Re: ???????
Thu, September 29, 2005 - 6:36 AMWe're fine here in Katy. Lost some shingles on the roof and the plum tree. The big pine tree is still standing, but not for long. I'm going to take it down before the next storm. I have'nt heard from my relatives in Port Arthur yet, but I'm sure they are ok too. The National Weather Service has posted photos of the region and their houses are still standing. Never lost power. Hope every one else on this list is ok. -

Re: ???????
Thu, September 29, 2005 - 1:57 PMOh we are fine..what an anti-climactic hurricane!..for us anyway..Power was out for maybe 6 hours. Branches everywhere and we lost 1 bananna tree.
There was more damage done to our livers and kidneys than to our property...thanks to the 3-day battening down the hatches party.
I rode my bike around the Heights the next day to assess the damage. There were some really nice trees down and branches and leaves everywhere, but it seemed like most people had their power back and stuff...I saw one tree that had fallen on a roof and the guy was up there removing it with a buzz saw.
My poor friends who evacuated.
My buddy Eric was worried that his mom was going to die of heat exhaustion..apparently there were some people who did die in the evacuation traffic...besides the fiery bus inferno.
He came home yesterday and seemed absolutely frazzled by the experience...but he had alot of other stuff oing on besides. -

Torn up
Fri, September 30, 2005 - 6:01 AMWe're unscathed, but I wanted to share something that's been tearing me up all week. First, a churchmate lost her mother and aunt in that bus fire in Wilmer. This woman's two incredible children sing in our children's choirs. I really want to reach out to them, but they stayed in Dallas after the storm. Their regular home is out past New Ulm, near Columbus. I hope I'll see them Sunday.
Also, I've talked to two people whose dogs died from the heat and lack of water during the evacuation. Just died, right there in the car with them. One family has a boy of 12 who was with them while it was happening.
It burns me up that so many people we pushed into leaving Houston when it turned out they didn't need to. The Chronicle has been providing 20-20 hindsight: Run from the water, hide from the wind. People not threatened by storm surge or catastrophic flooding should stay put.
