Danse Macabre?

topic posted Sun, May 4, 2008 - 10:42 PM by  Adrienne
So whats the deal with these guys? Last year they would show up at the back end of faire and like a lot of other 'street performing groups' ..... I havent seen hide nor hair of them. It's not like I cant see the street. We have a very narrow spot in front of the Inn at St. Mikes. If groups come by doing something, I see them.

Again .... there IS a back area to this faire.....

Oh AND! .....

Hooray for the Puritans for wandering to the back to harass the crowds in Horse Tourney!!!!

Actually, they're playing back there as the Ad Hoc Consortium....on the music stage. I know, it's not the same, but they do get back there...just not as bones...

They travel around, mainly towards the front of faire, as Danse Macabre. They must not go all the way back. I have two friends in the troupe, I'll ask next time I see them.

a few people in St. Mikes were discussing that they had not been seen this year at all. Normally, I guess, they wander by or through or something.

          Was just curious.

They'll still be at the final battle to pull people away, just wait, it's a really cool final battle gig.

We did come by the first couple days of the season for our second parade, but we ended up having to change our route. As I recall, these were the reasons: 1) With the Celts' reduced backstage area this year, we were not able to find a convenient place to take our mid-parade break. (And believe me, that break is necessary. Otherwise the dancers would drop on even medium-hot days.) 2) There is a bottleneck area in front of the stage by Jazla's that is very difficult for us to get through, particularly because we try to always go silent by occupied stages. I'm sorry that we're not coming back there every day (not that it was my decision or anything :) ) but we do have valid reasons.

In all fairness, I have always had trouble negotiating my way through the bottleneck of the Trader's Market area of the Faire. The road narrows, the crowd thickens, and the feel of the crowd. . . changes. . . somehow. Even when I can walk, I get back there maybe once a year.

They are taking their break at Ale 1 in the morning and sometime later in the day. We try to make them welcome - we are all family and in honor of the dead shirt my husband got back in the day of "In video mortis" or I see dead people. I have to make sure we are covered for them.
      Love that shirt!

please remember as you dance by The Well, you can always get cooled down... we can time it correctly so you don't have to stop dancing.

As X-GM of DM, I feel compelled to say....

Please be VERY careful of the instruments! Some are glued together...yah, even the expensive ones.

As a former member of DM, a little reminder: We like having the Danse. They are a blessing. Dancing with them is GOOD luck for you. They're helping lead evil spirits/ Death away from our town. They are not evil, death incarnate, demons, or anything else like that. Please let the patrons see you being eager to interact with them, and the nice folks from DM will greatly appreciate it. I try to catch them every morning as they pass the May Pole just after our morning wrap, and dance with all the dancers on one side. Then I shout thanks after them for blessing us. They can't talk to tell their story, so it's up to us (as other participants) to explain it so that customers aren't scared by them.

And yelling, "Bring out your dead!" is insanely predictable and only remotely amusing the first time.

Also, just about every parade, there's a participant or two who think it's incredibly funny to attempt to block our parade by standing in the middle of the streets and refusing to move. You know who you are, and you're not witty in the least. You're effing annoying. /end rant

But yeah, like Sara said. Play with us! We likes it. One of the cutest things I've seen so far was a little girl in the kid's area shouting, "Take me home!" and waving her arms like mad. I wanted to run up and give her a big old bear hug.

It's really not funny for any participant (guild, stage, or booth) to block ANY parade. Or run across the street immediately in front of (or through the middle of) a parade. It's a hazard, especially when the paraders are in masks with limited vision.

Jose, can we report people that do that? And they'll get in trouble?
