Yasmeen el Qa'hira
was introduced to Mideastern dance in 1976, when she began to study it extensively. Of particular interest were the nuances of the culture and people of Egypt, so she cultivated her love for the music and dance of that particular region.

She became a member of the Benat Sharkien and Benat Nessma dance troupes, which presented Egyptian folkloric and contemporary choreography at venues such as The Ethical Culture Society, United Nations Theater, William Carlos Williams Center for the Performing Arts, the Egyptian-American Society of Virginia, Stephen Wise Theater
and The Starke Festival of the Arts.

Noted for her expressive style, she became a favorite soloist of the Egyptian/Arabic community performing at night clubs, weddings, cultural events and concerts on the East Coast as well as in France and Egypt & was the featured soloist for Al Arabi Newspaper functions for nearly a decade. She has been seen on WNBC's "Good Morning America and showcased regularly on Arab-AmericanTV both in New York and New Jersey.

In 2001 she began producing the "Alf Layla" hafla & talent showcases, presenting prominent artists in the tri-state area and also giving a venue for up and coming dancers. First in New Jersey, then at the Cleopatra in Brooklyn, NY, where she also managed and booked entertainment, the "Alf Layla" events found their home until it's closing in 2006. The "Alf Layla" events have now returned to New Jersey.

Yasmeen has been teaching the Egyptian style of Mideastern dance for over 15 years. Her love and devotion to the dance has inspired her students to not only master technique, but to utilize their emotions in expressing their individuality in the dance form.
