In a couple of months, I am planning on flying out to the Colorado faire for a weekend. Has anyone attending this faire before? How is it? Large? Lots of entertainment? How does it compare to southern or northern?

Thu, May 10, 2007 - 8:16 PMMy girlfriend currently lives there and I've of course been to the faire. It is a very nice faire with a different atmosphere as opposed to Southern Faire. The vendors and cast are very friendly but may be lacking in some good olde street interaction. The shows are amazing and shouldn't be missed. Be sure to catch Cast in Bronze, it is undescribable. I will be attending again this year as well.

Re: Colorado faire
Fri, May 11, 2007 - 1:26 AMI went to college in Denver and attended this faire religiously for all the years I lived in the area. I miss it terribly. What a wonderful faire! Big site, great atmosphere, enthusiasm, good cast, beautiful pageantry, and they used to have an annual beer-festival there that I never missed. Don't miss it!

Re: Colorado faire
Tue, May 15, 2007 - 3:45 PMI hope you do go, it's fun. My very first faire (22 years ago) was at Blackpoint Forest in Novato; when I attended my first Colo faire it fondly reminded me of that fabulous location in Novato. It's nestled in the woods, with a solid established encampment. It has entertainment and is large. I'm guessing you've already seen their website?
I'm fortunate enough to live a mere few miles from the site now, and I look forward to the opening! I may finally get to work at faire, like I always wanted to in CA, but never had the opportunity to do (like I do now). -

Rita, I keep hearing this from many different sources... May I ask, what is it that kept you from participating?? Personal or 'out of reach" (e.g.; the divide between patron and participant...) Or...??
Thanks. Glad you have found your comfy in at faire!!! -

Re: Colorado faire
Mon, May 21, 2007 - 9:58 AMHi Cindy...I have wanted to work at faire for a long time. When the fair was in Novato, it was a logistics thing - I lived in San Jose, and the idea of driving that every Sat & Sun was daunting. Then, I had a baby, and I was lucky to get there once in a season. So, the reason was then two-fold. Here in Colo, I live so close I could practically walk, and my baby is now 13 and not so needy of his mommy. Now my only drawback is that I am not as skilled as the next person may be in speaking proper, but I'm thinking that can be quickly learned. My riper age takes away many of my insecurities; I am not as concerned about doing things "right" so much as simply doing things because its fun and I want to. I know I'll have much learning to do when I do finally work, but I trust that it'll be fun and I'll find plenty of willing guides! Now, its just a matter of getting the job...

Re: Colorado faire
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 7:47 AMI found the Colorado faire to be a splendid event. It is a permanent site, which always gives an advantage to the feeling of being in another time. Most of it is up hill, though, be aware. It is sort of on a slant. They actually have elephant and camel rides. I like their merchant's parade and wish we could do something like that here in CA but I haven't been able to get anyone to share my sentiments thus far. I did, however, have a slight problem with the costuming. I think we in CA are a bit snobish on this end, though. I just can't abide bare arms and 19th century hair-dos in the Court no less, or a king that looks something like childhood memories of Old King Cole. All in all, though, I think you will enjoy it. Of course I wish, as do we all, we had a permanent site like this here in CA, but the real estate values will ever make this an elusive dream. Have fun, Richard! -

Re: Colorado faire
Wed, August 8, 2007 - 4:17 PMI have someone looking to commission me to make a costume for them for this faire. He is a vendor and the original idea of costume he wanted was very much in the Fantasy realm.
How close to the Irwindale, Calif faire are the costume guidelines? -

Re: Colorado faire
Thu, August 9, 2007 - 6:32 PMToo sum it up pretty much non-existant. Lets just say, I have a friend who worked Southern Faire in the past. She moved to Colorado Springs three years ago and has been working for vendors. She auditioned to be a participant this past year and was going to be doing Meet and Greet. She dresses as a peasant and has been approved bu Frieda every time in her garb. The Entertainment Director there was amazed by her use of BFA, something they don't stress or teach there. Anyways in regards to garb, the director loved her garb and accessories but wanted to know if she were able to color coordinate her entire outfit including the hat. This is a director who insist that every participant has a period storyline for the character that they portray along with explanations on accessories. This is all fine and all but where in the history books on 16th century does it say that all peasants wore color-coordinated outfits? As a worker for a vendor she didn't really have any garb requirements. She wore her regular peasants and her pendragon at during the whole run.
