Hello Charlottesville Hoopers!

In response to ongoing requests for more classes (thank y'all!) I have
been trying for over a month to find a place to host an indoor hoopshop
in this town and, finally, found the spot! I am being allowed to guest-
teach at Zabor Dance Studio on the downtown Mall. This playshop will be
held on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2:30-4 pm. The studio is behind Live Arts
and is accessed through the door to the old Atomic Burrito and up the
stairs. Space is limited for this, and I am capping attendance at 10
people. I want us to be able to enjoy ourselves learning in this new
space with enough room to move. Given that space is limited, and taking
into consideration the rental fee, the cost of this workshop is raised
to $20. In return for the slightly raised rate, however, I am seeking
to offer a more densely-packed session of hoopgnosis than I have ever
laid down for y’all before…because I know you’re ready, and wanting to
take your already fabulous hooping to the next level. Read on for
what’s in store

I am not going to be around as much this spring, in what is becoming an
increasingly bi-coastal existence, so I wanted to have a session with
those of you that have attended before (as well as new folks and friends
you might want to bring) that- along with some review- would focus
heavily on introducing new skills in working off of the core that will
move you towards proficiency with two hoops. In that spirit, I’ve
decided to focus this upcoming hoopshop on lots of off-body vertical
work, isolations, passing in front and behind the body, weaving and
working toward those poi moves that just look so cool ;-). We will go
through exercises and specific instruction to facilitate smooth planes
and crisp reverses off-body that allow for a greater range of hoop
motion and more possibilities for punctuation the beat of the music to
give your hoop flow a more dynamic look and feel.

I have been really enjoying a new style of hoop lately and had an
epiphany during last night’s practice that I am going to start providing
these style of hoops (smaller, lighter half-inch diameter) for my
intermediate level classes where I am teaching off-body work. I will
have a slew of these available for this class and look forward to
sharing these skills with you all.

Since attendance is capped at 10 and I don’t want to turn folks away
only to have pre-registered folks not show up, I would greatly
appreciate those of you who want attend pre-paying through my hoopstore.
