Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 11:01 AMI had to look him up as I have never heard of the author. Certainly seems like someone full of Scorpio intensity. I noticed he has Saturn in Scorpio in the 3rd house which does seem very appropriate for an author with such serious and powerful themes.

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 1:46 PMnotice his mars in 8th house, square pluto.... Heavy stuff, an astrologer friend of mine once described mars square pluto as, "boxing gloves with barbed wire wrapped around", this is the fist penetrating death of death. I felt very close to his themes and inner sanctum, with my mars aries, scorpio ascendant and saturn in scorpio, conjunct pluto in libra.
I would say Jeff Buckly's music had a deep scorpionic aura and mysticism to it, with a heavy dose of neptunian romanticism. The feel of "Dream brother" and the lyrics to "I woke up in a strange place" haunted me most... definately a ghost now

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Mon, November 9, 2009 - 9:12 AMI would say they're pretty appropriate to Pluto rising in Scorpio. One of my all time favourite movies is Event Horizon, the themes (social as well as space) of which may reflect my Uranus rising as well as Scorpio. It's one of the most intense psychological horror movies I've ever seen.

Mon, November 9, 2009 - 12:17 PM"How deeply do they resonate with you personally?"
This is going to sound stupid, but one of the books that affected me quite a bit (and it may have been just what emotional state I was at the time) was the Golden Compass, the final book in the His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pullman. I say it sounds stupid cos technically its a kids book. However the ending was very sad and if I'm honest I actually cried a little bit when I read it. Don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it.
I think any book relating to vampires is probably going to appear on that scorpio list too, right from anita blake books to ann rice to the twilight series - in some form or another deal, however superfically or deeply, with scorpio themes.
Other books I've read that I'd include would be Wicked by greggory maguire, hamlet by shakespeare and romeo and juliet.

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Tue, November 10, 2009 - 6:00 PMHey, don't put down any of the Dark Materials books. I'm in the middle of the Golden Compass right now, and it has some pretty heavy themes- regardless of whether it's a "kids book" or not! My wife is a huge Anne Rice fan (Scorpio moon maybe) I really admire her writing but just have never spent the time to really get into her books. On the other hand I am in the middle of Interview with the Vampire right now! -

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Thu, November 12, 2009 - 2:08 AMHis Dark Materials is brilliant. I recommend them to anyone - I also love Harry Potter, probably my fave books ever, not really sure if its my scorpio rising side that it appeals to though.
When it comes to songs, I think good Scorp rising songs are probably:
Wild Horses - Rolling Stones
Heaven can wait - Meatloaf
Two out of Three Aint Bad - Meatloaf
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
On My Own - Les Miserables
And I am Telling You - Jennifer Hudson
Desperado - The Eagles
Make You Feel My Love - Adele
Live and Let Die - Guns 'n' Roses
Patience - Guns 'n Roses
Something - The Beatles
Machines - Biffy Clyro
(in case by some absurdity you don't know any of those songs, you need to check them out right now. Seriously. Why are you still reading this? I said RIGHT NOW!) -

Thu, November 12, 2009 - 2:51 AMPaul, No Nirvana?
Songs Milk It, Dive and Scentless Apprentice
Kurt had Pluto on the Ascendant, Mars in Scorpio, with many pluto aspects intermingling. -

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Thu, November 12, 2009 - 2:56 AMWell i was gonna go for a few Nirvana songs but decided against, as I wasn't sure if it was really scorpio or pisces.
I not a huge nirvana fan but was going to go for heart shaped box but for the lyrics "she eyes me like a pisces when I am weak..."

-
Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Thu, November 12, 2009 - 8:06 AMthe pisces fluidity of ethereal swimming is present just as strong in his songs as the creation destruction process of Pluto. Apparently one of his favourite past times was to watch his pet piranhas shred to pieces random docile fish he bought from a pet shop. He had a hypnotic posessed fixation on the piranhas ruthless meal patterns.
I think aphex twin has created some very Scorpionic music. "Mount of st. michael and St. Michaels mount" is a dark brooding song. Also check out his Ambient Selections 2 album.

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Thu, November 12, 2009 - 11:58 AM"Heart Shaped Box" is the shit! My sister was a huge Nirvana fan when i was growing up, you know, the whole 90's grunge thing? Yeah, that was her! Heart Shaped Box to me is like the song for the brooding teenage Rising Scorp... and i hate "Smells Like Teen Spirit", my sister played that song over and over, that and "Give it Away" from red hot chili peppers... i hate them both! :)
I think "Man in The Box" from Alice in Chains is a good candidate too!

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Wed, November 11, 2009 - 3:10 PMOne song that reminds me of Pluto, is "Kiss From a Rose" by Seal. I was like, 4 when that movie came out, but i emotionally connected to the song from the moment i heard it. I love it to this day, maybe it's the stoic, melancholic emotion and intensity of the song that captured me, but whenever i hear it, i feel that song deeply with every part of my being. -

Thu, November 12, 2009 - 6:53 PMHmm, many of Toni Morrison's books seem very Plutonian...Beloved, The Bluest Eye...traumatically beautiful.

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Thu, November 12, 2009 - 7:43 PMPaul got me thinking with his comments on kid's books. I'd forgotten how obsessed I was with the Narnia books, I think I read all seven of them by the time I was 10. Two scenes really stayed with me though- one was in the Magician's Nephew, a prequel to the whole series. In it the two kids Digory and Polly find gateways to other worlds in the form of pools in a space between two attics, they end up jumping into one which has almost dried up and find this incredibly apocalyptic world with crumbling buildings and a giant red sun. The other was at the end of the Last Battle where a bunch of dwarfs sit in a huddle convinced they are shut inside a dark hut, while Aslan tells the kids that they just haven't opened their minds enough to see what that they are really in a wide open space in broad daylight.
I've no idea if this is a Scorpio thing or not, but I've always been completely obsessed with the idea that just by climbing through crack in the wall or something an entire world opens up. In keeping with this theme I was really into the Dungeons and Dragons animated TV series in the 80s- and Fraggle Rock! -

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 12:58 AMI read every famous five book, every secret seven book and every book from a series called the Three Investigators before i was 9. I was a huge reader when I was young.
Of course they're all mystery related books!

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Mon, November 16, 2009 - 5:00 AMMy friend made me read "The Reader" last weekend, and it reminded me of some Scorpio themes, mainly taboo, sex, secrets, power struggles/control issues in relationships... (I mean some of the things that the narrator said about his lover was what I'd experienced with a Scorpio, too. I'm also guilty of the same things.)
The story also illustrates how the woman's unwillingness to confess her flaws (counter-productive pride) made her paint herself into a corner, and sting herself to jail... ("Cut nose to spite face," - read that phrase in quite a few articles about Scorpio) -

Re: Scorpio movies: The Human Contract
Tue, November 17, 2009 - 1:35 PMIn the movie, " The Human Contract " dark family secrets, deep passions, illicit seduction/sex, and the idea of real values gets a look, ,for instance, when is having sex with a married woman not adultery * the passionate encounter *intense emotions. *The secrets *the rules
How can you up-hold your employer's image mandate of family values while you're experiencing your own family break-up,lies, chaos having sex with a married woman, cheating on your spouse, etc. ?.
Is perception really reality when you are tricked into having sex with some(body) other than you intended partner?
What are the limits to doing whatever you want? Going from being in complete control to being suicidal, even homicidal?
Experience the agony of tasting what you desire and realizing it was an illusion of or that as real as it seemed and felt, it is non-the-less a bottomless pit , not something you can ever really possess , it just doesn't fit in with the rest of your life and obligations. Human Contract shows
Some things are to be experienced and felt deeply, then "let go ", and/or kept secret for the sake of worldly success as one must get on
with the business of living
within well defined rules of engagem

Re: Scorpio movies, books etc.
Sat, November 21, 2009 - 12:13 AMbtw this isn't sex sex, like the normal sex that we like to have.
Criminals are nuts.
Scorpios will enjoy the power that comes with truth, and the lie-detecting techniques in the last chapters here.
