Hello everyone,

Due to the poor air quality and extreme heat, I've decided to cancel the meet up this friday, on the 11th. I'll see you all next week on the 18th, same time, same place!
Friday Night McKinley Meet-Ups

So last friday night (6/20) was the first meet up, and I was so glad that so many people were able to attend and hoop for a few hours in the heat! Hopefully this friday will be a little cooler so that there will be more people walking around in the park.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, I had a great time, and I hope you all did too. Hope to see you next week, same time, same place.

To everyone who wasn't able to make it, we're meeting at McKinley Park near the corner of McKinley and Alhambra, by the shady trees.

Happy Hooping!

McKinley Park Meet-Ups and new downtown area classes

Hello again Hoopers!

I've been talking with friends who live downtown, and they seemed to like the idea of a weekly meet up on Friday nights form 7-9pm at McKinley park (601 Alhambra Blvd) so I'm going to start bringing bringing out the hoops in hopes of building the hooping community in Sacramento starting mid-June. The first meet up will most likely by Friday, June 13th, so I hope to see many of you there! I'll be providing some hoops, but bring your own if you can!

Also, if any of you are interested in taking HoopGirl classes, check out my website: http://www.bloomhoops.com/Site/Classes.html as I have a new class scheduled in Capitol Park (15th and N) which starts at 6 pm (even though the website incorrectly says 5:30pm) on Thursdays from June 12th till July 17th. If you're interested, please email me to sign up, as spots are filling fast!

Hope all is well, and happy hooping!
Peace,
Allie

Hello Hoopers,

I've had a proposal from a friend of mine to hold classes and jam sessions/meet-ups at McKinley Park on either thursday or friday nights. How many of you would be interested in these times, days and location?

It wouldn't be starting immediately, but I would love to get the meet-ups going again so that we can have a fun filled hooping summer and prepare for World Hoop Day 888.

Let me know what you all think, and if you have any other suggestions for different times/location/days for meet ups or classes, send me a PM or leave a comment here!

Peace,
Allie

Just wanted to remind you lovely hoopers that this weekend, (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) May 9-11th is Whole Earth Festival on the UC Davis quad. I'll be out there alllllllll weekend long with my hoops for playing, hoops for sale and custom order forms in case you'd like to get your hands on a special hoop that I don't have with me at the moment.

Also, I've got a free 1 hour "Intro to Hooping" workshop at the Dynamic Education Station from 6-7pm on Saturday, and I'll be performing at sometime during the day (time to be announced, most likely between 2 and 3pm) on Saturday as well.

Hope to see you out there, it should be a great three days of sun, fun, and relaxation!

Just sending a big fat hug to all the Sac hoopers, all the way from the mountains. Since I've moved, the only thing I miss about Sac is the easy access to the hooping community ( and club Faces of course) & look forward to coming down soon to spin in the sunshine!

Hope to see the old faces again, and the new ones too! Much love in the hoop!

Anyone interested in moderating this tribe?

Hey all you Sacrament-area hoopers. I took over moderating duties of this tribe after finishing school last summer.. thinking I would have the time needed to do it well.

But alas, I’ve discovered that working full-time is actually more time consuming than graduate school.. and I’m not giving this group the attention I think tribe members want or need.

So, is there anyone out there interested in taking over moderating duties? It would take some pressure off me.. and allow me to join in hooping jams when I have the time.

Let me know.. and we’ll move forward.

Thanks!

A great place to hoop... Burningman equanox party sponserd by Captain Chuck and Zoom Zoom

Are there many DSC people in the Sacramento area? We are having a bit of a party to celebrate the start of Burning Man projects, Kinetic Sculptures, Fire Art, and all the things that seem to take up our time in the Spring. Here are the details:

Six months has passed, leaving six months until Burning Man 2008 and we all migrate back to the Black Rock Desert. To celebrate Spring, longer days, warmer nights, and the anticipation of another year of projects, costumes, and planning Camp Inspiratum will host a party to bring us all together and share a bit of the inspiration that we all seem to find in each other.

Friday, February 22nd at Laboratorium Inspiratum Captain Chuck and Zoom Zoom will open the doors of their shop and welcome in all Burners old, new, jaded, hopeful, or otherwise. We provide the place, the lights, the stereo and you bring your costumes, some food, some drink, and we can all bring in the second half of the year together. Laboratorium Inspiratum is where our camp gets together to work, build, make costumes, build art cars, and socialize. This is the first of many Friday nights we will spend toiling away on projects so come help us kick it off!

Where: South Side Park, Sacramento

Let's try out this outdoor option and see how things go. We'll meet at South Side Park in Sacramento between T and W off of 6th street. Here's a link to a google map:

The tennis courts are right off of 6th street next to the playground... and you can park on the street.

I don't have a working portable cd or ipod player.. so if you have one.. can you bring it?

Hope to see you there!

Possible Outdoor Space for November

So I have an idea of a possible outdoor space for our winter meetings.. and it would be free. There is a great park near downtown Sacramento right off Highway 50 at 6th and U streets called "Southside Park." They have two large tennis courts with nightime lights.

I'm thinking that if it's not raining.. and people don't mind the cool weather.. there probably isn't a lot of tennis playing going on at 6pm on Fridays.. so this could be a free option. I've actually played tennis on these courts before.. and the lights are fantastic.

Besides.. the weather really hasn't gotten too chilly yet.. and I do enjoy hooping in crisp weather.

Let me know what you think.. and if you all are into it.. we can try it for our November meeting.

The tennis courts are right off of 6th street next to the playground. Here is a link to the city's map.

Thursday nights in Davis

Hey Hoopers,

I bet this has been posted before, maybe even by me, but...

Come out to Thursday night spin jams in Davis! Fire University, a collection of freaks, pyros and spinsters, meets c. 9 pm on Thursdays in downtown Davis. Our time with float earlier as the fall progresses. We get together in the public square between F and E and 3rd and 4th weekly and have music, space, a fire permit etc. If you want to burn, bring your own fuel. But you don't need to do fire to come and spin your heart out. Just bring your hoop, lights if you have them, and come out to play.

I'll be out there more regularly this fall than I was in the summer, hopefully every week. Hope to see you too!

Rain Friday and Indoor option starting next month

The forecast is calling for rain tomorrow... I was planning on bringing my son and one of his friends.. but if it's raining, we will not be there. I hope others decide to go though.. I think it would be fun to hoop in the rain.

I have been researching indoor venues for possible meeting places starting next month, but price may be an issue. So far, the least expensive option I have come up with is to rent a room at the Coloma Community Center in Sacramento. The rate is $30/hour though.. so if we reserve it for 2 hours, we're looking at $60. We put a deposit on the room as well.. which I'm willing to do.

Here's a description from their Web site:
Rescue Room: Dance and Ballet room only. This room features a mirrored wall and ballet bars. Contains storage nook and faucet.

* Square Footage: 900
* Distinguishing features: Full wall mirror, ballet bar.

Any input from the group would be greatly appreciated.

Hoop Meeting This Friday October 12th

Hey Sacramento hoopers.. are you ready for our October meeting?

It's starting to get dark earlier, so I think we should start a little earlier at 5:30... but come whenever you can. I still don't have a portable CD player, so if you have one, please bring it.

Vitals:
When: Friday October 12th
Time: 5:30pm
Location: Land Park, Sacramento

Here are two possible ways to get there:

1)Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
You will see a sign directing you to Riverside Blvd. to the right
Turn right toward Riverside . (this road will curve you around a half circle so you will be heading south on Riverside .)
Turn right on 12th Avenue
You can park anywhere along the street. We will be hooping near the children’s playground and basketball court labeled g-19 on this map:

http://cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/parks/sites/land_map.htm

2) Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
Turn Left at Land Park Drive (it is a stop light)
Turn Left at 14th Ave. (it is a stop sign)
Curve Right onto 13th street .

You will see the playground with a little white house with green shutters, the kiddie pool (It looks like a big blue mushroom), and the basketball courts. It is labeled G-19 on this map:
http://cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/parks/sites/land_map.htm

You can park anywhere along the street.

This is a big park.. so if you get lost, just ask someone where the kid's playground and wading pool is.. most people that hang out there would likely know.

Need Music Maker for Friday Meeting

Hello Tribe. I'm really looking forward to our meeting Friday evening at land park. There is one small issue though.. my portable cd player is busted and we may be forced to use a car stereo system. That is of course unless someone wants to volunteer to bring their music maker!!

Joy has brought her portable cd player in the past, but I haven't heard from her.. so I don't know if she'll be able to be there. If anyone has a cd player they can donate to the cause, it would be much appreciated. Here are details again:

Where: Land Park, Sacramento
When: Friday Sept. 14th, 6pm
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00ish

It turns out my husband has a school meeting on Friday evening.. so I'll be bringing my 4-year-old son, Daniel. If anyone else has children.. Daniel would love to have a playmate.

I do have a few extra hoops that I will bring. I hope to see lots of you there.
Hoop Session Friday Sept. 14th

It has been suggested that we regularly schedule our meeting time so it’s easier for people to plan (Thanks Leah!) So, since next Friday the 14th is the second Friday of the month, I propose we regularly meet on the second Friday.

Here is a list of dates:
September 14th
October 12th
November 9th
December 14th

For September and October we can meet at Land Park. Once we get into November we’ll have daylight issues, so I can investigate an indoor meeting place. It may require that people who want to attend pay a small fee.

I hope to see many of you next Friday (Sept. 14th) at 6:00pm. Here are directions to the park:

Here are two possible ways to get there:
1)Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
You will see a sign directing you to Riverside Blvd. to the right
Turn right toward Riverside . (this road will curve you around a half circle so you will be heading south on Riverside .)
Turn right on 12th Avenue
You can park anywhere along the street. We will be hooping near the children’s playground and basketball court labeled g-19 on this map:

http://www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/parks/sites/pdf/land_map.pdf

2) Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
Turn Left at Land Park Drive (it is a stop light)
Turn Left at 14th Ave. (it is a stop sign)
Curve Right onto 13th street .

You will see the playground with a little white house with green shutters, the kiddie pool (It looks like a big blue mushroom), and the basketball courts. It is labeled G-19 on this map:
http://www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/parks/sites/pdf/land_map.pdf

You can park anywhere along the street.

This is a big park.. so if you get lost, just ask someone where the kid's playground and wading pool is.. most people that hang out there would likely know.

Hey Sacramento Area hoopers.. where are you?

I'll take it by the lack of response to my previous post that no one is interested in getting together to hoop this Friday.

Let's try for next Friday Sept. 14th.

Please respond here if you think you can make it.

Hoop On!

Stay Updated with your Tribes

It has been suggested that I send a mass email to everyone when a meeting is coming up. I’ve investigated that possibility and because of privacy issues, I don’t think there’s a way to send an email to everyone in the tribe at the same time. I would have to send messages to each individual member.. which I don’t have time to do and some might find annoying.

If you find you’re missing out on information, I would suggest you change your tribe settings to receive digest emails. Here’s how to do it:

•	Once you’ve logged into tribe.net, click on the “Hoop til it hurts Sacramento” tribe
•	From the main page, you will see a photo on the upper left with tabs under it. The “post a new topic” is highlighted orange.
•	Click on the fourth tab labeled “tribe settings”
•	You can select to receive tribe alerts, a daily digest email of postings, a weekly digest email of postings, or subscribe to the rss feed.
•	Once you’ve made your selections, click the orange “submit” button at the bottom right to update your profile.

The digest emails will come to the email address you provided when registering on tribe. You can do this for all, some, or none of your tribe subscriptions.

Hope this information helps to keep you informed!

I hope you all can come out to enjoy some hoop time.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to announce the switch in Moderators. Andi is now the new Modertor for this tribe & I feel a great one! She organized a fun & very successful meet a couple of weeks ago which I had a ton of fun at! I look forward to returning to Sac area for the next one! Thanks Andi for taking the time to keep our tribe going & putting in the effort which allows us to hoop with one another.

I will cherish my trips back into the area to see you all monthly.

much love & hoopiness,

hooping resources

At our last meeting, some of you asked for information on supplies to make hoops. Here are some resources:

I buy tubing online from US Plastics. There are two different widths 1” and 3/4”.. These are 100 psi, which is fairly light weight.. so you might need to put water or sand inside to weight it down, or use several layers of tape. Here is the Web site and the product codes. I usually buy 10 to 12 connectors for each 100 foot roll:

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/default.asp

24312 - 3/4" 100 psi $22.55
24313 - 1" 100 psi $32.33

24402 - 3/4" connector $0.42
24403 - 1" connector $0.49

(You can also sometimes find the tubing at home depot, lowes, and plumbing stores.. but I’ve had trouble recently finding it in stock, so I’ve just started ordering it.)

Tape for decorating your hoops:
http://www.identi-tape.com/links.html

Step by step instructions on how to make a hoop:
http://www.jasonunbound.com/hoops.html

(Jason uses a hair dryer to heat up the ends of the hoop to insert the connector, but I like to dip my ends in boiling water. It’s very fast and easy.)

Great hooping resources:
http://www.hooping.org/

Within hooping tribe, there’s a great thread with everything you’ll ever want to know about hooping from how to make one, how to decorate one, and tips on tricks:

I had a fantastic time reconnecting with some of you and meeting others for the first time at our hoop meet tonight. Thanks to all who came out to enjoy a lovely evening of spinning.

We have decided to meet at the park once a month.. and Fridays seem to work well with everyone. If we decide that once a month just isn't enough.. we can expand on that in the future... and of course we'll have to make adjustments once the time changes and it gets too cold.. but we'll figure that out later.

Keep checking back to get details of our next meeting....

Peace

Hoop Meet This Friday 8-10

Hello Sacramento area hoopers!

It’s short notice.. but we’re trying to organize a hoop session for this Friday, and we’d love to get a big group together. Here are the vitals:

Date: Friday August 10th
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00 ish
Where: William Land Park in Sacramento

Both Leah and I have been communicating and we both have malfunctioning boom boxes.. so if anyone has one with a cd player that works.. please bring it. I have extra hoops and music that I will bring as well.

This area of the park is close to a bathroom and a water fountain so it is ideal. We hope to see lots of you there!

We will be hooping near the children’s playground and basketball court labeled g-19 on this map:

www.cityofsacramento.org/parks...ap.htm

2) Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
Turn Left at Land Park Drive (it is a stop light)
Turn Left at 14th Ave. (it is a stop sign)
Curve Right onto 13th street .

You will see the playground with a little white house with green shutters, the kiddie pool (It looks like a big blue mushroom), and the basketball courts. It is labeled G-19 on this map:
www.cityofsacramento.org/parks...ap.htm

You can park anywhere along the street.

This is a big park.. so if you get lost, just ask someone where the kid's playground and wading pool is.. most people that hang out there would likely know.

Looking forward to connecting with some of you!

Took a break & learned a lesson...

Can you believe I didn't touch my hoop for a 3-week period?!!! No im not injured. No, i haven't lost my hoop groove. Um, well maybe I've lost my mind a little , but I really got so engrossed with life lately, I had no energy to hoop!

So 2 days ago I picked up my hoop & took it into the sunshine and started grooving. God! It fealt amazing! My fingers & legs began to tingle and my heart rate shot through the roof. I even got a cramp in my stomach, which was a sign that I was doing something my body wasn't used to! Are you kidding me?!

Hooping again was a truly amazing experience! I learned a new trick in the first 15 minutes, got inspiration for atleast two new hoop acts & ended up nice & soar about an hour later. It's like i had never put it down.

So, a few things became apparent after my lovely re-uniting with my hoop. I learned that I should not beat myself up like i do, If i dont get in the hoop everyday, that taking a short break can give practicing a fresh feel. ( not to say my 3 week pause was anything like a short break) I also learned that stretching is really important after such a long break; I slightly pulled a muscle in the soal of my foot somehow. Hey what can I say, I was excited!

Most importantly, I learned that I am truly blessed to have found something so enriching, that I absolutely love to do & that I should put up more of a fight when life's kaos threatens to destract me. Getting into my hoop is my sanity, my grounding tool, my centering point. My tool should be used to bring me back from being overwhelmed by all the complicated tasks in life that don't matter as much as how happy I am when I'm dancing. I've found that creative expression allows the soul to soar & we are truly in our essence when we dance freely, laugh wildly, and sing without inhibition. My hoop is the tool i use to transcend all things mundane, taxing or stressful; so i will never be too busy to hoop again because I can never be too busy to be Truly Happy.

I live to make love with my hoop, make music with my hips & spin till my hearts' content.

Be well,
~Mayhem

I would like to ask each of you to visit the World Hoop Day Tribe ( worldhoopday.tribe.net ) & read about this tribes wonderful philosophy, goals & efforts (if you haven't already) and then try to think of a place in the Sacramento area you would like to meet with me to celebrate the hoop & all the positive things it symbolizes, in observance of the World Hoop Day Holiday!

I have a few ideas of locations and am open to suggestions. I would like to meet in a place where we can interact with the people & children of our communities at 7am & 7pm if possible. I know we will have beautiful weather to support our gatherings so all it will take is us & our hoops!

I will also be either making or buying some child-size hoops to give away & allow other children to hoop with & encourage any kind of contribution in anyway from you to make this a great day in the sun with hoops to inspire all!

Please message me or Hooping Annie O' at the World Hoop Day Tribe with any questions & remember, World Hoop Day is on Saturday 07/07/07. Come together, Come celebrate, Come Give back!

I wanted to say hello & welcome all the new people who have joined H.T.I.H tribe over the past few weeks! It's great to see us grow, whenever we do!

There has been a long pause in meets or hoop events for our tribe as I , the events organizer have been overwhelmed with life lately & plans to relocate outside the Sacramento area. For now, feel free to contact any of us tribe members if you are getting an itch to hoop or if you have any questions. I plan to head out into the sunshine to hoop a couple more times before i move & will be sure to plan a meet. I'm contemplating a "Goodbye" get together at my place with some hooping & BBQ too.

Once again, welcome & hope to hoop with you soon!

I've been wondering lately what everyone has been up to since the last time i saw all of the smiling faces.

Well for me I went to fire drums and spun my first fire hoop. Then I did it 3 more times that night. And the funny thing is that is was with 4 different types of hoops. Each one was very different is size, weight, and the wicks. It was amazing.

Well let me know what you've all been doing.

That's right kids! I'm moving the Hoopdown to 4pm! At the Toyspace, be there, or be square. This way it won't conflict with AcroYoga, which some folks may want to check out, or with other activities of the day.

See you then if not before.

Hoop workshop in SF

Hey hoopers, I'm planning to attend this workshop in SF, let me know if you'd like to carpool out!

Fellow hoop lovers-

First off, I want you to know that this is a personal message. You were selected by me with intention as someone that I thought would find value in this information.

I recently traveled to Portland to take a workshop from Baxter, an amazing hooper from North Carolina. His workshop was so amazing that I actually begged him to put together a second workshop in San Francisco that built on the first. I arranged and donated the space for the second workshop so that he could share more with us about warrior hooping. I recommend his workshops for any and all hoopers no matter your skill level. He has a very unique orientation to teaching and hooping and I think it is a worthwhile experience to take his class. Please don't let the price of the class turn you off, he is willing to provide tuition assistance for those who would like to learn, but are on a budget. (although please keep in mind that he is traveling from North Carolina just to share his teachings with us).

Here is his latest video demonstrating warrior style. Bad ass, eh? (He has a ton of videos on his tribe profile check out BAXTER on my friends list.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UNhiAiAnCE

Here are the San Francisco Hoop Path Tour Dates:

SAN FRANCISCO:
"The First Steps"
Details:
This 3-hour intensive will introduce you to the inspiring myths and powerful metaphors of The Hoop Path, a spiritual approach to hoopdance that has slowly built itself out of Jonathan Baxter's years of daily Hoop Practice. Bax's teaching incorporates prayerful guidance and unique storytelling as well as the straightforward breaking down of moves and practice of new techniques. This workshop is for those of us who already feel a connection with Hooping that goes far deeper than pure fitness, or for those hoopers who yearn to deepen and expand their Practice into subtler levels of awareness and grace. Together we will define and explore Hoop Path terms such as: pe*A*ce, Ritmo, One Tree/Two Tree; as well as established techniques such as Reversing, Breaking, Paddling and Angle Hooping.
When: Sunday, April 1, 2007
3 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (two 1.5 hour sessions with a break)

Where: The Margaret Jenkins Dance LAB
301 - 8th Street, 2nd Floor, Studio 200
San Francisco, CA 94103

Cost: $65 (As with ALL of my workshops tuition assistance may be available.)

"The Warrior Path"
We will further explore the ideas and methods of the Hoop Path. We will focus on "Warrior Style" and some of the more advanced ideas and concepts therein. If you have specific questions please message me.

RSVP at thehooppath@gmail.com

Meet this Sunday 03/25/07

Hey everyone!

Look at the weather! It's gorgeous out! Theres no reason why we shouldn't be out in the sun this Sunday hooping our little booties off! We are very blessed to have a humungous, beautiful park in our area & I've been itching to get back out to William Land Park since a few of us last met out there. So, let 's all try to put our over-bearing schedules aside for a little bit to do something special for our bodies, minds & spirit. Let's Hoop till it Hurts ya'll!

Here's what you'll need to know:

Meet time: Noon-2pm
Location: William Land Park in Sacrmento
Date: 03/25/07
What you need: Hoops (extras welcome), comfortable clothes, bottled water.
Note: There is a restroom next to the hoop spot. There will be great music & drum rhythms to hoop to.

here are two possible ways to get there:
1)Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
You will see a sign directing you to Riverside Blvd. to the right
Turn right toward Riverside . (this road will curve you around a half circle so you will be heading south on Riverside .)
Turn right on 12th Avenue
You can park anywhere along the street. We will be hooping near the children’s playground and basketball court labeled g-19 on the PDF map. Here’s the link:

www.cityofsacramento.org/parks...ap.pdf

2) Take I-5 to Sutterville exit and go east (it is the only direction you can go)
Turn Left at Land Park Drive (it is a stop light)
Turn Left at 14th Ave. (it is a stop sign)
Curve Right onto 13th street .

You will see the playground with a little white house with green shutters, the kiddie pool (It looks like a big blue mushroom), and the basketball courts. It is labeled G-19 on the PDF. You can park anywhere along the street. Here is the map:
www.cityofsacramento.org/parks...ap.pdf

I hope this isn't too confusing.. The good thing about land park is that if you asked someone where the kid's playground and wading pool is.. most people that hang out there would likely know. Please PM me if you would like my cell #.

Hope to hoop with all of you soon!

Till then,
~Mayhem

I'm so glad Sacto, has a hooping community. I moved from Sac almost 2 years ago and got into hooping after I moved. I will be visiting March 28 to April 3 any hooping events during that time I can attend? Thanks

I want a smaller hoop than what I have. Mine are big and light. I used Joy's at an event and my stomach was killing me the next day. Just the kind of work out I need. She is waaaaay smaller that me so, how do you go about getting the right fit?

I'm 5'6" tall does that matter?

Hello all,

I would like to offer my apologies for letting the tribe fade into the noisy desturbing background of my kaotic life for the past few weeks. I have been working an aweful lot lately & hooping on my own when I can. I have been required to be at work a 3am often for the last 2 weeks which requires me to get into bed at 6 or 7pm, only an hour or so after I get home. Yes, it sucks, its a bitch, but its life... for now.

Let me say that I adore & miss all of you & look forward to posting the info on our tribe meets which will be held at day events or campouts throughtout the Spring & Summer. As soon as I have a couple of hours to devote, I will be dazzling up the events messageboard with all the cool info on places to meet, hoop & have A hella good time! I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Till Then, Hoop till It Hurts!
Stay tuned ~Mayhem

P.S.- I got off of my procrastinating ass & got my Burning man tickets finally! CAN I GET A WHOOT WHOOT! :)

H.T.I.H Fieldtrips... Where do you wanna go?

Hey tribal bros & sistas,

During today's meet I discussed planning a field trip for our tribe every 3 months or so. I am a highly interactive person & love doing new things with new people. I have a few ideas for destinations for fieldtrips our tribe can go on; all i need to know is when & where ya'll would like to go.

I was thinkin I would love to pile as many of us into as few cars, with as many hoops as possible & head out to the bay area on a Sunday & mix our tribe with the BAH tribe for an afternoon. I will talk with BAH to find out all the logistics but don't ya'll think that would be fun to connect with other tribes?

I'm also very likely to add the Raindance festival (i think thats what its called) or High Sierra festival to our calendar & have a meet there where the music's pump & the hoops are jumpin. New enviornments bring out such cool new moods in us, as we experienced in our new park spot today & it's really got me thinking about travelin around.

Let me know what you think hoop people...

Thanks in advance,
~Mayhem

Park location confirmed, tribe meet this Sunday 01/21/07

All right ya'll, it's time to Hoop till it Hurts!!

As is obvious, I've recently been scouting parks in the Sacramento area to host our Tribe Meets so that we can all connect with nature, each other & our community at the same time. Our wonderful tribe member Andi has offered all the information she has about our local William Land Park & has done an excellent job researching & clearly explaining the location of a wonderful spot in this magnificant park. So let's give it a spin huh? Info is as follows:

here are two possible ways to get there:

Meet time: Noon-2pm
Location: William Land Park in Sacrmento
Date: 01/21/07
What you need: Hoops (extras welcome), comfortable clothes, bottled water.
Note: There is a restroom next to the hoop spot. There will be great music & drum rhythms to hoop to. Please PM me if you would like my cell #.

Hope to hoop with all of you soon!

Till then,
~Mayhem

Hey Hottie Hoopers!

I got a copy of some hooping video taken on NYE at my house party & thought I'd share with ya'll. It makes me laugh because we were all in such party moods; please excuse the jibberish we were all spouting & the instances where its side ways. Partying + video recording = off balance human beings ;)

This video came about because it was about 30min till the New Year & I wanted to warm up before going out into the street to spin fire with 3 of my friends to bring in 2007. I hope everyones New Year was as rockin & refreshing as ours, enjoy the video! ~Mayhem

Can I get your Sacramento Park suggestions please?

Hey Hoop till it Hurts'ers!

I am now entertaining the idea of moving our tribe meets to a local Public park when we are blessed with this strange, beautiful, warm weather in January from time to time. (this global warming stuff is scaring the crap out of me)

My questions are:
If and when you do, what park do you like to spend your time in & why? What park do you enjoy the scenery, people & vibe at the most? Where would our tribe enjoy the enviornment while hooping & have the most oppurtunities to meet & inspire others in our community to pick up a hoop? Can I get everyones suggestions?

Help me out with a little of this park decision making here & I would love to meet & spin with everyone at the decided park location for next tribe meet. So far I am leaning toward these parks with which I am most familiar:

-William Land Park at Sutterville rd exit off of I-5 (because its popular & massive)
-A Park at the corner of J &10th in downtwn (not sure of name)

If anyone is familiar with these two, please PM me & let me know what you think.

Thanks in Advance!
~Mayhem

-DISCUSSION TOPIC- (What are your healing processes?)

As active people with active lives, we feel that health & healing are a major everyday concern. Often we find our bodies tense & sore and over time, we learn what it takes to sooth & heal our mucles, bones, joints, & skin. Some of us have routines & some of us have random intuitive processes that just feel good & seem to do the job.

Sharing the things we have learned that work for us with others, is a good way to learn something in return. Please take a moment to share what you do when your body gets to achin' & it's time to play doctor.

Thanks in advance for contributing,
~Mayhem

Up here in Maine where the weather has been eerily warm for this time of here in this location, like warmer than California even, so uh, lets try to have some energy conseravation k.. this stuff is real.. But I am kinda glad that it has been warm fur to the fact that I didn't realize how much the cold effects your joints in your hands. I threw one of my wicks during fire practice becuz my hands were too numb to hold on to it or realize it was slipping.. Weird.. live and learn..

Anyway, I am here visiting my family who have never seen me do anything really cool except an 8th grade talent show but anway I did a fire performance for them and they were mad impressed, this performace was just for my sister, her husband and my mom. Tomarrow I will be doing for people who saved me and slaved me growing up, tonights performance was awesome, my sister cried, not figurative but litterally cried becuz she was so amazed that it was me doing this wonderful, awesome thing. She is so proud of me, and it makes me feel so good so loved. And also re enforces the fact that my path is rigth for me, no matter where it takes me, it is the path I am ment to take, and I will feel good on my path and bad off of it.

I go into serious training when I get back to be a perfessional performer. I want to bring myself to the next level on the path of my life. This is where I belong. Where dreams are still, and men burn... hehehe.. inside joke for those of you who know I hope you got it.. lol....

Anyway I am very excited about my new life and look forward to sharing all of it with you wonderful people. AND i just happened to get the best pics I have gotten so far, except my blue and white 69 but you haven't seen that one yet, I am behind, sorry... Plus tomarrows performace will be video taped so that I will have a demo of sorts.. Anyway hope your holiday is as good as mine has been!! Love you all!!

Plans have changed for the next tribe meet-Sunday 12/17/06

Hello my brothers & sisters of the circle,

As probably only a few of you know, I have been hooping as a background extra in a small film over the past month & was under the impression that my most recent visit to the set was the last, for my role. It seems that some footage has been lost in editing & they now need me back on set this Sunday right at the time I'd be hoopin my butt off at our tribe meet.

I don't see any reason to cancel the meet if many of you were looking forward to spinning this Sunday, so please respond to this post if you are still up for jamming. I will be asking our tribe member Shredder if she would like to host the meet this time so ya'll can still proceed to Hoop till it Hurts!

I am rather torn, as being on set can be just as much fun as hooping with the tribe and I will absolutely be with you all in spirit. (We will practically be hooping at the same time from different places!)

I hope all is well & your bodies are healthy, happy & hoopla'd! Please pm me with any questions.

Namaste,
~Mayhem

Shredder will just have gotten in town by this Sunday & will be jamming with us this Sunday! For those of you that don't know who Shredder is, Shredder is an amazing Hoop Dance Proffesional with a heart of gold, 1st class poise & style & just happens to be one of the biggest influences in my life. We met on the playa a little over a year ago & shortly after she graced me with her friendship, presence, knowlege & began training me in hoop dance. If you've seen me dance and think I do it well, now you know where I learned from. Shredder has trained with some of the most influential dancers in our community as well as world renowned performers & possesses her own flame, which has recenty taken her all the way to the East Coast & back on tour with the Cole Brothers Circus. I am sooo excited to have her back In town & to have the chance to dance with her again.

So, this Sunday will be a chance for us to hoop with one of the best, and hope some of that majic will rub off on us. This will also be a chance to learn more about the hoop dance workshop Shredder & I will be giving in December. We will be taking sign-ups at this Sundays meet & offering more info on the event.

The temperature is dropping, my summer party craze has come to an end, & it's time to take it down a notch.

I really love the holidays for the fact that now is the time of year that is all about everyone else but ourselves, & is a chance to give back to all the people who show us love & care throughout the year. This time of year is a time of recollection & intimacy with the ones we love dearly & the ones we don't get to see often. Throughout this season we should take a few moments to be thankful for all the special people in our lives & also to be greatful for the gift of winter; a cleansing of Mother Earth.

Don't forget to call everyone & wish them happy holidays because hearing your voice, you know, will be the perk of their season. I can't help but think "gosh we are lucky" to be alive & to be loved by the Universe, Mother Earth & our families. This season, lets do our best to let our gratitude show.

Happy Happy Holidays to our beautiful tribe & I please post some snow-hooping pics! *< : )

Hello all!

I am very happy to announce that we have a place to spin whenever it rains this season for a very very low price!

I visited the Technique Gymnasium in Rancho Cordova today & was able to secure a large wonderful space with mirrors. It turns out that this will be a bit of a drive for me & if it will be for anyone else I am happy to do a carpool.

So if its raining on any of our meet days you know where we will be meeting. Feel free to PM me for address & directions or to find out what the individual rate is. Remember that if more of us show up its even cheaper!

Thank you Bliss for the referral!

-Tribe Meet Rescheduled!!-

Hey all!

As many of you have probably heard I am flying to New Mexico this Sunday for 6 days. This clearly takes me out of the loop for our meet this Sunday so per Fire Kitty's suggestion, I've decided to reschedule it. Here's the plan:

-Our next meet will be held Sunday Nov 12th, 2006 (location will be changed if it is raining)
-The following week on Sunday Nov 19th, 2006 we will hold our regularly scheduled meet , which means our next two hoop meets will be back-to-back (one week apart).

Can ya handle it?!

So mark your calendars & please be aware of a potential location change to an indoor spot if it is raining. I am still working out availability & hourly rates which are rediculously low (yay! for us!) & will inform everyone of the location's address as soon as I know.

You know what I'm gonna say...
Till then, Hoop till it Hurts!,
-Mayhem

Hey all!

Just checking in to say hello & update you on my time out here in New Mexico. I must say I was not expecting to arrive in such an enchanted place! After the motion sickness passed from the plane ride & I saw my hoops made it to New Mexico with us I got a chance to do some hiking, I must say this place is soooooo breathtaking. Majic is everywhere!

We are staying with friends who recently built their house up on a mesa about 20 mi. outside of Albequerque. The sunsets are in colors I've never seen before & the wind whispers secrets of the land in your ears.

Today we drove about 3 hrs to visit the ruins of an ancient Anasazie Indian civilization of about 900 yrs old! The energy of this place was austere & I managed to pick my jaw up for a few moments to get some interesting hooping pictures. The distractions here make it really hard to remember to hoop but I still have 2 more days left.

I hope all is going smoothly & hooping is keeping your energy right where it needs to be.

See you all this Sunday for the meet & check at our tribe's photo gallery for picks of my high desert endeavours with my hoop!

Namaste,
-Mayhem

Hey all,

I just looked at the calendar and realized that I will be flying to New Mexico on Sunday Nov 5, 2006, which is the same day of our next tribe meet! I have come up with two alternatives & would like to know which sounds best to everyone.

1)We can hold the meet the day before the regularly scheduled day (on Saturday Nov 4, 2006).
OR
2) You all may still hold the meet on the scheduled day without me. This will mean that someone will need to volunteer to coordinate the time, location etc. & make it happen so that you all will still get spin time in. If it is raining then the meet can be held at the indoor location I am setting up to hold us over for the cold season.

If you are interested in hosting the next tribe meet please PM me.

Thanks!
-Mayhem

I'm on the market for a psy hoop... can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hey all,

I was sooo excited to find out that my sweetie's christmas present for me this year is a new psy-hoop! Yay! He has told me early so I could do the shopping for the perfect one. Anybody got any suggestions? What do I look for in a psy-hoop other than the fact that it looks narly at night?

He did not give me a limit on how much it can cost so I guess I'm looking for quality, sturdy & not too high priced. $180 - $250 sounds reasonable. I've heard of $280 ones, but I need to be convinced that they are worth paying that much for, before I consider.

Any thing you know would be greatly appreciated. I would even more appreciate information on someone who sells psy-hoops here in sac. I would like to take my new friend with me to New Mexico next week if possible.

Thanks in advance!
