I like to write stories for my own entertainment and hopefully my future livelihood, but in the one I am working on now has pirates in it.
And I was wondering where to use thees and thous.
I thought I had it right for a while, until I made sure today on the internet and got confused.
so, when you want to say ,
"Why would you want to do that?" but using thee/thou instead of you, which one would you use?

or, if anyone has an easy way to explain it, please share.
thank you very much.

Big Bear has a Victorian faire!

Hey, all! I'm very excited to announce that the next Belles of Bedlam performance is going to be in just a few short days! We've done faires for the Big Bear Valley Renaissance society before, but this year they're excited to present their very first Victorian Faire! This coming Saturday and Sunday, July 5th & 6th, join the Belles, Sportive Tricks, and a wide variety of other exciting shows and entertainments!

Oh, and have I mentioned yet... We're doing a corset show! One third the clothes and five times the fun!

Here is a little more info:

The Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society, Inc. is delighted to announce our first Victorian Festival on July 5th and 6th, 2008, at our permanent site on the north shore of Big Bear Lake!

Hosted in the lovely little town of Fawnskin, the Victorian Festival is a day in Charles Dickens London: a city filled with lively and colorful characters from both literature and history. Come join us for an adventure in this elegant era with hundreds of costumed players in music halls, pubs and dance parties. Explore our winding lanes, finding trinkets and treasures while surrounded by enticing aromas of hearty foods and the joyous sound of music in the air.

Some of the activities will include a Victorian Tea, Tea with the Queen, and readings by Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, and other literary artists of the 19th century. We will have demonstrations of the Gatling gun, cannon, and a battle of the Queen's Royal Army! Entertainment, such as the always exciting (and often titillating) Belles of Bedlam, will also be provided on five stages throughout the day. And, for the younger set, we will have the children's craft & game area.

While not all visitors come in costume, a great many do. The highlight of the event, the Grand Masque Ball under the stars on Saturday night, is a costumed affair, although a non-costumed gallery is available, if you would like to witness the glamorous spectacle.

Oh, and by the by... proceeds go to provide educational funds for the youth of Big Bear Valley. The funds will be used for, but not limited to, scholarships, teacher support funds and educational opportunities. So you're not just having fun, you're helping out the community!

Hope to see you there!

Saturday and Sunday, July 5 & 6, 2008
10am - 6pm

TICKET PRICES

One-day general admission: $10
Upcoming Shakespeare shows (x-posted)

Hi guys -

I'm forwarding a post about the shows I'm about to open in (yeah, that's where I've been lately). Aside from the fact that I'm really proud of how this festival is turning out, it's always good for us to see a Shakespeare production, to get the sound of the language in our ears.

I'm not in the Tempest (but it's a lovely production). I have a singing role in As You Like It, one of Shakespeare's best-loved romantic comedies. Our non-Shakespeare show Beauty and the Beast is really fun as well.

By the way, if you get a group of 10 or more together, you get a group discount - just call or email and ask Mark for the group rate.

&:-)
Lisa

Friends:

The Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival (July 18th through August 9th) is just a few weeks away, with our fantastical 7th Season of family entertainment at an affordable price, and in one of the most beautiful settings in the South Bay.

This season is filled with magic, comedy, and the theme of redemption as we offer William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and "Beauty and the Beast", and "As You Like It."

Our version of "Beauty and the Beast" is an original adaptation of the classic fairytale, originally performed by FTE in 1997. Don't miss it!

You can order tickets by calling 800-838-3006, and asking for the Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival, or go online, and order tickets and season passes with a few clicks at:

www.lgshakes.org

There's also time for mail order by check. Simply send your check and dates of show choices to the address below. Please note our new address as of May 1, 2008!

As a not-for-profit theater company, FTE has been entertaining audiences in Los Gatos and other locations for over 15 years. There are 13 performances:

Beauty and the Beast shows:

Saturday July 19th
Sunday July 27th

Converting from stage to street - advice needed!

Hi there -
This is my first post here this year, and I thought I'd post a little introduction and a question to start things off.

First off, I'm Ayperi, and I'm a bellydancer in Madison, WI. I'm the contact person and manager for the act "Weno Gypsies," which is a Middle Eastern dance, music, history, fire dance, fantasy, and comedy act.

We performed at the Bristol Renaissance Faire (Kenosha, WI) last summer, the Camelot Medeval Festival (WI) in the fall, and the Janesville Renaissance Faire (WI) this spring. We are very happy and excited to be taking our act to Bristol again this year, but this year, rather than doing stage performances, like we have been for the past three faires we've done together, we were asked to do street performances.

Does any one have any advice for how to convert a stage act to the street? Any advice for street performers as to how to keep one's energy up while performing so much?

Thanks!!!
- Ayperi

http://www.renaissancefaire.net/santa-fe-dam.htm

There are a little over 34,000 pictures from this season.

Now I've got about a hundred videos to post, then I'm more or less done for this faire.

Enjoy,

Touring the Tower

A tour group stopped at the Tower of London, and were given the chance to try out some of the ancient armour. Two men - one from Prague and another from Athens took up the opportunity. One donned a slightly damaged suit of plate armor and the other chain-mail, while the rest of the group crowded around. But in the full suits, the onlookers couldn't tell one from the other. "Is that the Czech wearing the plate armour?" asked one tourist. "No," replied another, "The Greek has the broken plate, and the Czech is in the mail."

Roman Rollers

Back in the days of the Roman Empire, the famous Emperor Nero instituted a new game. The players would take those little disks you set your glass on in order to protect the furniture, and see who could get the most distance rolling them across the floor. They were the first roller coasters. Back in those days, the disks were made of iron, and they would bet on whose disk would roll the farthest. They called them ferrous wheels.

The Angry King

Once, long ago, a king summoned all his provincial rulers to his castle. He was in a rather belligerent mood, and wanted to scare them into giving him extra taxes. Unknown to him, they met in secret on the way, and decided that they should agree to pay the extra, but they would at first pretend to refuse, so they could try to bargain down the actual amount extra they would have to pay.

They arrived at the king's castle, and gathered in the audience chamber. The king made his demands, and as agreed, they started to refuse. Unfortunately, they hadn't realized just how belligerent the king's mood was: as soon as they started to refuse, he got angry, and ordered his guards to kill them on the spot.

More than half of them were slain before they even realized what was happening, and the others had to do some very quick groveling to survive. After everything had settled down, those who remained explained to the king their plan, and the king was filled with remorse for his hasty actions.

The moral of the story?
- Don't hatchet your counts before they chicken.

The King's Pizza

One day (just before Christmas, probably), Good King Wenceslas decided that he was fed up with the food at the palace, so he phoned up his local Italian restaurant for a takeaway pizza. "Certainly, your Majesty" says the Manager, "Would you like your usual"? "Yes please," replied the King, "same as always - deep pan, crisp and even"

Happy April Fools Day!

All right folks! This tribe has 323 people in it and not one thread or photo. It's hard to believe that we're halfway through southern faire and not one person has posted a photo, a funny story or their experiences at the faire.

So now I'm asking y'all to post, post, post. The topic is faire. Post pictures. Post notices of events at the faire. Post your experiences, your funny stories ...

Okay?
Get a good picture of me, maybe win a hundred bucks

I take tens of thousands of pictures at the Irwindale Renaissance faire, but probably I get less than a dozen of myself.

So I've decided it's time to get some pictures of me!

Here's the deal: I'm starting a little informal contest. Win a hundred bucks if you send me the best picture of, well, me.

You can take them just about anyway you want.

1-Use a film camera and submit the prints (I'll scan them)2-Use a digital camera and email the originals (or give them to me on a card, CD or whatever),
3-or ask me for my camera for a minute and use it to take the picture(s).

What kind of picture should you take? You can pose me with your group, guild or a person or persons. You can get me up on stage with Oojahm or try to get the GAs to put a sword in my hand. You can get me into a picture just about anyway you want (within reason). Put hats on me or dress me up in a costume (male costumes only please). Or you can take a candid photo or a stealth picture. Whatever works for you.

How will I know who's picture it is?
If you send me your picture(s), just include contact information. If you use my camera (primarily for performers who cannot carry cameras) write your name and contact info on a card and I'll photograph that just before the picture(s). (I'll carry some cards and a pen for the next three weekends to make it easy).

How will the contest be performed?
After the last weekend of faire, I'll post all of the entries on a website with a voting button and post the location. After two weeks, whichever picture has the most votes wins a hundred bucks. If there is a tie, I'll split the difference. If there is more than a two-way tie, I'll figure out how to resolve it. (I am assuming anyone who enters is a responsible person and won't try and vote more than once - anyone so caught will be excluded from the possibility of winning).

How many entries can you have?
As many as you want. But if you take a dozen pictures with the shutter set to "auto", I'll only post one for the contest.

Who can enter?
Anyone who can take a picture.

Final small print
By submitting pictures, you grant me unlimited use of those pictures in any way I wish.

I reserve the right to reject any pictures which are degrading or unflattering.

This is supposed to be fun. If it starts becoming extremely serious or results in lots of drama, I'll cancel the contest.

If less than a dozen people enter, the contest will be canceled without awarding the prize.

If there are any questions, just PM me.

(Gar, since you are the among the best of the best photographers I know, I would respectfully request that you refrain from submitting to the contest to allow someone else to win. However, I would love to receive pictures from you!)

Why do you go to renaissance faire?

Let's get this tribe going again. I'd like to see some discussion on this question.

Why do you go to faire? What do you get out of it?

This question comes about because I was asking a friend if she wanted to go to the faire this year. She said, "why? I went once a few years ago!"

It made me think, why do people go to the renaissance faire over and over again? They must get something out of it. What is it?

I know why I go, but why do you go? And why to you keep going back time after time?

Theft of guild props and trailer ...

Passing this along from a private list.....

On Behalf Of Brittah Sutherland H`elie
Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2008 11:01 AM

St. Gyles trailer, with all of their props has been stolen. Please share this information with anyone in our world you think of.? Maybe someone can catch a 'fire sale' and let the rest of us know, so we can recover at least some of what they've lost.

The sad thing is that they've recently replaced a pavilion or two...Panther Pavilions run about $2,500. They also had some older ones, about 4 total, so that's about $10k worth of props, in addition to everything else...the rugs, ewers, platters, trunks, etc.

The trailer, license plate number 4EA3550, was in Hayward, parked on the curb outside a guildmember' s home. It was a 16' long, by 6' wide by 7' tall, white, no-name cargo trailer. It was stolen some time Sunday night.

nobody mentioned what faire. I'm assuming that it must be Casa or something northish. Please feel free to post this wherever you want.

Clan Iain Abrach MacIain -

It is my sad duty to let you all know that the matron of our guild Joan Wiepert has passed away. She left this world peacefully in her sleep around 9pm on Christmas Eve.

Services will be held for her at the Masonic Temple in Napa at 4pm on Sunday December, 30th. The address for the Masonic Temple is 4125 Solano Avenue, Napa, CA 94558. There will be a potluck reception immediately following so please feel free to bring a food item if you so choose.

EVERYONE that knew Joan is invited to attend and speak if you would like. If you know of anyone that doesn't have access to email please feel free to pass on this information.

Also Ken will be unable to attend these services as he is also currently in the hospital. The family has asked to restrict visitors at this time so he can get well. I will post more information as it becomes available. Messages for Ken can be sent to Tim Jesus at tjconsult@aol.com and will be delivered on a regular basis.

Flowers for the services can be sent to her granddaughter Marisa's home and will be brought to the services.

Renfest Glass Blower News

For those of you who new him-Today I got the pleasure of visiting Parker, and a bigger pleasure of him looking in good spirits for his condition. He- is himself ,as always, even though there isn't much time left.. He told Connie in a quiet but very earnest voice "I try to be nice, and she calls me Ornery!"

Soon hospice will give him a rest from all the needles- but I don't think anyone is too much in a hurry to see him go (grin) he is one in a million!!! He's been a staple of the Southern Ohio Faire for over a decade..

Also for those who are friends of Legacy forge, There has been a death in that festival family

I'll post a photo of him in the album

Feel free to send Cards etc to

The opening show

Sometimes a Renaissance faire fills the time before the opening of the gates by putting on an opening show. Besides filling otherwise dull waiting time, these little skits serve the purpose, if they are done correctly, of introducing the main characters of the faire and setting the stage for the day's events.

The Call 'o faire show, as it was called, at Southern was a good example of an opening show. The rather complex (to a casual visitor) storyline of the faire was introduced, and the interplay of the various characters was more or less explained. By attending this show, a patron could be better oriented and have more fun.

A huge benefit of putting on a well-planned opening show is it gives patrons a reason to show up at the start of the day, giving them more time to shop, see the shows and play at the faire. This is significant, as many patrons normally time their expeditions to the faire for lunch time and the afternoon. Getting people there earlier, especially on Sundays, makes for a more fulfilling, not to mention more profitable faire.

Smaller faires may not have an opening show at all, or they may just get a couple of jugglers or actors out front to entertain the guests until the gates open.

There really isn't any reason why a faire of any size cannot put on a quality opening show, and doing so makes for a far more memorable event.

What are the opinions of others about these shows? Which ones come to mind as being the best? What is needed in an opening show to make it useful, fun and entertaining? What would be the reasons NOT to put on an opening show?

A Little help and Suggestion

I anyone has a place to rent or know of somewhere I can move, I'd really appreciate the help. I need to move ASAP!
I've just gotten a new job and am looking to be within 35 miles of the Brea Area. Why I'm asking for help is my ex-girlfriend and roommate and I are thru with each other, she's selling her place to move back to Colorado.
Unfortunately my credit score is ANYTHING but good. (yeah...past mistakes and still paying for it.) and due to the nature of my work, I probably can't afford anything above 500 a month until the end of the year. If anyone needs a roommate or has a room to spare, or can offer any suggestions, please let me know. I work a 6 day week a lot of times at crazy hours. I can cook (quite well I'm told), clean and very quiet, most of time you won't even know I'm around.
So if anyone has suggestions and ideas, e-mail me or send me a message.

Yep! According to my insurance claims adjuster, the cost of fixing the truck far exceeds the trucks value. So as far as they're concerned, it's a total loss. I either have to eat it on what they offer me which is a pitance or I can keep the truck and they'll settle for what it would cost for junk salvage. Neither options are any better. I'm hoping to get another used vehicle, but with me current job and the amount of driving I do and the salary I make plus really lousy credit scores, there's no way in hell I could afford even a half decent vehicle.
I did find cars on Craigslist and myspace classified which I will check out, but will have to fork out at least 5K which I don't have, so I'm seeking donations of $1-2 to help towards picking up another P.O.S. so I can get to work and not loose my job, which I love very much. Donations can be made to my paypal account at siredmund.carey@gmail.com through PAYPAL. Any help will be deeply appreciated and you'll have my gratitude for life.

When you play at the faire, what do you do?

I've been to most of the days of Southern faire this year, and I've found it very interesting to watch what people are doing. For example, I see a few couples every single day of the faire. As far as I can tell, they don't do anything. They sit, walk, drink and eat and that's it. On the other hand, I wander all over the faire, play games, watch shows, eat the food, take a zillion pictures and so on.

When you are playing at the faire (not working) what do you do? Do you shop? Watch shows? If so, are there particular shows you see every time you attend? Play games? Do you have a plan when you walk in or do you just randomly go from place to place? Do you do something different if you go with your significant other, children or friends?

You definitely filled a place that needed filling when you began photographing faire to the extent that you do. I love looking at your pictures and so do many of my friends.

I also commend you on your quickness with posting the pictures... being a photographer myself, I understand the amount of time it takes to do that - and I am truly impressed!!!

Thank you for everything, Richard - and I look forward to a great final two weekends :)

NEED HELP FOR A GIG @ FAIRE

Hey everyone, I'm trying to setup a gig on the last weekend (probably Saturday) of closing weekend.
I need 2 people who has access to monks robes and who willing to play along with me as part
of my support cast. The gig will probably last no more than 5-6 minutes. It will be a quite a laugh, but
I need to find 2 people who's willing to play. If you want to be "IN" on this, e-mail me and let me know.
You MUST have access to a monk's garb as I don't want last minute surprises. Commitment to
this gig also means absolute secrecy. I don't want the gig to leak before I get a chance to play it out.
If if you want to play, please let me know.
Thanks.

Does anyone have the lyrics to the song "The Wizard" by the group Siren Song. I believe Linda Underhill was a member. The beginning of the song goes something like this.

"Why don't you come along and dance with me, I can show you things that you've never seen, I can be the tallest tree, I can be much laughter"

Any help I could get would be great!

I've been to many faires, and some of them are incredible, while others seem to be lacking something. Something that, in my opinion, separates a good faire from a bad faire is street entertainment. When I walk into Northern or Southern faire, I get an immediate feel that things are happening. The faires are full of life and verve (cool word, eh?) and you can see this energy everywhere -- even before you walk into the faire itself.

I remember this last year at southern, watching DanWill play Shakespeare. He was everywhere, entertaining everyone all of the time. There was so much energy around him that just his presence in a place brought the patrons back to life, so to speak.

What separates a good street gig from a bad one? Why is street entertainment so important (or is it?) What are some good gigs? Some bad ones? Some especially memoriable (good or bad) ones?

Let's not get into bad-mouthing any particular persons, groups or faires but rather focus on the performances.

I'm sure someone has posted this elsewhere, but a friend just sent it to me and I thought it was amusing. I'm sure you all can add to this list!

17 The castle and village are made entirely of Legos.

16 Turkey leg bears striking resemblance to Cocker Spaniel leg.

15 Festival activities include "Ye Olde Wet T-Shirt Contest."

14 Eight minute drum solo in the middle of "Greensleeves."

13 "Belly up to the bar, me lad, for some grilled mahi-mahi and fresh
California Roll!"

12 Ye Old Glassblower makes nothing but crack pipes.

11 The meade is served in a coconut shell with a Fizzy straw.

10 Everyone seems to have attended the Kevin Costner School of British
Accents.

8 You get charged 5 bucks to take a leak behind Ye Olde Hedge.

7 Guillotine exhibit closed due to pending litigation.

6 Friar Tuck's pager keeps going off.

5 Weaponsmith only sells handguns.

4 Disgusting Ogre is merely an unshaved Marlon Brando.

www.labyrinthmasquerade.com

To Celebrate our tenth annual Masquerade Ball, we're offering
Two Enchanting Nights within the Royal Court at the historic Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre
On the Hollywood Walk of Fame - 6126 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, CA

Costumes or Masks are Mandatory!
Imaginative costumes are highly recommended

ABOUT: The Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade is a
fantasy event of unique character and inspiration. Costumes or formal wear and mask are required to enter the event. Costumes range from faeries and goblins to beautiful Victorian garb, elaborate armors, and period attire along with a host of fantasy creatures and characters. We encourage imagination and diverse interaction. Each year, Sypher Art Studios hosts the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade to pay homage to our inspirations and submerge our patrons in a special night of art, music, dance and enchantment.

A GLIMPSE WITHIN: The Masquerade:
Eyes wander across sculpted displays and fantastic imagery in the royal halls. Lords and ladies dance under fey enchantment while reality fades into the night. Imagination gains precious breath as winged faeries and darkened wanderers step through the crowds, joining the revels. We offer a unique chance to lose yourself within the ambiance of the Dreaming Court as the outside world fades into a surrealistic dream.

Hello Faire Friends,

Nell Hadley passed on last night/early morn (1-25-2007) at 2 am. She was the veggie cook for St. Cuthberts Guild North for over 10 years.

She was with her daughter, son and grandchildren. She had been battling cancer for the past four years and is now at peace.

I want you to know that she will be greatly missed. I like to think that she's cooking for all the angels now.

Thanks,

I was unable to make the trip to Casa on October 7th, which was the day of the infamous "Man Lunch". I was very sad. My friend John Tripp came to the rescue! I sent him an SD card, and he got almost 400 pictures of the lunch and a few other things.

Thanks John! Excellent pictures.
Enjoy!

I went to Exotic Blend last night for the first time. It was a hugely long drive from Hollywood, but it was easily worth fighting the traffic. The dancers were all incredible! I had a wonderful time and I got some great pictures. I'm still chipping off the icicles though! It was cold!

We are almost at the end of 2006. For me, there are two more faires (neither of them renaissance) and then this year is over. This weekend will be Dickens (if it doesn't rain) and Tribal fusion.

So what faires are you all planning on attending in 2007? Why or why not? (Let's not flame any faire or person please). will you be participating or will you be a patron? Are you going to try any new faires this year?

Everyone is entitled to try and make money. I have nothing against anyone making an honest living. However, I've noticed a huge uptake in listings advertising various things, all very useful, throughout the tribes which I monitor. Sometimes these advertisements are more-or-less on-topic and sometimes they have nothing to do with the tribe by any stretch of the imagination.

On this tribe, I will no longer allow advertising of any products or services, whether on-topic or not. They will simply be deleted without comment.

It is acceptable to post notices about events, but please use the Events tab. The events must be, without too much of a stretch, on-topic.

Requests can also be posted as long as they are under the requests tab.

Renaissance Faire Resolutions

We're getting new the New Year and it's time for New Year Resolutions. Do you have any resolutions related to faires for 2007?

Personally, I want to try and attend ALL of the California faires this year (which means I have to miss at least one day of southern and one of Northern as there is some overlap). I'd also like to visit Bristol again (it's a nice faire) and a couple other out-of-state faires.

Picture taking at faires is my hobby and passion, and in 2007 I want to take an insane number of pictures. In 2006 I took almost 50,000 faire pictures. In 2007 I want to top 75,000. For southern, I'd like to get 30,000, and for northern 20,000. I want to focus more on getting shots of people playing characters, and not so much on shows and such. By the way, my site has about 70,000 pictures on it now, so this means I'd double it.

I'd like to include a few album sets of photos and perhaps some interviews of "behind the scenes" activities at faires. With a focus on what does it take to actually put on a faire. Anyone who can help with that let me know.

My main goal, however, is to have as much fun as possible and to enjoy the faires. I've made lots of friends and I want to enhance those friendships and form new ones.

I know it might seem strange to many that I am so much into faires, but it helps me remain happy in this bizzare world in which we live.

Some suggestions for ethical gift giving and supporting something positive.

Hello all,

At this time of year it is often tough to find what you want or feel good about giving. Many of us prefer to give gifts that do some good in the world and I would like to offer a suggestion.

The link and search box below will place orders through amazon.com and will let you find most things that you are interested in, including products and sponsorships directly in support of The Realms of Legend, such as our sponsor a tree program.

The Realms of Legend is the project to build a historical and environmental education facility in the style of a themed entertainment venue which will showcase concepts for simpler living, eco friendly living and solutions for many of the problems our society faces in the coming year, all in a format of fun and engaging experiences.

Ordering via the search box at the link below will give the project a small commission and help us pursue the goal of educating a large number of people about the options we have for building a more healthy and sustainable future for all.

If you are looking for a gift that you can be sure will get there on time and allow the recipient to choose what suits them best you might consider one of the gift certificates. The E-Card form is instant and you don't have to waste paper or wait for postal services or you can choose a more traditional hard copy version.

So if you are considering giving some form of gifts during the holiday season or even in the future, please consider using the search box below. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

I hope you all have a very fulfilling holiday season.

http://www.geocities.com/crusader_magnus/index.html?1166117680670

By the way, I have placed what I think are some good values in PC games and DVD's in the SciFi, Fantasy and Horror Genre into my wish list at the following link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2L01JJK4SDQ57/
Cheers!

Mine? Spending the day with a lady named Renie at Northern, and spending several days at several faires with Amanda and Andrea. Watching Tribal Cafe with Jannah and friends (and getting gently told we were "too roudy" for the front row). Riding on the swing and the horses with the Queen at Northern. Swinging with the Yeobabes. Being invited to take pictures of the "Man Lunch" at southern. I could go on and on.

Most of all, making over a hundred new friends, all of them excellent people.

The faire and flirting

I admit it, I am a flirt, and I've found that Renaissance Faire is the absolutely perfect environment for one such as I.

But wait, what is flirting anyway? I would define it as playfulness between a man and a woman. I am speaking of the art of play. That's what flirting is to me. When and if it becomes more serious than that, it stops being flirting and becomes something else (not necessarily good or bad, just different).

I've found it's safe to flirt at the faire, as long as you remain within unspoken but well understood boundaries. It has to be given and received in the spirit of play.

I'd like to get some opinions, observations and examples of the art of flirting at the faire. Let's explore some questions, from both the male and female point of view (all of these should be related to the Renaissance Faire):

- What is your definition of flirting?
- When is it okay and when is it not okay?
- What are some examples of flirting which you received that you enjoyed?
- Give some instances when you initiated the flirt
- Got any funny stories about flirting?
- Do you enjoy being flirted with? Why or why not?
- How does a woman flirt with a man without it being misconstrued as some other intention?
- Same question for a man.
- How do you make it know when it's not welcome? or when it has crossed the line?

I'm sure you can add other questions to the list. Let's keep this topic clean, it's about flirting.

Obnoxious behavior

As I've been going to faires, I've found tht 99% of the patrons and participants alike are exceptionally nice people. Yes, the occasional person who has "too much to drink" and gets a little out of hand does happen, but it generally seems to be well handled. Usually, when what I've witnessed here is a quick word to the patron (or his friend or spouse) and the problem stops.

But what about truly obnoxious behavior? The half dozen drunks? Gropers? Drug use? Theft?

What have kinds of things have you all witnessed or had happen to you? What is done about it? How much security is too much? I've noticed highly visible police officers at many faires -- is this useful? Does it hurt or help attendance? How aggressive should security be? When is a patron asked to leave or even "politely removed"?

This could be an interesting topic - let's not get into flame wars over it.

Queen's Dress Stolen. (x-post from NorcalRenFaireFolk.net)

This is important enough to be posted everywhere you can think of.

Help! My San Francisco garage was ransacked Saturday night, November 18. Thieves stole the beautiful Queen's dress I've worn at Folsom Faire, The Revels and at Valhalla; to be more precise, they took the bodice, sleeves and overskirt.

Designed and made by Liz Martin, this unique purple (okay, aubergine) velvet confection—beaded and pearled to within an inch of its life by the fabulous women of St. Matthews Guild—weighs at least 30 pounds.

http://www.folsomfaire.com/StMPhotos/PhotosF05Q1.htm

The SFPD is looking for it. The officers who took the report say it's likely to turn up since it's so unusual; one of the officers is a Faire fan and even asked about Dickens.

As you shop Bay Area costume and thrift shops for your pleasure this season, please keep an eye out for the dress. It's tough to miss. (Yes, we've had security issues before. I was taking the dress up to my Dad's for safekeeping at Thanksgiving. Sigh.)

Generous reward offered. Please spread the word.

Thanks so much.
Deborah Doyle (cell: 415-269-0540)

Please spread the word far and wide. And be on the look out at swap meets etc.
