I was just looking at the list of activities for the French Festival here in Santa Barbara on July 11 / 12,
and couldn't resist posting this partial list of participants:
•The French King Francois and Queen Eleanore de Hapsburg, circa 1530
•West African Drum and Dance: From the Congo and Ivory Coast
•UCSB Middle East Ensemble: Exotic music from the Francophone Middle East, plus bellydance.
•The Society for Creative Anachronism (Sunday all day)
•Napoleon: Meet the Emperor in Person
•Marie Antoinette
•Asterix
•Foxtails Brigade with Laura Weinbach: Experimental/World/Folk Music
The Guilde of Sainte Marie will be representing Francois & his court, it should be interesting to see them coexist with the other attractions. The website is www.frenchfestival.com, if any one wants to see the full range of attractions.

Wed, June 24, 2009 - 9:28 PMBack when the Santa Barbara Faire had a Queen, it was a tradition for St. Elizabeth's to come to town the weekend before Faire for a costumed picnic in a downtown park. After the picnic, one of the local Faire folk changed into a red leotard with a foxtail, and the Court had a fox hunt down State Street, handing out flyers as they went. No scissors were involved, but I suppose it could be adapted...

Thu, July 16, 2009 - 9:01 PMAs one of Her Majesty's loyalle houndes for the last 3 years, the best part was the year that the Fox took cover in Victoria's Secret, and it was our bounden duty to go in and search the premises..fortunately the staff were not strict about the mundane trespassing laws, among their many other charms, of course.

Wed, July 15, 2009 - 12:31 PMUnfortunately, Sainte Marie pulled out on short notice, citing the economic conditions, the Emperor Napoleon was a cardboard cutout, I didn't see Marie Antoinette or Asterix, but the Foxtail Brigade played good music and didn't wear tails, and any event with 4 different Can-Can troupes performing is a plus..
