My name is Ayperi and I'm brand new to this tribe. This summer my act and I are going to leave the stage and move into the streets of Renaissance faires.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to take a stage act and move it into the street? What are some tried and true street performance techniques you can share?

Thanks!

Still dwelling on the information I absorbed last weekend at symposium, I was thinking about characters I've seen in video or read about who have their goals which for one reason or another they are incapable of achieving (thanks, Matt, for discussing this in your workshop).

As I was mulling over this on the drive home from work, was wondering what specific instances I could think of that would make that general feature more concrete in my understanding, I happened to be listening to a Harry Potter CD, and latched immediately onto Filtch the caretaker whose goal is to keep the students subdued and the Hogwarts castle clean (and Peeves banned), but unerringly fails. And it's great that his character, who is a little creepy and scary, gains a comic element thereby.

'Course, Filtch isn't exactly period, so I thought I would reach out to fellow tribesters, and ask you all: do you incorporate this unattainable goal feature in your character, and if so, how?

The Guild (Queen's Court) prefers all their non-household charactes to be ACTUAL PEOPLE from history... I'm going to be playing a member of the gentry, James Croft -- he's kinda cool. His father was imprisoned with Queen Elizabeth back when she was a young woman... he was later knighted by King James and has ties to both the Earl of Darby and Baron Mountjoy.

Next step ... putting together an outfit and getting more familiar with my character's history & family.

I know that I can do this character for a while... but there would just come a point in the day when I'd just have to break character and stare out at the world and say, "Dammit - I need to see some tits or something!!" 'cuz I just can't be THAT flaming gay all day.
