Pasha UPDATE

Last week, there was a fire to a neighboring buidling of Pasha's. The smoke from that fire caused Pasha to close for a month due to the damage it caused. The good news is that it is the perfect time for the new owners to update and remodel beautiful Pasha. The owners are working with some well respected designers, one from HGTV, and I am excited to see what they come up with. I will keep ya'll posted with the re-opening!!

The Murphys Belly Dance Festival over the weekend was a such a treat to observe. There was such great talent and many styles of belly dance among the performers. The finale performance by Kira and gang was fabulous- tribal meets stripping and burlesque! I loved it :)

Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance

I was inspired and I was sweaty after taking Sausan's Egyptian Pop class on Saturday. Whew, she really worked us.

Her studio is spacious and there are plenty of mirrors at various angles for all the dancers in the class to see themselves. The class was amazing. We danced to 3-4 pieces of music which was a breath of fresh air. I sometimes grow tired of my dance steps and it is so nice to have someone to follow to get inspired. And that is exactly what I got out of this class. Sausan pulls out some Egyptian moves that only her academy or a few others are familiar with or dare try. (I had an advantage keeping up since I took her 1st and 2nd semester courses.) I highly recomended stopping by her Saturday Pop class. You will learn some hot Egyptian moves!

SF Belly Dance Scene....

I love to see who the up and coming belly dancers are within the SF community. There are various videos out there who attempt to capture "SF belly dancers" but I have failed to see one that captures the dancers who are in the real scene; the dancers who are the Friday/Saturday night house dancers.

I'm thininking of Tina also known as Tahiya who dances every Friday at Pasha and who created the start of a new generation of belly dancers in the bay area. I'm thinking of Tabitha who is a hidden delight to see every Friday and Saturday night at marrakech- truley a beautiful dancer. I'm thinking of Marcela who dances Sundays at Pacha Mama and who is entertaining and enjoyable to watch. You haven't been exposed to the heart of SF belly dance until you visit these places to see our generation of belly dancers at work!

Fellow Dancer In Need

Hey guys,

I just moved to the city last week into a temporary sublet that has become even more short term than was disclosed.... and I'm having a really hard time finding a place for my boyfriend, myself, and our two really well behaved cats. Craigslist has been a little bit a helpful, but is mostly full of cutthroat crazies. If you hear of any leads please pass it on. I need a home or else I'll be living in my car...somewhere in west Oakland....fighting off the crack heads with a Buck knife....oh gawd.

We need a good sized bedroom, closets, and potentially a bonus room/office/2nd smaller bedroom. As I said I'm a bellydancer and also a painter/photographer/art student at SFSU this fall, and my boyfriend is a DJ/graphic designer. The cats are unemployed but will purr for pets:o)

We can spend about 1200 a month on rent. And need something fast, like August 1st. Please help. I need it :o(

I posted this question on another tribe and thought I'd open up the advice line on this tribe...

Any remmedies for a pulled muscle in the hip? Yes this is true. I first did it about 3 years ago. I went to the doctor and he told me there was nothing to be done but to ice it then apply a heating pad. It took three months to heal!

And now it has happened again- about 4 weeks ago. It doesn't hurt while I'm dancing, (of course not with all the adrenaline flowing), oh but the next couple of days I feel it with every step I take. Yes, I'm a bad patient and don't follow doctors orders to take it easy until fully recovered. But has this happened to any else?

Pasha Restaurant in San Francisco...

Being the Premier and Saturday night dancer at Pasha Restaurant I thought I'd clear up some rumors that are floating around. Yes Pasha was sold. The old owner is slowly fading out as the new ones slowly enter. The new owners you might recognize. Hisham, a previous chef at Pasha restaurant has become part owner with his brother and his brother's wife. The new establishment has some neat and creative ideas about how to make Pasha the stand in line to get in place, just like it use to be! I am very excited about the new owners coming on board just as I'm sad to see it leave Jalal's hands. I've been performing at Pasha Restaurant with Jalal and Yousef for 5 years and counting. It has been a blast! The live music and belly dancing will continue with the new owners.
