When I met Ruben

Dearest Ruben,

I met you one year ago at Tribal Café and I’ve never been the same. Your drumming and musical skill is only exceeded by your sparkling smile. We spent only a few moments together, yet you are constantly in my thoughts. Perhaps it is because I listen to your CDs all the time, try to emulate your magic fingers, and hope that one day I can drum like you, even in the slightest way. I have etched your words into my mind from your class and the private suggestions you gave me. I replay the video recorded in my head of you drumming to absorb every detail of your technique. I sadly do not practice enough, but if it were for wishing to be like you; you’d already have a Mini-Me following you around like a puppy.

I was so excited the last time we spoke, I proposed to you. Just live with me and teach me; and I would take care of your every need. This was my dream. Yes I am utterly smitten. Luckily this doesn’t bother my wife so much, she understands completely.

So as we approach this year’s Tribal Café, I reflect upon these things. And if you ever want to live in Southern California to escape the Nordic winter chill – let me know to look for a bigger house.

I adore you, but I think you knew that already.

Pre-Order the New Solace CD, NAGARI

Hello Everyone!

The new Solace CD is available for pre-order now! Order "Nagari" and receive a 10% discount until September 12, 2006. You can visit the online store and reserve your copy:

http://secure.infinities.com/commerce/empcds/onlinestore/main.cfm

Here's a little descript:
"Jeremiah M. Soto has spent the last 6 years constructing and composing what is now called Nagari. It is a mirror into the heart and mind of his pain, struggles, and revelations. Jeremiah’s goal was to produce a CD that was more “human” and not so polished and perfect. Nagari’s raw and organic sound is attributed to Tim Rayborn’s virtuoso string playing, Ruben van Rompaey’s heart felt and driving percussion, and Kate St. Pierre’s powerful, soulful vocals, only to be topped off by Jeremiah’s orchestral layering arrangements. Nagari is by far Solace’s most intriguing and anticipated releases on EMP, harking back to the days of Shawaza and The Gathering Season."

A tentative release date is August 19 at Tribal Cafe. We are hoping to have it then, but rest assured, if it is not, we will continue to take pre-orders and your CD will be shipped as it becomes available.

The artwork was painted and put together by Daniel M. Diaz of Blind Divine. Check out his beautiful artwork and music:
Listen to the new track, "End of Religion" on Myspace:
Thank you to all who have contirbuted to Nagari, it was worth the wait!!

I just wanna say that I had quite a pleasant weekend in Manchester watching Ruben perform! He is such an amazing talent and really impressed some peeps here in the U.K. We did an improv drum solo together and it was more fun than I have had in a long time! Hope we get to see you back in the U.S. again soon and tell your dad I said hi!!!!

Pimp Name--just for Tim

Hey All!

Princess Farhana just forwarded me this fantastic pimp name generator:

http://www.playerappreciate.com/pimphandle.asp

If you click the button multiple times, you keep getting different names. Some of my favorites are:

Devious Honey Slide
Ice Master Blue
Tricktickler Shmooove

Even more amusing are the names I came up with for Tim (for some reason it was more fun to use his name.

Papa Rayborn Wicked
President Rayborn Flex
Sugartastic Rayborn Jazz

and my personal favorite (its sooooo Sunday morning in Baptist church)

Deacon Doctor Rayborn Fresh

What now?!

Recommendations for practicing percussionist

I've a tribe friend who asked for music recommendation for practicing percussion for belly dancing. He has Baka Beyond, Afro Celts, Manu Dibango... would like other ideas, sounds like he's interested in some of the more traditional stuff. Tim, would any of Susu's recordings be good for that, and Mary Ellens? Your own cds?

Ruben, what about you? This one?

http://www.eventidemusicproductions.com/artists.html
Ruben van Rompaey - rubenvanrompaey.nl One day, I received a package from Holland. I opened the package and discovered a CD-Rom and letter saying: "My name is Ruben van Rompaey, drums/percussion The Netherlands. At the moment I'm searching for an interested record label to release the album "Eastern Expressions" which I've included within this package, containing modern style groovy Oriental percussion pieces. I'd be very interested to release it as an album at Eventide Productions". After listening to the first 2 minutes of this remarkable masterpiece, I called him long distance and told him how blown away I was with the quality and performance on this disc. I was considering releasing a Rhythm Of The Dance; Part 2. Well, needless to say, I didn't have to! EMP can now say, we have our own Hossam Ramzy, enter Ruben van Rompaey.

I invited my friend to join this tribe and inquire... just getting the ball rolling. ~Lisa
