Sun, March 9, 2008 - 11:54 AMRoger that, Ryan-O. Please do!
Sorry I've been out of communication this week. Was on planet surface gathering specimens (sea shells).
We are confirmed to have our next Yuri's Night planning meeting at the main venue itself, Bliss Nightclub on 4th St. on Saturday, March 15th at 7:30 PM. This will work out great as if you are also planning to attend the Shiva Vista fundraiser there the same night, you're good to go. Just don't forget your admission/donation and bunny ears! -

Re: here's the inital press, hasn't been sent out yet...
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 7:45 AMThanks, Jess. That's a well-penned piece. A couple of corrections, if you please:
Robotronia's art installation is "Jackbot" not "Jackbox"
It's important to change "official" to "un-official" as this is not a Burning Man sanctioned event.
You might want to grab some of the verbage from the website as to who Yuri Gagarin is and the fact that this event is celebrated all over the world. More at the international website at www.yurisnight.net
Killbuck's e-mail is 4doobers@pyramid.net.
Thanks! -

Yuri's Night, Second Annual Reno Compression
(Reno, NV) The Reno Burning Man Community is proud to present Yuri's Night, Reno's second un-offical compression party. It will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2007 beginning at 9pm. The party will be taking place at Bliss Nightclub (located at 535 East Fourth Street, Reno) and at the Studio on 4th (located at 432 East Fourth Street, Reno). "It just amazes me as to how much the Reno Burning Man Community has come together over the last couple of years to be able to put on events of this magnitude."
"Celebrating Yuri Gagarin and the Space Shuttle 'Let's Go!'
These were the words spoken by Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin as he embarked on the historic first manned space flight on 12 April 1961. Twenty years later on 12 April 1981, the US launched the first space shuttle flight. We think that's something worth celebrating – so we do! Every year on April 12th Yuri's Night is celebrated all around the world – last year there were over 90 events or parties held in over 30 countries worldwide - and this year looks set to be even bigger. The range of events is as diverse as the people who hold them – even the residents of the International Space Station have been known to join in the fun!
Whether in someone’s living room, a swinging nightclub or a world-class science museum, Yuri’s Night events all have one thing in common - people who are excited about space exploration and who want to join together to celebrate it." Yuri's Night Official Website, www.yurisnight.net/2008/about/about.php.
This event will include mutant theme camps, dancing, a "Deep Space Chill," fire performances by Controlled Burn, "not-quite-ready-for-the-playa" art installations, visuals by Robotronia, and the "Fembots" by Reno Burlesque. Re: Revised Press
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 8:12 PMYes, looks great (as usual :-) !
Two small things:
1)
Jess wrote:
>>>The Reno Burning Man Community is proud to present Yuri's Night, Reno's second un-offical compression party.<<<
I'm sort of thinking out loud here at the above sentence....Maybe I have missed something, like maybe there has been some kind of permission received via the Regional Contact(s), but to use "Burning Man" is at the same time going through roughly the same process (via the Regional Contacts) of seeking and getting permission from the Burning Man Organization to also perhaps use "Recompression" or the )'(.
"Reno Compression" however is another matter, like last year, and what I have seen and heard thusfar from you Monsieur Jelly in various announcements...
For example, we were able to use "Reno (Regional) Burning Man Community for the Reno Decompose donations, but permission had to be sought and received...
So, I would think getting permission to borrow "Burning Man" would just as well probably also get that "Recompression" permission, aside from "official" or "unofficial....?"
2) Please include some kind of mention of "Space or other playawear very much encouraged!!!" -
-
Re: Revised Press
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 8:25 PMgotchya, Nathan. I wasn't sure about the "Reno Burning Man Community" and posted the release here, partly because I knew you would respond to that exact matter. No, I have not sought permission from BM regarding this matter. In the past we have used "Playa" to replace "Burning Man" and can do just that here.
Then it says "The Reno community is proud to present Yuri's Night: Reno's second un-official pre-playa compression (not necessarily necessary here) party."
or
"The Reno Playa Community is proud to present Yuri's Night: Reno's Second un-offical compression party."
For the record, I do not think BMORG has a trademark on the word "compression," but I could be wrong.
(As usual) Nathan, your input is greatly appreciated!
Also note the press has been revised from "Everyone is invited to attend..." to "Everyone (21 and over) is invited to attend..."
Anything else?
Killbuck is looking over it now and we hope to hit the masses this Friday. I will post a final copy for all of you to copy, paste, and harass anyone you know with it!
woop woop!!!!! -

If I may elaborate a little more here and there:
1) Maybe some things have changed in a few months (but I really doubt it), but I'm pretty sure also that there is no trademark on "Compression." Moreover, as for example with "Reno...Compression," it is not similar enough I think to be construed by anyone as a Burning Man Recompression/Decompression party.
It also helps that the RC team in toto or in part is however involved, which makes this event...perhaps on a direct track toward a spot in Jack Rabbit Speaks...
2) Just asking, why refer to it as "unofficial" -- and how does this relate to us "*%*%()^oing, WE'RE TAKING OVER," mutinyin'....IN SPACE! ?
3) I feel it is safe to say that some more particular mention of this being a regional event would be perhaps more appreciated and appreciable to our fellow Genoans, Gerlachians, Fallonians, Fernlyains, Verdians, San Franciscans, Tahoans, Martians, Venusians, and of course the Botsians." Therefore, what about mention of this being a "Reno - Regional...." in place of "Reno....?"
4) I too like "playa" this and "playa" that in there !
5) Some mention of "Space or Playaware very much encouraged !" ?
Thanks for listening !
