So I have decided to have some fun with the Bardic circle this year at Sunfest. I thought that it would be fun to crate a song book and have fun singing them with all of you. When it comes to the Bardic circle at Sunfest we are ...not ... at all limited with what is in the song book. I'm hoping to see all kinds of other contribution's.
I have been having just the best time looking for Sun related songs, poems and stories. I have a whole list of stuff. A lot of Sun related things but they are not all sun related. Larry got me on a tangent... I have searched the internet high and low looking for the rest of the lyrics to " if you are happy and you know it rub my leg" but I'm having a hard time finding them. Would any of you know what they are or where to find them? If you do... please would you share with me.
But lets not let it stop there... why don't you share any of the camp songs that you know and if I think it will work I can add it to the song book. You don't have to share if you don't want to, you could surprise us with it at festival site. But you might find me asking you if i could have a copy to add to the song book for next year.
So think back to OutDoor School or Summer Camp or Cook outs or family camping trips. Think back and try to remember what song you sang. Songs that were silly, done in rounds, echo or what ever. Check and see if you can sing it and remember all the words, at the same time. May be you will think about sharing ...or .... maybe not.
Let me see what you have.....

Re: Sunfest Song Book
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 11:09 PMThis is an awesome song I learned Sunday night of Beltaine after most had left and there were only a few of us at the fire. Some woman whose name i never got taught us this one:
Together we will fly away
fly to where the trees grow
Together we will fly away
fly to where the river flows
Together we will fly away
fly to where the ocean goes
Together we will fly away
fly to the land of rainbows
Mama carry me
your child I will always be
Mama carry me
back to the trees
back to the trees
The river is flowing
flowing and growing
The river is flowing
back to the sea
Mother carry me
your child I will always be
Mother carry me
back to the sea
back to the sea
The Sun He is rising
setting and rising
The Sun He is rising
deep in my heart
Father Sun shine down on me
your child I will always be
Father Sun shine down on me
deep in my heart
deep in my heart
The Moon She is waiting
waxing and waning
The Moon She is waiting
till we are free
Sister Moon shine down on me
your child I will always be
Sister Moon shine down on me
till we are free
till we are free -

Re: Sunfest Song Book
Mon, May 26, 2008 - 1:02 PMAmazing grace, how sweet the Earth
that bore a witch like me!
I once was burned, now I survive,
was hung and now I sing.
T’was grace that drew down the moon
and grace that raised the seas.
The magic in the people’s will
will set our Mother free.
We face the East and breathe the winds
that move across this earth.
From gentle breeze to hurricane
our breath will bring forth the change.
Turn towards the South and feel the fire
that burns in you and me.
The spirit’s flame will rise again
and burn eternally.
We greet the West, our souls awash
in tides of primal birth.
Our tears and blood, our pain and love
will cleanse and heal the earth.
Reach into the North and know your roots
down deep ancestral caves.
We find the wisdom of the Crone,
Of circles we are made.
Amazing earth, enduring life,
from death into rebirth.
T’is earth I am and earth I love
and earth I’ll always be.
Amazing grace, how sweet the Earth
that bore witches like we.
We once were burned, now we survive,
were hung and now we sing.
Goddess bless, so mote it be,
Our magic spirals on.
Merry meet and merry part
and merry meet again. -

Re: Sunfest Song Book
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 11:05 AMI like the idea of selling them, but I don't know if we would have the ability to make that many in time for Sunfest. However if people are willing to purchase them then we could always get their info and make copies at a later date. What do you think Mrs. Byrd? Do you think that would be possible? -

Re: Sunfest Song Book
Thu, May 29, 2008 - 12:08 PMhow about we all try to locate some Reclaiming songs for the collection, as well?
By that i mean the songs often heard at open Rituals with the Reclaiming pagans (Starhawk's kids)

Tue, July 8, 2008 - 9:48 AMIf you don't want that song to sound like the Xtian version, sing it to the tune of "Gilligan's Island."
