I don't know if music taste has something to do with the rising sign. But I noticed a similarity with other scorp rising people:
we like all kinds of music, but there has to be some kind of energy in the song.
Some simple bass lines or an aggressive singer do the job for me, like punk or rock or some indie- or even jazz-pieces .
Or, then again, quite brainy music like Xenakis or Messiaen are great in some of my moods. There's definitely a lot of energy in it.
Most of what's played in clubs or in commercial mainstream radios just seems boring and superficial.

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 11:07 AMAll types of music: check.
Some level of intensity, lyrically, musically, vocally, instrumentally...yes. -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 1:44 PMI have eclectic taste in music - and by energetic, I'm not sure I know what you mean.
I love electronica, especially d'n'b which is high energy. I also love very soothing lounge and exotica like Martin Denny, and laid-back latin jazz. I don't think those would be considered energetic. -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 9:26 AMi like ALL types of music except country and rap...i don't like vulgar/super violent lyrics...there's no need for the nonsense..
anything from zepplin to the doors to the cure, depechemode, andrea bocelli, gypsy kings, arabic, spanish, techno, house etc etc...
anything that touches my soul, tickles my senses or just makes me feel alive...anything that accomodates whatever mood i'm in at a given moment... -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 11:01 AMI can enjoy almost any genre.
I bounce back and forth between Poprock and new agey instrumentals. The former being for the good mood, the latter for a bad mood.

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Sat, July 5, 2008 - 7:21 PMjust curious... pretty many people here seem to have a dislike of "country music". i just wonder why? for me as an ignorant european "american country music" equals great singers like johnny cash or dolly parton, and many here would put bob dylan into that box, too.
please please tell me you meant a different kind of music since i happen to love some cash-stuff (very energetic...)

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 2:01 PMi like music with ethereal quality...
Loreena McKennitt- chill music, with poetry and literature elements
random Gregorian chants...woohoo
www.youtube.com/watch
of course, deep bass sounds and awesome rhythms... yummmm
or devilish sounds....
i also like intelligent lyrics. i would prefer to listen to Jewel or Bob Dylan or any average folk singers over candy pop.
country? only Johnny Cash.
jazz... i like...
getting familiar with hiphop - it's the rhythm that matters - but don't consult the Top 40. (these people aren't necessarily real artists - they're just performers, or whores).. Always search underground (Hades!). as with everything else, that's where the Riches are! =) early artists: U-Roy, the Last Poets... the true rappers of today have good style, always poetic.
www.youtube.com/watch
i love the last part for this song... www.youtube.com/watch
pure poetry and such emotion -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 8:55 PMIn particular, Glen Hansard's stuff, or his band's stuff (The Frames) really floats my fixed-water boat these days. He gets a lot of emotion into his voice, whew...

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 10:40 AMi love techno. not drum and bass, not trance, but deep, dark Detroit techno. or soulful, emotional Detroit techno, say like Carl Craig. ok, I like some minimal techno, too, but only if it's got some emotion and passion to it. and lots of bass.
I also love the emotional drama of the Cocteau Twins, and the dark melancholy of Sol Invictus.
I like a lot of other stuff as well, but not much mainstream fare. well, ok, old Springsteen is great. -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Wed, April 23, 2008 - 1:25 PMHmmm, sounds so true to me. I once took a music genre test (some type of personality test), and it said i preffered eneregteci music, although my fav genres are Reggae, rnb etc still dnt get how that's considered energetic? but apparently it is. -
-
Re: taste in music: energetic?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 1:44 PMOr maybe the personality test is bullshit? I would sooner believe that than rework my definition of energetic music just to justify a test's results. -
-
Re: taste in music: energetic?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 7:41 PMI think you're right about that test, Desiree.
It turned out that scorpio rising is not about a specific kind of music, now it turns out that even my idea of "energetic music" was plain wrong.
Perhaps it's up to Venus to tell us about preferences in music? That would be Venus in aries for me, thus "energetic"?
Nonetheless, I believe I could sense a distinct relationship to music here: it shan't be meaningless and something in the background, but it has to be STRONG AND MEANINGFUL, MOVING OR MOOD AGGRAVATING.
Or is that wrong, too?
Also, I'd like anybody who posted here to write their Venus' sign.

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 3:48 PMActually Neptune, the higher octave of Venus, rules music as well. My Venus is in Gemini, but my Neptune is exactly conjunct my Scorpio Ascendant, so music is very important to me and I usually have it on.
I have a very wide taste in music and usually prefer something with a good beat to it that can get me going. (Mars trine Nept / Asc}
Plus having alot of aspects to Neptune adds to the variety. Venus is unnaflicted, receiving trines and sextiles.

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 6:16 PMI have Venus in Libra 12th house. To me Venus in Libra seems to resonate with my taste for dreamy, beautiful and languid tropical island music and exotic jazz. Also my affinity for chill downtempo.
I have such varied taste... I also love really dark music - like trip-hop, dubstep and drum'n'bass. But I think my taste in drum'n'bass leans slightly more toward the melodic and/or atmospheric varieties than the dark, often high-energy flavor.
Yes, I think I can agree to all of the above - strong & meaningful, moving (this is how I'd categorize the island and exotic jazz... and other chill stuff like ragtime, or whatever that genre Django Reinhardt & Emmett Ray would be considered), or mood aggravating. -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 3:13 PMVenus in Scorpio conjunct the Asc here, and my taste in music is basically anything, as long as it has a certain level of sensuality and/or intensity about it; be it through the beats, the rhythms, the lyrics, the violin in the background, the tone of the singer's voice, the long frase in the end slowly fading out... The list goes on. And I really love it when a song starts off slow and then builds up and builds up until you feel like the music in *within* you, pumping through your own heart and you're completely swept off your feet. Nothing beets that feeling!

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 3:44 PMNot sure if this counts, but I've always had a thing for that deep, even husky voice that switchfoot, lifehouse even nickelback has minus the pop genre about them all. MUST have lyrical depth and/or a meaning that I can relate to - I hardly ever listen to music just for music unless its ambient. LOVE the Foo Fighters (older stuff mainly) and most other genres but for some reason I can't listen to the cheesiness or whatever it is in most of the country music or the harshness in alot of rap. The superficial part you mentioned about mainstream radio rings true with me completely

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Wed, July 2, 2008 - 7:04 AMHmmm I can run the gamut from Classical to Punk with the exception of country and rap. I do like heavy bass and a definite rhythm. -

Re: taste in music: energetic?
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 1:25 AMI have always loved good basslines in music. any music but country. Ever since I had been forced to learn how to play bass for my band, I have developed an ear and appreciation for what the bass does in music. Perhaps I wasn't aware of it as much before, but all my favorite songs are groovy on the bass. Bass riffs I create naturally are also very groovy and funky. Like old 70's porn music.
I love a good bass tone. Not the shitty bass tones that kids have blasting out of the trunk of their car nowadays. I like a good bass tone that is deep and present and hits you in the chest. I wish I were in a funk band instead of a metal band.
Since my bandmates forced me to make a transition from guitar to bass, I force upon them the "funky shit"
