Nevada is a wonderful state, full of diverse and widely varying climates and ecosystems. It may look like a barren, scrub-filled waste, but get a little closer to the ground, and you'll see there's much more to it than is immediately apparent. Pinion pine and juniper forests fill the high canyons, sage and rabbit brush gather as much water as they can, wherever they can. Wild horses, remnants of America's colonial and expansionist past, roam the land, which is cared for by the well meaning but bureaucratic BLM. Antelope and mule deer run free among the mountains and sage. Mankind has its place out here too, in ranch-land and mining claim, and the little towns, remnants of the old West that was, still holding onto their little pieces of the Great Basin. From the flat, lifeless, alien Black Rock playa, to Wheeler Peak, which holds the oldest known living things on the planet, the Bristlecone pines, to Lehman Caves carved from limestone over millions of years, the Ichthyosaur fossils of Great Basin National Park, this state is full of history, pre and post colonial. Its only fitting, then, that we should bring one of the oldest rituals, reupdated of course, to this vast, wide open land!

In more modern times, Nevada was quite the hot-bed of political attention. Famous, of course, for more than 1,000 nuclear explosions above ground, during the 1950s. Famous as well, for another product of the Cold War paranoia, Area 51. No secret any more, though, you do have to have special (And I mean SPECIAL) clearance to even get within sight of the place. There are signs, warning, that if you continue on, the guards are authorized to use deadly force to prevent your incursion. And lately, the source of controversy when Bush gave the go-ahead to stash nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, supposedly an isolated and remote place, the truth, though, is that the 'local' water table of Yucca Mountain sits atop a much larger aquifer. The only thing keeping the contaminated (or potentially contaminated) water from poisoning most of the Southwestern US is a shaky, thin fault. If that were to break, then, well, Vegas and LA wouldn't be drawing quite so many visitors, for one...

Reno is enjoying the crest of a wave of interest in electronic music, more parties are being thrown of all genres, 2 clubs have regular and well done nights, promotion is professional, people are friendly, smiles abound! So, its time to strike while the iron is hot, and have our own little shindig in the desert. Reno has one thing missing: PSYTRANCE!! So, that's what I, with the help of all the rest involved, are hoping to solve! We're planning a Nuclear Fishin' trip, out to the riverbank of the psyche, dropping in the lures of curiosity, hoping to pull out a big lunker of an experience!

A good variety of styles will be represented, no boredom allowed here! We'll start out in a more full-on vibe, cranking up the intensity at midnight, unfurling all the sails, cranking all the motors, til the morning, and the lighter vibes that speak so well to the daytime, evening out in mid afternoon to slower, mellower progressive moods. After that, well, we'll see, won't we?

Updated lineup with time slots:

8:00ish-10:00-D6 (Reno)
10:00-12:00- MasterSodium (Reno)
12:00-2:00- Flak (D-A-R-K Records Medford, OR)
2:00-4:00- GyPsy (COlorado, formerly Portland, OR)
4:00-6:00- Joe (Night set, Reno)
6:00-8:00- Officer Bunch (Ooze System/Saturated Mind, Sacramento, CA)
8:00-10:00- Teksus Jack (Medford, OR)
10:00-2:00- Godizus sisters (Vancouver, BC)
2:00-4:00- Joe (Progressive set)
4:00- the cows come home *open*

Deco by Godizus and us all.

Visuals by D6 (Interactive video! biggrin.gif Depending on wind conditions)

Will be using a mailing list to get the info out. Email gbtcinfo@gmail.com to sign up. Please use the subject, 'fishing trip' or something related to Nuclear Fishin'. ;)

Things to bring:

SMILES!
comfy dancing shoes and extra socks!!
LOTS OF WATER!!!!
Shade (we have no structure planned, unless... someone wants the job?)
SUNSCREEN, HAT, SUNGLASSES!! It will most likely be a sunny day!
tent, sleeping bag, etc for a night or 2 in the desert
Food (You need fuel to dance all night and day!)
BYOB (please try not to break any glass)
GARBAGE BAGS!!! (Lets get this started on the right foot, help us keep our wonderful land clean!)
Toilet paper

PLEASE DO NOT BRING:
BAd Vibes (We're going to play all sorts of stuff, Im sure you can find something you like, please keep your complaints civil! )
Uninvited individuals (The mailing list is there for a reason! We often have problems around here with shady individuals at parties, help us keep it mature and relaxed!)
Drugs, weapons
Dogs (if theres no shade, its really mean to let Fido bake in the sun..)
.

LEAVE NO TRACE! NONE WHATSOEVER!!!! BE PREPARED TO HAUL OUT EVERYTHING YOU BRING WITH YOU!!!!!!

Try to keep your ecological footprint minimal! Bring a big jug instead of small bottles, and refill a canteen. Bring stuff to cook, instead of a ton of packaged garbage! You get the idea.

We can keep having parties, and better and most importantly BIGGER!! But its up to us all, not just we the organizers. Together we can really make something great happen! Lets see what we can do!

Seeya out there!

I can't even begin to say how my heart is full of you right now. You the volunteer. You with the mind-blowing art. You in your theme camp most sublime. Individual personal thanks are in order, and like you I am pretty wiped out from the aftermath right now so please don't feel that I am not thinking about you personally as I write this to you generally.

I learned a lot, and hope that if there ever is a next time I can apply this experience in whatever capacity I am involved... but we did it, didn't we? As I looked around the rooms and witnessed our family in full expression and play, it was obvious that this was an event that was already in people's hearts, all we had to do was work our collective asses off to pop the cork and there it was... manifest! If we need to decompress from a re-compression party, that's a true sign of success.

I apologize for the ending with the abrupt white lights. I made it clear to the club owner that was not to happen. That's how you close a nightclub, not a burner party. I attempted to pre-negotiate and again re-negotiate to shift the party then to the observation deck (chill room) and cut down security but I lost that battle. There were other factors, including that old demon, insurance, that also affected the outcome. Perhaps I could have been stronger and fought harder for you. I'm sorry.
The Shiva Vista Project is an art installation *by* fire performers *for* fire performers at night and for other individuals and groups during the day. Shiva Vista will create an atmosphere for fire performers, theatrics, sunrise yoga, circus entertainers, poetry, fashion shows, etc. to play, interact, and display their talent six feet above the playa for all to see their evolution, their transformation from one year to the next. When the Shiva Vista is not being used for scheduled performances, it will be available to anyone to use for meditation, shade, drumming, as well as spontaneous fire art and beyond.

History and inspiration...
Shiva is one of three aspects of the Hindu trinity representing divinity. Brahma is the first aspect, considered the creator, Vishnu the second aspect considered the preserver and Shiva, the destroyer. Shiva's function is to destroy all the worlds at the end of creation and dissolve them into nothingness, void, from which point Brahma again creates the world, completing the circle of life. Shiva is responsible for change, both in the form of death and destruction and in shedding old habits to start anew. Shiva's destruction is positive, that of nourishment and construction that builds and transforms life and energy for the welfare of the world and all that inhabit it. Shiva destroys to renew and regenerate. This is the destruction of an artist, a surgeon, a cook; evolution. Through destruction is facilitated the smooth transition of things and events from one stage to another.

The Shiva Vista project represents the theme at Burning Man this year and the continued evolution of Controlled Burn and the Fire Conclave Convergence Camp in the sense that this installation is intended to be built this year and used over the next couple of years, facilitating change, evolution, the shedding of old and creation of new, recycling and the circle of all life. Additions to the original structure are in the design process and will be added for Burning Man 2008, at which time it will be burned as it was designed to do, fulfilling the inevitable departure from existence into nothingness and oblivion!

You can also read a recent write-up in the Reno Gazette Journal, outlining the project and promoting our first fundraiser at

Hello!

Glad you could make it!

So I need some assistance from peoples in decorating the bar area. With all my current projects, I cannot feasibly do all the bar decoration, and think the community should get involved in this portion of the party as well, especially since we have to drink there!

So I'm thinking spaceport bar theme. The music I have planned will make it a flying spacebar ("Its built like a steakhouse but it handles like a bistro") There are a few things that really scream spaceport bar to me. Aliens, futuristic geometric decorations, and rings. But thats just me. I don't plan a blacklight-centric bar, so it doesn't need to be flouro, but bright colors are always nice.

So we need lots of aliens. Cardboard cutouts seem to make a really easy alien on the cheap, and leaves alot of room for improvisation. I'm thinking more cartoony, friendly aliens (I.E Futurama style), but will leave this up to whatever people want to bring.

As for geometrics, I have my string art that was at the last stoney's party, and anything else geometric would be greatly appreciated.

Rings, well, you get the idea. RINGS!

As for lighting, it could use any christmas lights/ropelight people are willing to bring, as well as any other cool lights.

And anything else you thing would fit in a spacebar that you have or want to do, bring it on! I'm easy, so whatever you want to bring is whatever gets put up. I don't have any specific plans for how it should look, so let your creative energies go crazy.

And please share your ideas here, to get other peoples creative juices flowing!

With the loud nature of our events, we need to bring safety into play, and bring earplugs. As all of us get older, our hearing will only worsen, and the addition of 100+ dB music doesn't help that at all. We all want to continue to enjoy the beauty of birds chirping, streams flowing, flame cannons firing, chill music relaxing, and Jelly going off on some tangent IN SPACE!, so lets get responsible and start to bring copious amounts of earplugs to hand out to those who aren't in the know.

You can also purchase good quality ear plugs, that do not hinder sound quality as the cheapy ones do, for less the $15 (hell, a CD costs more then that), so why not invest in your ears.

If your new year's resolution includes building art, check this out...

In the spirit of the Green Man theme at Burning Man 2007, the following fun recycling art party is presented by Black Rock Electronica in cahoots with Skoosh Ink. Here's the concept:

Now through Christmas Day our respective garages will fill up with cardboard boxes, many of which will contain form-fitted Styrofoam pieces that occupied the negative space between the box and the genuine article. Pull out a piece of that styro and examine it as you turn it over in your hand. You may find that:

* It's an interesting shape
* It's light weight and sturdy
* It's NASA white!
* Yell into it-- it absorbs and diffracts sound

Don't take them to the curb just yet! On New Years Day, (Monday, January 1) from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, bring it all to Skoosh Ink to make "space art" out of it to decorate the April Reno-Compression event (Outer Space theme at Stoneys this year) and perhaps on the playa at LaЪшërks, a new Apokiliptika/Terminal City theme camp. That's at least two more artistic uses before the landfill for the fluffy stuff! I've got a tool called a "hot knife" that cuts through it like butter. Fun! For inspiration, check out this example of one artist's installation:
http://tinyurl.com/yh27xt

It's a potluck, so please bring a dish or something to share.

To find Skoosh Ink, here's a link to get directions:

and here's the map:
P.S. Help the needy see! Please bring any spare eyeglasses for charitable donations through The Lions Club of Reno.

Hey all you relaxed Renoites! Thought I might pass along some nice chill artists who Ive discovered over the years. These artists are "psychill", not really that different than normal chill, except of course psychill is intended to be psychedelic as well as relaxing (I find most chill, and most EDM in general, psychedelic). Its also known as psy-ambient, psy-bient, downtempo psy, psy-breaks, downtempo psy-breaks, a lemon, and a radish. THe last 2 I just made up.

SO, as a great, well known example, which Im sure many of you know already, is Shpongle. They've been together making music for quite a while already, and before Shpongle they had another downtempo project, the Infinity Project. Shpongle is more a fusion of trance, chill and world music. When they play live, which is rarely, they usually have about 7 people, including vocalists. Not bad stuff, and supposedly we can expect a new album out soon, though Ive heard no confirmations.
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Shpongle

Lately Ive been listening to a lot of artists on the lable Aleph Zero, who include Bluetech, Shulman, among others. Bluetech at Symbiosis was the most magical live set Ive seen yet. Amazing vibes from this guy! Breaky, electro-influenced chill. Sines and Singularities was released last year, and is definitely a very Blue release, dreamy floating, with the aforementioned electro vibe. Shulman is an Israeli artist who has also been around for quite a while. His last release, Random Thoughts, while maybe not his best is definitely worth checking out. He's got a new one due out already!
http://www.discogs.com/label/Aleph+Zero+Records

A nice release not too long ago was Space Divers, on Dropout records. Dropout is known for pure psychedelic ("Dark") trance, this is their first chill compo. Most of the artists on this release have never released a chill tune before. Mostly these artists have released "dark" psytrance tunes, so its nice to hear the opposite end of their respective spectra!

Well sorry if Ive bored anyone, just sharing a bit of jewelry Ive found in my searches, and who knows? Maybe you'll find something you like!

Of course there are a ton of psychill labels and artists I havent mentioned. So, check for yourself!

Hi. Mister Jellyfish here. I live in Sparks, Nevada and recently joined with d6 and Omar Suarez to put on the Black Rock Electronica event at Stoneys in Reno on 11/11 which was pretty successful and seemed to bring lots of joy to our local Burner community. Here's the poster: http://www.robotronia.com/mantis.html

As d6 and I were retrieving some of the art from the venue, we talked about the next event, and here's what we brainstormed so far. An event featuring:

* Chill / Downtempo / Ambient music with the sole DJ being that of a mannequin or robot with headphones
* A space ship / outer space theme
* More breathtaking eye-candy art
* Tons of pillows and low, comfortable seating
* More time to prepare, late March of 2007?
* Four-screen projection, some interactive
* An 18+ event
* Not sexual, very sensual

I am inspired by the soulful interactions many find at Burning Man and recently at the "Be Nice" parties that have been so successful in the Bay Area. Here's a link: http://www.beniceparty.com

Let's talk here about the possibilities. The Northern Nevada Burner community is really starting to hit that tipping point, and we hope to knock it over the edge with rare events like these.
