PDX RFD Meeting Notes
May 18, 2006
Notes by Kyle

I. Faeries in attendance:
• Kyle
• Damien
• Stevee
• Wing
• Padme
• David the Wiseman
• Rodney
• Stella Maris

II. Timeline
We discussed how the dates for production have been bumped up a month from our original estimates. We changed the submission dates to require all first drafts of articles due on July 1st for peer review and editing. That will give us two weeks for editing and then another two weeks for production.

III. Round Robin of Concepts for Issue
• Wing is working on an article about heart circle. It is currently two full pages. He would like to add some kind of illustrations, but he’s not sure what. Wing will also be writing a music review. It was suggested that he does at least one review of a Portland band.
• Stevee will be doing the design and production for the issue. This includes doing the layouts, front and back covers and any needed imagery on the inside. He is currently working on a green man image for the back cover. He has also been taking photos at Faerie coffee that will evolve into a spread of PDX faerie faces.
• Padme is going to write an article all about Rooster Rock and our Faerie nude beach culture. We looked at several old paintings on Tribe.net that showed just how cock rock got its name.
• Stella had the idea of creating a Portland Faerie Family Tree. Her idea is to have all of us self select and design our family tree at a Faerie Coffee in June, probably the 17th and 24th. She’s going to come early, bring butcher paper and give everyone a chance to add their story. She will also be writing a journalistic article about the PDX Faerie Coffee experience.
• Kyle will being writing a Faerie Visitors Guide to PDX. I will post a list on Tribe for people to add their favorite spots. A few Faes are going to help do a drag photo shoot at some of the locations to accompany the article. I will also possibly do a Guest Editor’s note- that is if I feel so inclined.
• Rodney had several ideas and has not selected one. He is interested in the Portland food scene, Gardening, interviews with Portland permaculturalists and queer farmers.
• Damien has lovely pen and ink punk rock sex drawings that he would like to contribute. He is going to come by Stevee’s house to have them scanned.
• David is exploring writing an article about spirituality and atheism in an interview format, possibly a joint effort with Gregory Sax. He would also like to write an article about the larger queer community in Portland (from an SF perspective).

IV. Review of Other Concepts
I went over the list of ideas submitted via email by other Faeries:
• Zebra is writing an article about Sissyboy.
• Bart Church is writing an article about how Faerie magic in Portland is integrated into the larger queer community.
• Leo is writing an article about the Breitenbush gatherings and the history of Faerie Coffee in PDX, including how anyone can start a Faerie Coffee in their town.
• Leaf Night Dancer wanted to write a PDX Faerie on the Road review of his travels to Thailand.
• Lee Kyle would like to submit some of his drawings
• Clarity would like to submit poetry.
• Boondock would like to do a Personals/wanted/needed ad. Some concern was raised that this was removed from RFD previously and we should look into the reason why.

V. Review of Ideas Submitted but not Claimed
• Feature article on Ms. Clear Plastic
• PDX Faerie history with interviews of folks who remember
• Articles about local artists (Holcombe Waller, Stevee Postman and Tom Spanbauer have been mentioned)
• Porn Spread
• Section for Community Thanks

VI. Production
It was discussed that we have 25 pages to work with. If everyone who has submitted a concept comes through we will probably be cutting it close. It will be VERY important to submit your rough drafts on time for the July 1 deadline. This will give us a good idea about whether there is extra space or if we need to edit articles down.

The word count and page limits were discussed. I stated that there is an RFD style guide and that I would send the info out to the group when I receive it from Kwai Lam.

Stevee talked about getting started on the layout so we can see how many pages can be allowed for each article. We may also need to set a word limit for each article. We need to check with Kwai to see how the article is going to be integrated with stock materials- see style guide.

VII. Next Meeting was tentatively set for the middle of June.
