So, I assume different tones of music can affect you emotionally. I have just recently went through a very hard relationship break up and have been doing a lot of healing through therapy and meditation. I have also started doing candle and gem/rock rituals that relate to my path I must walk and to that special person I am no longer with. I have not been playing any music during my rituals but I am curious to know if I did, is there any type of music that grounds the soul more than others?
I have deep roots to my native american heritage and have done many ceremonies and rituals involving traditional native music. Common sense tells me to stay within that realm of music because I am so attached to it and it does ground me a great deal but I am interested in trying new things .Any ideas?

Wed, September 27, 2006 - 7:32 AMdrumming can be a VERY powerful tool in grounding...it is directly related to the root chakra and is the first sound we feel/hear in the womb (mother's heartbeat).

Wed, September 27, 2006 - 11:38 AMSorry, I meant to reply sooner. Steve, I'm so sorry about your breakup. Music is SO powerful in evoking emotions. It sounds like the music you're using is the right music for you. Ritual or not, the music has to mean something to us for us to be able to connect with it and beyond it. Take Blackbyrd's advice on drumming as well, especially if you're of Native American heratige. My prof (who's also of Native heratige) once told us a story about how she went to a Native drumming circle with a hurt knee, and all the time she was drumming, the pain in her knee went away, then returned an hour after she stopped.
