Hello-
I'm a graduate student doing some research on themed environments, living history displays and historical reenacting. Specifically, I'm interested in the issue of historical accuracy and authenticity at Renaissance Faires. I would very, very much appreciate it if you would take a minute or two to answer a survey; I'm trying to supplement on-site interviews conducted at King Richard's Faire in Massachusetts with the various perspectives of Ren Faire enthusiasts from across the country. You're clearly all passionate about and invested in this topic, and I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. If you're interested (have I begged enough? Because I'm certainly not above groveling...) please email me and I'll send the survey to you posthaste.
Thank you in advance,
Emily

This message is making the rounds. I first saw it forwarded from someone on LJ, they were forwarding it from another list. -

Re: Ren Faire research help?
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 10:18 AMI checked her out as well before taking the survey (having been on the sidelines of a recent survey debacle online, I wanted to get some information before playing along). It appears that she is legit, an Art History PhD student at Brown University. The survey can remain anonymous if you choose not to include your ‘handle’ or name in the response. I personally responded via the Tribe inbox, but I believe she will send her e-mail if you would prefer that option. There is also the option to withdraw your answers (up to the date of her turning in this paper of course) if you so choose at a later point in time. -

Re: Ren Faire research help?
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 3:58 PMI'd suggested she get in touch with RenFaire History Snooples, and Diddle did the diligence before letting her in. Thanks for that, D. I never even thought it could be a scam (it's such an unusual request). My bad.

Fri, October 30, 2009 - 6:17 PMI didn't mean to sound the alarmist, just being cautious. Thanks for your responses, and my apologies, Ry. *curtsy* :) -

Re: Ren Faire research help?
Sat, October 31, 2009 - 8:05 AMThe question are rather innocuous. And yes there is no requirement for personal info. She does ask, as an option, name (or handle) age & occupation. Probably for statistical purposes.
Her letter was very nice and pleasant.

I'm very innocuous; I promise. At the very worst I'll ask you to answer a few questions.
Thank you to everyone who has responded. Your answers have been extremely thoughtful and very thought provoking.
