Historical question...
couple weeks back I was gaming in the streets (as I am often doing). Now, while I have my own bag of coin (because as a knighted ploughboy with a title, so I was given coin (yeah yeah yeah.. lets not go into THAT) My opponent had a bag of hand made nails. Would they have ever been used as "Currency" for wages... sure they have value, but back then...how MUCH value? would it have been worth the equivalent of coin and if so which coin? just curious.

No.
The english were poor during the period: www.bbc.co.uk/history/bri...rty_01.shtml
but this was not a barter society any longer. If your going to gamble, use coins. People had jobs and or occupations and got paid for their labor SHOW IT! The coins of the realm are Gold and Silver yes, even the lowly pence is made of silver. All good English folk should know their monetary denominations and use it in every day conversation.
Nails......BLAH! -

Sorry Pax we are still a “barter society”.
If I have a really good Ram I'll trade him for a few ewes. No coin, even to this day.
The BBC tends to speak about urban stuff when most of the people didn't live there.
That's where there money comes from. -

If you have a really good ram what you will do is let him tup a few ewes then, your repaid your stud fees during foaling season with whatever price of livestock you've worked out with your fellow farmer to stregthen his stocks bloodline.
If your gambling then you use coin.
