GPS stolen on Sunday.

topic posted Wed, May 7, 2008 - 11:41 AM by  Chastity
Sunday evening, my GPS was taken from my car in the participant lot...

If someone has it, please return it to the Puritan hooch, no questions asked... or mail it to the "home" address programmed into the device. I really need it, I am lost without it (literally)....

Thanks :(

you need to report this to the police too. Apparently we've had a LOT of vehicle break in's this year and the cops don't know most of them because they don't get reported.

We had people in different parts of the parking lot 'checking' door handles. Don't leave ANYTHING valueable in your car at faire EVER and make sure (check 3 times) that things are locked up and not visible!!

They are stepping up security and doing what they can to protect us but there is only so much they can do. Help them by policing yourself.

Not to mention that every convertible in the lot on Saturday night reportedly had their tops slashed.

And we need to remember that we are not the only ones with access to our parking lots. While they are "participant lots", they are easily within reach of everyone. No matter how much we may love and trust one another, there are many, many others out there.

Not to mention that if patrons get to site early enough, they are being parked with the participants.

I think they are getting parked there later as well.

I noticed a man and his daughter wandering behind my car when I left on Sunday. (I left early because of my new job).

Trying to be helpful I asked him what time he had gotten there. While I can't remember the exact time, I do know it was *definitely* not early.

I let him know that he was probably not in the correct area, because he was in the participants lot. He assured me that he had parked nearby.

I did notice however a great number of car parked up close to tourney, so he could have been wandering that way.

That was about the convertible tops.

          Everything else sucks too!

Well again people ... report any damage, breakins and theft to the police. We have an outpost on site and they said most of what has been going on was news to them. I talked to them first hand when they rolled up into the St. Michaels parking and scared the living crap out of me as I was checking my things in the truck. They said that they rarely hear about any break in's or thefts. Even if it's something small - you need to report it so they know there is a problem.
They said this to me five times. So I think it's somewhat important to stress and re-stress.

Be sure to put anything and everything that could be pawnable - even for a few bucks (CD's, Ipods, keys, change) - into your trunk or in non-visible spots. MAKE SURE your car is locked.

They did say that patrolls were being stepped up after reports came from several different lots regarding guys on bicycles that were 'checking' car doors. I was also told that was part of the reason for the frackin helicopter on Sunday last week as well - watching for suspicious people in the parking areas.
We had a lot of party goers in the reguarl part of the park that were celebrating cinco de mayo on Sunday because they had to work on Monday. That was probably ALSO a good reason why so much happened.

Take a moment to look around your car and ensure it's not an inviting target for desperate jerks and know that faire is taking extra steps to ensure the safety of our vehicles.

Adrienne's right. They were stepping up security in the parking lots because of reports of car break-ins & vandalism. I talked to two of the roving Irwindale PoPo's. Since I speak fluent 10-code, they were telling me about all the "interesting" patrons we've had. Suffice it to say that they know about it, they're trying to stop it, if not at least "discourage" it by being a presence in the lots, but there's only so many of them, and they can't be everywhere. The safety of faire personnel & patrons takes precidence over property so take Adrienne's advice and lock valuables out of sight, and be sure to double, nay, triple check that your car is locked.

Besides, if a theif REALLY wants to take something, he/she won't be above smashing a window to get it. Use common sense & don't make it easy for them!

I know Cat's vehicle is extremely well ventolated!

Cooper or any other dog could happily hang out there and get all the fresh air he requires. She'd just need to be sure it was properly stocked with food and water and his lead is long enough for him to hop out to do his business.

PLEASE do not leave animals in your vehicles.

                    PLEASE.

seriously upset the Parking Crew and then all of ES is seriously upset and that leads to the local IPD being upset and we don't even want to discuss what it does to the Life Guards ...

No joke, we take pets in cars very seriously, along with the effort to prevent parking lot theft.

I know you all were joking about leaving pets in cars (I think I remember some previous posts about Cat raising dogs... ?), but just to kill the subject BEFORE it gets too far. It can now be a felony to leave an animal locked in a car. Ex-spouses, however, don't count!

Yes, I was kidding, but some people think, "Good idea!"

BTW, Animal Control and/or Police have the authority to SMASH out a window to free an animal or child locked inside a vehicle. Security may also if it is a child, or if the animal is in shock or heat stroke. Then we get into tickets, licensing, CPS, jail, bail, AND the cost to replace the window.

Not really worth it, is it?
