Of places that my company may possibly transfer me to for a time...I'm originally from North Seattle and have spent little to no time in the area. What I have heard recently is that you've grown into a pretty good size area and it isn't feeling so remote anymore, housing is pretty inexpensive...and that is it.

Does anyone have some encouraging words, or a general description of live in the area?

We're a couple currently calling Anchorage, AK home, in our mid to late 30's, about to start a family, politically involved and very liberal. I work in media sales and development, he is an IT jack of all trades.

We'd love some input!

G I Joes is coming
(http://www.gijoes.com/corp/index.jsp?page=job&eid=2913)

I'm all for the Retail Business in our area. I work in the retail sector.
But do we need another Super Store Chain?

Tri-Cities has surpassed Spokane to become the #2 shopping desination in Washington.

How many WalMarts do we have now?

G I Joes is a Northwest Based Retail chain, started in Portland.
What do you like this new addition brings to the Tri-Cities?

Richland, WA - After giving movie lovers a place to go for over 50 years, the Richland Uptown Cinemas is finally closing its doors. The Uptown theaters opened its doors back in 1951. One by one neighboring theaters from the same period closed over the years. And now finally Uptown Cinemas will join the list. Regal Cinemas sold the property to carpet businessman Warren Luke who said he might turn the building into a home for retail stores.

My Turn to Contribute

OK, so I finally have something kinda cool to contribute to this space. I heard about a fun little get together happening at 5:30 pm every Tuesday at the Tuscany Grill in Richland. It's called "Drinking Liberally", which means it's meant to give liberals a situation where they can knock back a few and shoot the breeze. In a blood red area like the Tri-Cities, that's a rare and wonderful thing. I haven't made it yet myself, but plan to get there one of these weeks.

I won't spare a word here for any naysayers or party crashers. I trust they have no shortage of places to drink and shoot their mouths off.

New Used Bookstore open in Downtown Kennewick

Just stopped into The Bent Page for the first time today. It is on Auburn street just before you hit Kennewick Ave. if you're coming up from the river.

Cool guy named Ryan runs the place, which he opened up in November. It's small, but he packs some great stuff in the space that he's got. The quality of the literature titles is, generally, much higher than the Bookworm, with comparable prices. Not so much emphasis on "beach reading" type mass-market paperbacks. I picked up Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, Catch a Fire by Timothy White, and Hell's Angels by HST for $12. All in perfect shape.

He's also got records, DVD's, VHS, comic books, and graphic novels.

He's a native Tri-Citian who spent six years in Seattle before returning in July.

We need more of businesses like this in the Tri-to-be-Cities, and you'd be doing yourself a favor if you went in there and checked the place out.

Well, <cue the patriotic music> Election Day is upon us, and I sincerely hope that you have all been good citizens and done your duty for our democracy! It takes almost no time to vote, especially if you've done a bit of reading on the issues and candidates beforehand. Despite the fact that I hate voting by mail, I'm still gonna say, "Happy Election Day!"

And Kendall, may your candidacy fail spectacularly. ;) Way to put a touch of irony into the voter pamphlet!

The Tour?

Is anybody signed up to take the Hanford tour? As a kid on two very special occasions I visited the Hanford Project.
Buy this time my father no longer worked in the 100 Area Reactor Operation or the 200 Area or 300 area.
My father had transferred because of decommissioning of most of the reactors to the 700 Area. The Printing and Duplicating Department, and was put in charge of classified files for the Atomic Energy Commission. I would appreciate any reflection on the tour if possible. As most of don't know that my family moved from Pasco in 1973 when I was 14 yrs. old and my father went to work in a main DOE head office in another state. I promise to be civil, not to let my emotions take over, and make any comments, it's not that kind of an issue to me. I just want to learn from your experiences. Thank you.
We pay for its clean up with our votes and our taxes, now the Hanford site is offering tours this year for the first time since 9-11.
On these tours, you have to dress comfortably. You’re covering a lot of ground – 586 square miles to be exact.
The tour through the B-reactor gives you a first-hand look at how they manufactured uranium and plutonium that helped make the atomic bombs in WWII. Now, Hanford is involved in the largest waste clean up effort undertaken in human history and they show you how they are dealing with the dangerous waste.
"They're seeing one of the most historic sites west of the Mississippi river. It's important for all Americans to know that this is where the atomic age started and our country has been different and the world has been different ever since B-reactor started up," said Historian Michele Gerber.
The tours for this year are already booked, but you can sign up for the next ones in late Spring and early Summer of 2006.

We found one last night that can surely use a hand up. Driving home at the 240, Columbia Center boulevard we heard a mewing coming from the sagebrush. Of course E. had to investigate. What we found there was a spotted, tiger striped little ball of fluff. At first we thought the poor thing's legs were broken, until we dscivered that it could walk. Its problem wasn't that its legs were broken, it was that the poor thing was so bowlegged it walked with an almost reptilian/amphibian gate. Of course we couldn't leave it there, so while it followed E. back to the corner I ran home, got a box, some leftover kitten food a dish for water, and two old t-shirts.

When I caught up with the two of them I very carefully picked up the little guy and put him in the box. We then drove to the humane society and dropped him off with some fresh water and food, christening him with the name Oedipus, because this kitten was lame of foot and left on a hill to die much like his namesake. He seems pretty healthy so I'm sure he'll make it through the night. Hopefully they will be abe to clean him up and find him a home. I felt badly about leaving him there, but they are always such assholes about strays, and we felt he badly needed their attention, so his needs outweighed normal protocol.

I thought I would let everyone know out there about Oedipus so that hopefully a kind soul might take pity on him and take him in. He would have to be an inside kitty obviously, but other then his birth defect, there appears to be nothing from stopping him from being a loving companion, as he likes people, so much so that he followed E. closely for 50 yards and never once protested being in the box, which was quite large and well venitilated in case you are worried.

Anyway thanks for reading this, my apologies for throwing another urchin cat story on this board.

Tonight at Club Out and About is the regular Thursday night Latino Drag Show. However, what makes this drag show extra special is it happens to coincide with Cinco de Mayo, the hallowed Mexican holiday celebrating the defeat of the French by Mexico. Come together this evening with us to Cinco de Boyo and celebrate the historic traditions of dancing and lip-syncing which drove those nasty froggies from ole Mexico.

Anyone can drink a Mexican stoplight at a shitty mexican restaurant, but it takes a real man to do them while a guy dressed like Brittany Spears is waving his heuvos in your face. THAT TAKES COJONES.

So Join us this evening at Club Out and About dressed as your favorite historical mexican crossdresser for Cinco de Boyo, and help us to celebrate a cultural tradition that has made mexico what it is today.

What the Tri-Cities Needs is a WORLD'S FAIR

I’ve been thinking (something I have entirely too much time to do nowadays since my job search has been fruitless). How long has it been since this country has had a world’s fair – an “expo”? I have fond memories of the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962. Lunch on the Space Needle, the monorail, the Space Bubble or whatever it was called – just an orb-shaped elevator as I recall.

I never made it to the Spokane Expo. I believe that was in the mid ‘70s and I was performing my extremely important duties as News Director, mid-morning disc jockey, Chief Engineer and Production Manager at the mighty KULE Radio in beautiful downtown Ephrata. God, I hated that town, but that’s another story.

Now, Nerdwagon has decried the lack of postings here regarding activities of interest to this tribe. Admittedly, the cultural and social ambiance of the Tri-Cities has declined since the wide-open, wild and debauched days of WPPS construction in the ‘70s. There are no more Steakouts, Starlights, Emil’s Chuckwagons, Adrians, etc. where we could listen to local country and rock bands (some pretty good, some just plain execrable), get drunk and/or stoned and meet (meat?) up with people we could just jump into bed with that same night.

Maybe what the Tri-Cities needs is a good old-fashioned world’s fair! We could locate it out in the Hanford Area at the site of those abandoned power plants. The theme could be something like “Nuclear Power – Deader’n a Doornail”. All world’s fairs need a unique and identifiable symbol. A Space Needle and an arch have already been done. Something like that would probably just blow over here in the Basin anyway, what with all the wind we have. Maybe you have some ideas.

The Tri-Cities has one of the highest ratios of PHDs in the country, and was recently noted to have one of the most diverse ethnic populations in the nation. Surely it is an ideal location for the next world’s fair. We must get over such traumatic setbacks as the departure of the Tri-City Americans (I’ve never seen a hockey match. Have I missed anything?). We have to get past the closure of the FFTF so the big pharmaceutical companies can rake in billions of dollars in less effective cancer treatments than radioactive isotopes. We must pump money back into the economy by hiring back all those people who ran the cost of the WPPS construction in the ‘70s to such astronomical numbers that they had to be abandoned and put them back to work building the next WORLD’S FAIR!

And, of course, since I need a job, I would seriously consider offers to head up the Public Relations Department for such an endeavor. As long as I didn’t have to work too hard. And had a great benefits package….

I'm curious to hear if any of you know whether there is a barter system operating in the Tri-Cities. I have heard of this in other places, but it sounds suspiciously like something that's too sensical and communal to flourish here. Has anyone heard anything like this?

Mmmmmmmm Sushi

For the last two years I've been complaining that there is no sushi in this town but now my salvation is here.

Subs N Jean in Richland on the Parkade now has a full fledged sushi chef (including haori to the little white hat). The guy's name is Ho and the lady at Subs told me he bought the place from a relative of his that used to own it. He's from New York, so patronize his business PLEASE! Cause, honestly I am tired of driving to Yakima to fulfill my cravings. The atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, but the sushi is good (about a 7 on my scale of 1-10) and that would probably go up if he served sake and the atmosphere was a little better. They're still working out the kinks, because I went there yesterday and they were out of rice, so no sushi then, but rather than being mad I went back today (today they were out of ama-ebi, sweet shrimp).

Todays order was California rolls and six pieces of sushi. Our choice for the sushi were hokkigai (surf clam) very yum; unagi (freshwater eel) one of my favourites; and tobiko (flying fish roe) nummy but messy. The thing that impressed me most was the unagi. Usually at a so so restaurant the unagi is over coated with sauce, but not in this case. His unagi had just enough sauce to cover the outside of the fish and to give it a nice flavor, not at all overpowering like most sushi restaurants.

So rice eaters and you too fish eaters eat this stuff. And if you really need a sushi junkie to go with, send me a message.

The Gods at Tribe are trying the Ad thing
looky over there ------------------------------------------------------->

3 things we can do:

1st click on an ad. It's suppose to may them (Tribe) money. Click away. Make 12/23/04 National Click Day.
http://washington.tribe.net/event/81169230-2e3c-49d8-9a48-4d97572c385d?tribeid=399a2441-e442-4559-862e-f5574a454ff6&nextpage=http%3A%2F%2Fwashington.tribe.net%2Ftribe%2F399a2441-e442-4559-862e-f5574a454ff6%3Fr%3D10688&r=10688

2nd we should send them feedback. This is a community. A community by and for the community. Send them feedback. Post in the discussions. Add the discussion to your Blog. Mine is http://alittleredhairedgirl.blogspot.com/

Finally, and THIS is what we all should do...They will give US ad space! Let's create a 120x600 banner (gif/jpeg, 15k) to pomote our Tribe. We have to hurry the offer doesn't last long and I'm sure they getting flooded with requests. Since they won't add Tri-Cities as a Location this would a great way to promote us.

email me if you have ideas
littleredhairedgirl@gmail.com

I'm going to suggest this in my other Tribes too.

Fun as it is to FreewayBlog alone, the FreewayBlogger needs help from people in the Tri-Cities who would like to join in. Activist volunteers would be appreciated. Tired of the current regime? Get out and do more than just vote. Only three more weeks till regime change. The Richland By-pass represents a unique opportunity to FreewayBlog with little or no chance at exposure. Couple this with the fact that nearly all the Hanford employees drive by it this is an excellent opportunity to be heard.

...and you're f***ed

Again this year, I will be busting out my dirty matted santa suit for a saturday of drunken debauchery with the other Santi in Portland for this year's Santarchy, Santacon, whatever the hell you want to call it convention. Please let me explain.

Last year over 150 Santa Clauses in different phases of innebriation descended upon Portland for a night of partying the jolly man would thoroughly disprove of -- our trip included:

-Walkthrough of the Saturday Market.

-Magic Gardens for drinks and strippers.

-Walkthrough Embassy Suites to “worship the tree ”.

-Walkthrough Bancorp ’s Building to confuse Security.

-Walkthrough Powell's ending at the front door- joined the strikers briefly.

-Santa Sack Race at the park blocks in front of Powell's Technical Books.

-Eagles Club for gay bar porn and drinks.

-Ringler ’s for dinner and drinks.

-Fantasy Video to try and find Santa porn.

-Walkthrough Whole Foods Market.

-Hung Far Low for quick appetizers and drinks.

-Walkthrough Pioneer Square and "worship the tree" part two.

-Portland Center Stage to visit the SantaLand Diaries.

-Virginia Caf éfor drinks.

-Stealth Santa Walkthrough at Meyer and Franks (Santa makes it to 10th floor and invade a closed SantaLand exhibit- until they kicked us out). I GOT TO LEAD THE CHARGE ON THIS ONE!

-Talk an out-of-service Max driver into taking Santa to the Chinatown stop.

-Invade the Tube- no drinks, just demanding ice water and martini olives.

-Mary ’s Club for PDX SantaCon traditional drinks and strippers stop.

-Santa Stroll to the Jefferson Theatre to be VERY naughty.

-Out the back door of the Jefferson and into the River City Saloon.

-2 Gyrl ’s performance at the Jasmine Tree.

It's an exhausting, grueling over 12 hour long party that moves, and is honestly the most fun one can have fully clothed in a Santa Suit. Last year, I missed about a third of the event because my train was delayed by a trainwreck. I still caught the bulk of the red menace and drank my way through Portland at the various watering holes we stopped at, or by consuming my tropical blue schnapps convincingly hidden in a Scope bottle. Drunk Santas chugging windex and mouthwash are some of our favorite sight gags. We handed out the most outrageously reengineered toys and naughty and nice stickers to the bad big kids partying -- candy canes to the little ones we happened to encounter.

This year I am organizing a trip down to Portland for Eastern Washington Santi who would like to partake in the gift of the Magi. Since Santacon only visits places that do not necessarily "thoroughly" check ID's, the 18 AND OVER crowd is welcome. Besides, how are they going to know when you're in a Santa suit.

If you are interested let me know. We'll be putting together some pre-funcing events for those interested in coming. If you'd like to see pictures of Santarchy worldwide please go to www.santarchy.com or check out the various santa groups on tribe.com.

Santacon is Saturday December 4th from noon to midnight.

Ho Ho -- will somebody please get me a Ho!?!

My girlfriend and I have been having a running conversation about why Tri-Cities Businesses don't change their lightbulbs and fix their store signs. We've seen a lot of good ones lately.

bertson's (CHildren's Television Workshop goes into the supermarket business)
ostco (East German Warehouse Buying Club - Try the Kielbasa)
olla tree (Stop by and say hello, everything is a buck)

But this one takes the prize. The guy in the van up front souldn't stop laughing once he figured out what I was taking a picture of.

Well Tribe, it's that time of year again when I acknowledge my incremental progress toward the grave. I'd like to do something for part or all of the day, which is Sundaym but I just haven't heard about anything. It's a lazy longshot, but I'm hoping one or more of you guys will come up with a good idea. I should mention that I will have attained the mature-but-not-old age of "around 30", so let that guide you as much as you see fit. Thanks, Guys!

In the spirit of Joe Trippi and the Dean For America campaign, I have created a tribe for the Washington 4th Congressional District of which the Tri-Cities is a part. Consider it a place to discuss issues and organize actions to let our Federal representatives know what's going on out here. Too often they hie themselves hence to DC and only hear from us as individuals. I would like to see the citizens of our district be able to communicate with DC as an organized group of constituents.

If you are at all politically or civicly inclined, please help me build up the wafourth.tribe.net.

Justify me, Love me, Serve me... DON'T F*** ME!

From time to time, I find a place that I love is completely ruined by poor service. It's not that I asked for it, I mean I shower, and show up clean and smelling sweet, I'm polite and after some prodding by my girlfriend I even try to make eye contact with them. I tip well, usually 20% or above even, so what is it?

After some thought my girlfriend looked me straight in the eye and said, "I think it's this place."

"This Place?" I replied, questioningly.

"Yeah this place. These people have been working for the government for so long that they wouldn't know what service is if it smacked them over the head smiling."

And on further thought she is right. Tri-Citians are rude, for the most part. Selfish, pushy, and self absorbed (selfish x 2). And all you have to do is go to the mall to see them at their worst. It's here sandwiched between the mega bookstore with corporate coffee shop attached -- and the other corporate coffee bar that serves the same damn coffee, where you can find the dilletantes masquerading as high-powered cultural and corporate divas. Their children, drunk on hormones and way too much caffiene form a wall of ogling, drooling Old Aberzombie & Eagle Buckle cardboard athletic store wearing animals that you literally have to push yourself through. The adults graciously ignore the childrens faux pas to commit worse sins while on the roads in their SUV's with a cellphone, a palm pilot and a latte being juggled with the deftness of a clown in cirque de soleil. Winding down Highway 240 dancing the dance of anger and screaming metal & rubber death. It's no wonder this place is the way it is everyone wants an exit to be reborn in a new and better life.

I am digressing a little but I wanted to get back to my point on service. When the service I get in these places (which I am sure you will agree is poor) is translated to the little out of the way places, it pisses me off.

Case in point, this morning. After dropping the young'n off yesterday with her mother, my very special friend and I decided to go and have breakfast at a place we discovered last year. The Green Gage Plum is a little Marge Cafe that has been turned into a marginally nice place to have a meal, we've always found the food to be wonderful, that was until the Tri-Cities level of service seeped into it's veins.

We go in kind of late, looking to outwait the morning rush and pull in to a full parking lot, no big deal cause we walk in and there are still plenty of seats. The waitress, Jolie, pleasantly led us to our table and got coffee for us quickly. And just as quickly took our order, ok everything good so far EXCEPT "Oh, and I am sorry to tell you that there is no Quiche."

Well that's alright, E orders an omelette, and I order my second choice Eggs Benedict. And then we sit and talk and wait... and we drink some coffee and talk and wait ... and Jolie refills our cups and we sit and drink some more coffee and wait. and more people filter out and we watch them and talk and wait. To be honest Jolie went through at least four cup fills and we waited 45 minutes to an hour, and Jolie comes back and says to me. "[unintelligible name] says that there is no more ham so she asked if you wanted your eggs benedict with bacon."

I say, "Oh that's alright I'll have the number three omelet with a muffin like I ordered."

Jolie replies "OK but we are out of muffins." And at this point offers me toast or an english muffin or a bisquit.

I say to her "How about a scone instead."

And she makes up some story like she doesn't even know about scones. Now I know they have them, hell I've had them there before, but an hour later I am just wanting to eat. So she takes my english muffin order and again we wait.

In the mean while, I watch another couple come in and sit in the booth behind us. Jolie gives them the same story about the food, and then I watch the lady negotiate a fucking scone out of her, right in front of my face.

Old red head tight curled hair lady, "Tell her it's us."

Jolie, "Ok I'll tell her."

Like there is some secret code a la the Mr. White skit on Saturday Night Live.

The Jennifer Aniston who chews her nails too much lookalike did this right within earshot of me. Which is so funny because it's a scone for christs sake, not the holy grail. Not the key to cosmopolitan West Richland, it is a muffin like object. Unbelievable!

15 minutes later our food arrived and it was delicious, but it could have been hot wax because I was fuming. What should have been a 10 minute omelette took one hour and 15 minutes and it wasn't even what I originally ordered. On a $20 breakfast tab I left a $2 tip, of which, I should have left nothing -- because all she did was fill us up with coffee. I hope she uses the money to buy that nail polish which will help her not to chew on her nails.

But my real point is, there are certain establishments which should be avoided at all costs because they give such lousy service, so here is my warning list, feel free to add to it at whim:

Green Gage Plum - in West Richland, for everything above.

Sageport Grill - All around worst service ever award, I tried 4 times hoping they were just having an off day, but no they truly believe you should be happy they deign to serve you.

Rattlesnake Brewery - the other McDougals, but shittier with worse service.

Coco Loco's - a bartender made me a manhatten once that was so small, I said to him "What the fuck you want me to do with this, gargle it?" Of course I was wearing a santa suit at the time so it threw him off, but he was a prick so I said to him "Merry Christmas asshole, Santa says you ain't getting shit this Christmas least of all a tip!" (Entire waitstaff though were awful and the place is hugely overpriced).

Ray's Golden Lion - Nuff said.

The Mongolian Grill next to Bed Bath and Beyond - It was like dealing with the lady from "Swap meet Louie".

Sundance Grill - You shouldn't have to wait eons to order lunch when you are paying those prices.

Regal Cinemas - Columbia Center and Uptown. Once again proving that bad management can make any customer service environment impossible.

Carmilke - Ditto.

Red Lion Columbia Center - (Used to be Cavanaughs) never has been good, shitty motel, shitty bar, shitty restaurant shitty everything.

Outback Steakhouse - It's a corporate diner not the ritz, you should be nice to the people who give you money for your lousy overpriced food.

Anywhere in the Mall - As an ex mall employee, lemme tell you people something. Just because you work at some trendy upscale Aberzombie and Bitch, or American Bald Beaver or even the Bon, you ain't shit, so stop acting like you don't shit and be nice. That's why I usually travel to big cities, with real stores with nice people to make my purchases.

OK enough ranting. My point is Tri-Citians should either have to move away and spend some time in other places, or when they travel be forced to go to non-tourist destinations where they don't get "Inspected, detected, injected and neeeeglected." Places where they can meet real people who serve others because they like what they do and genuinely enjoy making people happy. Places where one can feel good about tipping people because they did make you feel comfortable, and happy.

And Tri-Citians, learn to tip! $2 on a $20 meal is awful, but I'm willing to bet that's not unusual for her. Normally she'd have gotten twice that from me, a five if she scored me a scone. But fuck'er. Her and the slowest trendiest busboy I've ever seen -- man that kid could lose track of a snail crawling across a table for as fast as he moved (damn now I am fixating on the Green Gage Plum again).

There has been more than one occasion when service has lost my money in this town. And I am sure there will be others. But you can bet you'll here about them right here.

ATTENTION: IT'S FINALLY ARRIVED! Bubble Tea Notice!

After my first taste of sweet ambrosia that is Bubble Tea, in Portland over a year ago I have been waiting and waiting for it to somehow come to this back assward place. This is a drink where if you walk down the street in Seattle or Portland people are literally begging you to know where you got it from. Some of my best fast friendships have come from bubble tea.

So my dilemma is I've discovered literally my favorite guilty pleasure in the whole wide world, and I can't get it in the Dry Shitties. I'll tell you how serious I was, I pimped bubble tea out to every little mom and pop espresso shack around. There were literally no takers. I learned how to make it, and made it myself for a while. Hell I've got big tapioca pearls and huge straws up the butt, but it never tasted quite as good. But now it's finally here, so I thought I'd make you aware of this wonderful little concoction.

If you've never had it you can look it up on this site:

http://www.bubbletea.com/

Better yet, if you would like to taste it go here:
NEW TOPIC: Good Food!

I know I am getting away from the roach coach ideals that I started with, but in addition to snarfing tacos off of tires, we also like to go out and eat grown up food once in a while. Every so often we come across a little gem that we'd like the rest of the world to know about, and last Monday we had one of those nights.

Calypso, is a Caribbean restaurant with a mondo martini bar attached to it. You'll find it in the most unlikely of places, that being a strip mall next to Skippers in Kennewick. But don't let the plain surroundings fool you. Inside you'll find pure heaven for the gourmet in you, especially if you like your food with flavor. Now there are only two ways in which you can make Caribbean food -- the right way and the wrong way. I know this beacuase last spring I happened to partake in a Caribbean restaurant in the midwest, and I found myself begging for the Pickapeppa sauce because it was so bland. At Calypso, I didn't even think of Pickapeppa, it was that good.

Now de rigeur for any Caribbean food is Red Stripe beer. It just goes with it, kind of like socks and Birkenstocks for a hippie. Red Stripe is a Jamaican brew with a mellow pallette cleansing taste, great for putting in between extra spicy tropical fruit salsas and super sweet mash ... but we'll get to those in a minute. Just order it with your meal and you'll be glad you did. And for the record this is the only restaurant I've seen in the Tri-Cities that carries Red Stripe.

Since we were light on cash that day, we just hit the meal and some beer, but I will say next time we're prefuncing at the martini bar. The martini list is awesome, plus it gives you time to make googly eyes at Megan, the cutest little asian bartender this side of Hawaii. We started out in the bar until a super annoying crowd of the dry-shitties finest drove us into the dining room (it's not you tribees but the narrow minded racists who seem to dog us whenever we are just getting comfortable). Anyway, Mr. Gook in your eye comment, if it wasn't for my girlfriend, I'd have put something in your eye, like, oh I don't know -- MY FIST!?? Anyway, Megan was much too cute to have to deal with that crowd but she did, with grace. We felt sorry to leave but it's hard to enjoy a meal with the middle ages happening at the next table over. Point is, go see Megan and tip her well.

The dining room was a comfortable atmosphere, which could use more plants and screens to break things up and make it more intimate. But overall it was clean, warm and inviting. Now for the food. My girlfriend had Pollo en Salsa de Coco - which is coconut breaded chicken breast, finished with a salsa of mango, pineapple, and coconut. For her sides she chose Smash, a concoction of plantain (really big bannanas), sweet potatoes, yam, and potatoes mashed together. The coconut chicken was more than enough for it's $15.95 price. It had a lot of flavor and was nowhere near the french size portions you get at other upscale restaurants. Now the smash, wow, you all can keep your mash potatoes and gravy, this stuff is the bomb biggety, well worth trying. To top it off each patron can have a salad or two sides, my girlfriend wisely chose the second side, which turned out to be Pan de Elote, or in my terms, the greatest cornbread ever made. I MEAN IT! this is not the dried up, used up stuff mom makes, they ought to rename this stuff corn cake. Try it, you will love it.

For my meal, I ordered the Mango Glazed Pork, with a salad (with Mango vinagrette dressing) and Amarillos (fried Plantain Banannas). The salad was fair fare, and the mango dressing was wonderful, but after tasting the cornbread, I was covetous of my girlfriend's and wouldn't make the same mistake again. As to my entree, there is a trick to eating it well. Cut off a piece of Plantain put it on the pork and cut off a piece of that. Now go to the side of the plate where the green compote is, and dip and eat. OK now you can chew, tastes of carmelized banannas fuse with the pork and mango, you can taste it can't you? Now do you feel and taste that? Oh yes it's getting warmer and hey there is a pinapple and lime flavor. WOW it really is getting hot! That was the compote served on the side of all of the plates. A mixture of Pinapple, and Habenero stuck in a blender with a little bit of lime juice, HELLO TASTEBUDS TIME TO WAKE UP! For a spicy food lover, pure heaven.

To end this posting, I have to say there are lots of other things we've yet to try on the menu that looked like pure heaven, but in the interest of economics we didn't dare. Things like Coffee Steak (Steak marinated for 29 days in kaluha and seasoned with ground coffee - HOLY SHIT) Lobster and steak etc ... all priced resonably but out of our skrimping for laundry money period we were in on that day. So we'll have to wait till payday, or until we get sponsorship. But we'll be back, and you'll see me in the back corner downing redstripe and making googly eyes at megan in the bar.

Until that time ... Eat da food an' drink da beer man!

El Boracho out ...

So this might be the last year of Water Follies as we know it. Does anyone care? It gets progressively less fun for me every year, and I am indifferent to the race, but it's a good excuse to party.

Why I love Elmos Dirty Book Store!

Last weekend my girlfriend said to me, "Hey I really want to go look at some porn!" So Naturally we decided to check out both porn shops in the Dry-Shitties. So we drive over the the Circle Jerk. Now the reason we call it that is because Elmo's has the old coin operated booths, you know, the kind where you get a minimum of $3.00 in quarters from the old guy up front, it perpetually smells of stale cigarettes and even staler semen. Walk in the room, pull the curtain shut, drop the quarters in the machine and voila, you get 3 to five minutes of porn. But that's not the reason we went there.

On the other side of the building is a full fledged sex shop, pornographic movies, sex toys etc ... etc... and this is where she wanted to go look for flicks. So we walk in and I instantly notice an attractive hipster couple at the front counter finalizing a purchase. Both he and she look nervous to be in there with all of us perverts so I don't act too annoying. So I am browsing through the Blacksploitation porn movies, and the following conversation just happens to waft my way:

Hipster: " Do you have any Bags?"

Old Guy: Grunts Mumbles "Mmmmmmm I think I might have someting here." Rustles around and pulls out some plastic. "Nope, Hey 'unintelligible name' we got any bigger sacks?"

Hispanic Porn Attendent: "Nope I haven't seen any."

Hipster: "But that one is see through, do you have anything darker."

Old Guy: More mumbling and grunting, sniffs hard. "All I've got are these blue ones here, their not quite big enough and they're a little transparent, how about I give you two?"

Hipster: "OK, if it's all you've got" More plastic rustling.

I turn to look as he passes, and he is carrying a box with the largest dildo I have ever seen. The bags, which are full size plastic grocery style bags leave a full eight inches of pure silicone love sticking out. The label on the box proudly announces "Bang!" And I am thinking, shit someone is seriously going to get "BANGED" tonight.

20 seconds out the door I of course have to blurt out "Jesus Christ, I've seen horse dicks smaller than that! I hope he can take it!"

Old Guy and Hispanic Porn Attendant immediately burst out laughing.

The moral of this story is, if your gonna buy a big dick, you better have the sack to go with it.

Many of the houses in Richland are variations on a few basic designs. These designs date from the years 1942-1952, when the government built “alphabet houses” in Richland, starting with “A” houses, and going all the way through "Z" houses by 1952. They also built three different styles of prefabricated houses, but most of these have been removed. In the years since the alphabet houses were built, many residents have modified their houses to add porches, entryways, and other changes, but the basic styles can still be spotted.
