Last year was my introduction into Mongering at WRFF. It was a great experience and its my chosen role. I wore three or four outfits in wool and or linen. A hodge podge of Itlalian/Flemish/English hybrids. Tie on sleeves in linen and a shift of white linen and one of rough vintage silk noil. That is what I had made and that is what I wore. I didn't plan on making anything new this year, but a large drop in weight and the possibility of working another faire this season has me thinking new duds.
I would like to make strictly what an English Monger might wear and need guidance please. I already have white linen coifs, straw hats and a collection of aprons, and stockings. I need the gown to lace up the front.
Most paintings I have seen are of Flemish, German, or Italian working women. Mongers are the lowliest of the low. I have on hand 6 yards each of hunter green and greyish/blackish suit weight wool. Any suggestions?

Re: ANY NEW IDEAS FOR MONGER WEAR?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 11:00 AMI just ordered the Elizabethan 16th century Common Woman pattern from www.reconstructinghistory.com
No one jumped into this topic so I decided to use the Hunter Green wool and a Mustard yellow linen kirtle I already have. This will be my first try at a Reconstructing History pattern. -

Re: ANY NEW IDEAS FOR MONGER WEAR?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 7:36 PMTudor Tailor does have lots of ideas. What drew me into buying the Reconstructing History Common Woman Pattern, were all the goodies in multiple sizes in one package. Smock, Petticote, kirtle, sleeves, partlet, apron, stomacher, and cap. I will get a lot of mileage out of it I hope. My old patterns have been used multiple times and I wanted to try making something a little different and new. -
