month with our email newsletter, Red Moon Rising, and readership is up to nearly 300 subscribers! If you haven't yet seen an issue, check out our website for the archives, and if you like what you see, send me an email (zivah@redmoontribe.org) and I'll get you into our database. The newsletter will be expanding along with our website to include more local dance news and happenings, community events, monthly opinion and educational columns, and links to resources around the 'net. Sign up now so you don't miss a thing--subscriptions are FREE! :)

* And last but not least--our website will be undergoing a major overhaul in the next 4-6 weeks, so look for a snazzy new home-on-the-web for RMT with lots more info, new pix & video, and many, many updates!

Hope you and yours have a joyous, healthy, and abundant New Year!

Blessings,
Zivah
