I've made plans to get out. The house should hold, though I expect all kinds of detritus, traffic signs, and small automobiles will be blowing around, trying to break in through the windows or the roof. We have a 14-year-old who is not fond of rough weather. I'd kind of like him to experience a hurricane. It will either toughen him up a bit or traumatize him for good.

My parents have a place in Colorado. Not many hurricanes reach Colorado. We are privileged folk. Counting dogs and cats and Gramps (if he comes) there will be nine of us in the condo.

I will be coming back, though, as soon as or even before it's All Clear.

Two of my co-workers will be riding it out here at the help desk. Wish them well.

Not scared. Panicking, yes, but not scared. Feelings of grave anticipation roiling in my gut, yes, but no not me ain't skeered no siree. (And certainly not at a loss for words.)

      we are now staying.

last night, myself, my honey, our daughter and 3 cats piled into the car after batting down the hatches, securing everything we could and doing all last minute preps before hitting the road at 1am.

we had every intention of leaving but after 2 hours of going 10 miles with our kitties literally beside themselves we didn't figure we could hold out like that for too long. we turned around and headed home after 3am, got 5 hours of sleep and things seemed worse for a little bit, until the storm shifted further east.

as we live in the heights, the highest elevation of town, in a very solid structure, we are not worried about flooding (even during allision, water did not even come close) so based on that, we have made the decision to ride it out here in our home vs. the insanity on the roadways. we took all day yesterday and prepared so we are not rushing around for supplies today. but if something should happen sometime later on this afternoon that isn't favorable, we are also prepared to leave again and head west towards canyon lake.

i feel all your pain - yesterday was literally the worst day of my life, the stress level i felt was overwhelming at points where i felt i couldn't breathe. at this point, i feel like that has been lifted off my chest - though i am not complacent nor kidding myself that the storm will not be scary, i feel confident the mighty jah will bless and provide.

"we don't want RITA, we want margaRITAs!" let that be our battlecry...

      blessings,
      :) august

Since the storm is bending to the east, we have taken shelter on the far west side in my parents' home. Still accessible my e-mail or tribemail.

Oddly enough, my mother is not mixing margaritas, but I am enjoying the St. Arnold summer pilses I stashed here. The beer is miraculously non-skunky after three months.

Glad to see that if people are not bugging out (the old connotation), at least they are drinking. L'chaim!

I'm in Trinty and we are staying in a single wide mobile home hoping that galveston (no offense to those who live there) will take most of the harder winds and help tame the storm before it hits us at 130 miles inland. From the projected models it looks like it will sit on us now for like 5 days tho, I live less then half a mile from Lake Livingston and at the dam of the San Jac river... I hope that it wont flood us out too bad but if you see 9 people and 2 pitbulls surfing with a mobile home that would be me and my family... I wish i had a car right now to get the fuck out of town...
