How do you define "Theme Character"? The two big Cali shows may be the only ones that use the term in the manner you mean it. Let's define it for everyone.

At RPF and its spinoffs or close imitators, most of the entertainment is organized into independently operated troupes. A few very focal roles are retained by the Entertainment Department and are used as a sort of "public face" for the event. Among these are usually the Monarch, the town Mayor, Sir Francis Drake, a representative of the celebration such as a "Master/Mistress of the Revels, one or more of the Queen's favorites, etc.

Mr. Wagstaff is asking if that character should be among those.

Redefinition of querie Lord Leicester (sp?):

First you are correct in the def. of the words 'theme character' and I now renounce the use of the term in this particular line of questioning. I should more accurately asked:

"What do you think of Martin Forbisher as a portrayed character in some guild, perhaps a noble's guild? Or whereever else he might be appropriately placed. Not for a particular faire but any faire. Is he worthy of portrayal? I suspect so....

We used to have one in St. George. Fascinating guy. Serious mariner and his story is thoroughly intertwined with Drake, Hawkins and all those piratical guys. To answer your basic question, HELL yes!

I wonder if the Gentleman Adventurers at RPF have him. He's their type.

Played by Steven Leon, of the GA's I believe. I only know because he came up to visit, was a fabulous guest player for us and because I am generally in awe of his hat collection...

Yes, Steve does a great job playing Frobisher and knows a great deal about him.

Absolutely! Frobisher is a very colorful character. He was captured, tried and convicted as a pirate but was taken in hand by Lord Burghley and converted (in exchange for his life) into a pirate hunter as well as a major explorer. Steve Leon did a fabulous and educated job of portraying him at Southern this year as a "theme character" in the Queen's Show. And besides Frobisher is a really neat name.
