I got an email from Rocky before she left.. she's off to Istanbul and Cairo, duckies in tow. :-)
I sure wish I was there this year!!
Next year.. it's on the calendar, and I'm saving for it now. I WILL get to Egypt next year, even if I have to quit my oh so comfy job to do it!
This is my foot being put down really hard... and on someone's head at my office if they don't give me the time off. LOL

Re: Ahlan Wa Sahlan
Wed, July 5, 2006 - 9:51 AMI got home last night from Ahlan wa Sahlan. I'm still recovering from the jet lag!
We had a great time in both Turkey and Egypt! Rocky certainly knows how to put a great tour together!
In Turkey, we saw three dance shows. The third one included a performance by the dancer who is currently Turkey's leading dancer, Asena. She was great! Unforuntately, I had to miss the second one because of food poisoning. It was weird - I had eaten lunch that day with Rocky, Saqra and Zora, and all four of us ordered exactly the same thing. I was the only one who got sick. Oh well, those who did go to the show told me that if I had to miss one, that was the one to miss. We also went one night to a restaurant that has performances by a live Turkish band, and we were able to get up and do our own social dancing to it. It was lots of fun!
In Egypt, I skipped the city tour that the rest of the group did because it was my fifth time in Egypt and I'd seen all the usual attractions three times before. So while they were off touring, I went costume shopping at Mahmoud's. It was frustrating, he didn't have anything I liked that fit me. I later learned that Lucy Smith (Scheherazade Imports) had been there just a couple of days before and had taken ALL the dresses in my size. No wonder I couldn't find anything! Harumph.
The only problem with accompanying Aunt Rocky on these tours is that she's so busy working and making sure everything is running smoothly for us that she doesn't have much time available for just relaxing and socializing with us. But I did get a little quality time with her, and enjoyed it very much, as always! -

Tue, July 11, 2006 - 10:23 AMAhlan wa Sahlan was awewome!
I so enjoyed seeing Rocky there.. and Saqra and Suhaila and Jasmine and Zahra.. wow... who am I forgetting? Shira I wish I would have figured out that was you! I would have loved to chat with you there. I have a short vid clip of you dancing with Mme Mazin opening night outside on the stairs.
No jet lag here... mine was bad getting there.
Cairo belly... yeah... that's what we call it....mine was the worst the last few days and then after I got home. Go figure?.
Hugz all around...
