a news flash from your favorite outdoor cinema-philes with the awkward acronym…

It’s all coming together folks… can you feel the excitement in the air? One more week and we’re back on the playa, errr, woods, back in the woods yes yes…

First we’d like to thank all the renegade filmmakers out there that took the time to send us a copy of their work. It was heartening to receive such an enthusiastic response to our call for submissions and we enjoyed the process of reviewing them all, one by one. We’ll be showing a selection of these original shorts along with the usual random bits and bobs throughout the weekend - AND we’ve got some funky monkey live acts joining us this year, not the least of which includes Helios Jive (heliosjive.com) and Scott Beibin of Lost Film Fest (lostfilmfest.org)

… so come visit us during the wee hours of the night when your feet are sore from walking, but your eyes and ears are still hungry for more and plant that ass on the grassy knoll in front of the Workshop Stage (between the Cabbage & Rutabaga patches) and (cue old timey song) let- us-entertain-yoooooouuuuuuuuuuu……

also help us spread the word to the lil ones that Kid’s Hour starts at 8pm Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Bring your inner child (or a real one!) and your favorite blankie just after sunset for classics such as the Muppet Movie, the Rats of NIMH and cool, neat-o, eye-poppin’ shows like Planet Earth in Hi-Def.

See you out there!!! can’t wait!!!!!

I have to say Scott B from The Lost Film Fest is one of the nuttiest guys around. We met at The Red Loft years ago when he did a show there. He was taking his film festival around America in a bag. No car. No bed. Just Scott.

It will be sweet to see him again.

Come see The Lost Film Festival. Who needs a "Woogie" anyway? Does anyone even know what a woogie tastes like?

We missed it as well. Is there any way we can see the films?

A bunch of us came down Sat/Sun AM to see Helios and watch movies, but there seemed to be alot of technical issues.
      Were we mistaken?
I know that I never saw any of the films I submitted, which was sort of a disappointment.
Helios Jive kicked it out of the park though.

You guys gave me one of my best LIB 2008 moments.

I used to have an irregularly-observed tradition of seeing a horror movie of a weekend evening, usually Saturday night. This goes back to my misspent youth in actual drive-ins and a boyhood idling in front of the classic horror flicks run at midnight on TV stations across the South and Midwest. I saw hundreds of the things and delight in them yet.

Well, I just happened to wander into your little dell with the disco ball on Saturday night and what was playing but THE SECRET OF NIMH and whose voice was on the soundtrack at that moment but John Carradine, who was in like seemingly half the old fruitbat monster movies made from the early talkies to his death in the late 1980s and whom I dug immoderately as a kid. Thanks to you guys, I got to reconnect with all that for a few moments in a remote, unlikely and gorgeous context. Bravo and thank you.

That kind of experience is to me what Burning Man is all about and maybe what the mystics of our tribe mean when they talk of "playa magic."

        Terry

you are not mistaken. we did have all sorts of technical issues and were only able to screen about a third of submissions that we received before we ran out of time - which was disappointing to us as well (me especially). I personally take the blame for not preparing better. Last minute submissions, work, and a personal emergency just before LIB prevented me from having enough time to prepare a proper playlist and to work out the kinks involved with the different formats and applications needed to play them seamlessly.

my sincere apologies to everyone whose clips did not get screen time at LIB. Terry, you shot some beautiful stuff of the artists in our community and I'd still love to play them at a future Renegade Screening, along with the rest that didn't get shown.

        Irene
