Got this in the email today...
I will teach four free improv workshops as part of Artown.
Each workshop will focus on improv basics and they will be a great
learning experience for actors, improvisers, or anyone who wants to
become more comfortable speaking in public. Though the workshops
will focus on improv basics, each will also provide excellent tools
for any level of improviser. Come on out, it will be a fun and funny
experience. These workshops are FREE and they don't cost anything
either. Empire Improv has 4 free workshops in July and while each one
will focus on similar skills they will differ, so feel free to attend
more than one.
Space is limited; please email michael@empireimprov.com to reserve
your spot.
Learn more about Empire Improv's Shows and future classes at
empireimprov.com.
The workshops are on
Sundays, July 6th, 20th, and 27th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
and
Tuesday, July 8th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Location: "Studio on 4th", 432 E. 4th St., Reno
I hope to see you there.
Thanks,
Michael Lewis

Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 5:46 PMYes, Stacie! And we need you back doing theater of some kind!
Improv is fun and scary and amazing and funny and twisted and cool.
Hope I can make it to one of these, at least, and maybe we'll finally meet, wouldn't that be a kick in the pants?! :) -

Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Sat, July 5, 2008 - 3:54 PMI'm coming to the one tomorrow. Where is that studio? -

Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Sat, July 5, 2008 - 4:18 PMThe Studio on 4th is on E. 4th near (just west of) Valley Road--so just slightly east of downtown. If you're going East on 4th it is on the right side of the road.
Have a blast!

Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 6:08 PMYay, Stacie!
"Done better" ha. In improv there is no right or wrong, no good or bad, no better or worse. It is such a fascinating and terrifying and fun way to express various things. So glad it was fun for you. I need to get back to improv.
I took an improv class with Mary B. 3 years ago at Bruka and it was awesome. What cracked me up was that one of the people in the class hated me because I didn't always do funny 'whose line is it anyway' improv. I went to some dark places. I also had fun and went to the light places. But she thought it was supposed to always be funny and seemed annoyed by my choices. Not that She had a sense of humor!
Will you be able to do any others this time around? -

Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 7:38 PMI don't know. I don't wanna make a nuisance of myself. That was really fun though. I tried a few things and got into it. I felt drained but good afterward.
I often forget how cathartic theatre is.
I don't think improv has to be funny at all. It sometimes REALLY is, and that is great too. But it is really weird and goes unexpected places, and I really enjoy that aspect of it.
Maybe if there is a BIG group going one of these times, I'll go again. We had a pretty small group today. -

Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 10:28 PMI might be able to do the one on the 27th...
Yeah, cathartic, weird, etc. I love that too. It's neat just not knowing where it is going and letting go and going where your mind takes you--in conjunction with other people and their minds. Wild!
Let me know if you could go on the 27th and maybe we can get ourselves there! And finally meet!!!! -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Improv Workshops in July!
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 6:22 AMI might come on the 27th just so I can close that social loop with you! :)
