Can a catcher score, particularly if no skaters are available (all dead and/or out of subs)?
I guess it comes down to, can the glove be removed while in play?

Re: Rules question: can a catcher score?
Sun, January 28, 2007 - 5:42 PMHi Doug,
I believe the original rules stated that only one of the five 'Skaters' were eligible to attmpt to score. After fielding the ball the cather 'Must' pass the ball to a Skater. That seems to be apparent in the first 'Madrid' game from the film. It seems logical to me that in the event of no skaters being on track the Catchers could only prevent the opposition from scoring. This seems consistent with the flavour of the game as described by Bartholemew in his meeting with Johnathon during the executive party. However, I may be wrong. -

Re: Rules question: can a catcher score?
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 5:16 PMSpeculation is in order, so we can't really be wrong or right. :-) In the computer game the bikers have "learned" to roll over all the skaters early, ignoring the catchers (and the ball) altogether. After a game the score is usually enormously lopsided for one side - that side left protecting its last remaining skater!
We're not talking usual circumstances here - there's probably a good counterattack on the bikes unconsidered - but in that rare instance does anything prohibit a catcher from removing the glove and acting as skater/scorer?
I accept it as uncontroversial that a biker cannot score (or even handle the ball). But I suppose a biker could dismount in the dugout and take to the little wheels. In theory then the game could be played even down to mano a mano. -

Re: Rules question: can a catcher score?
Wed, January 31, 2007 - 7:06 PMBeen a while, great to see the game you are working on, when I have some time, I'm going to give it a go! To the topic at hand:
My assumption is that Catcher can score, but cannot use tansport and hold the ball at the same time, as it would "hide" the ball in the Catcher's glove. So as long as their not tagging along the bike, yes.
Also, form what I gather. Bikers are not allow to "hit" skaters and vice-versa... that is a penalty. They are there for accelerating skaters, and for resting. -

Thu, February 1, 2007 - 5:00 PMYeah, I took that penalty out of your game. :-)
In the scenario described the bikers spend most of their time in the early periods on penalty time in the dugout. Even if a skater runs into a bike the biker gets the penalty (but the skater gets the injury!). -

Tue, February 6, 2007 - 5:25 PMToo funny. I guess you will be building a modifer on what is a "hit" or not by a biker in the future.
