Just a little note to say hey...looking forward to grow community and awareness of sacred belly dance as a concept. People always ask me what style of belly dance I do, and I struggled with my answer for quite a while. Not quite cabaret, not quite tribal, more emphasis on free-form channeling. What does sacred belly dance say to you?

What does "Sacred Belly Dance" mean to me?
well. firast of all I want to know which is sacred - the dance ot the belly?
Or is that like asking about the chicken and the egg?

Bakhti yoga ( "union through dance") is one of the six Hindu paths to enlightenment. So dance is already sacred.

And since most of come from a belly. many would call the belly sacred too. I know I've seen that are worth worshiping.

So..., I don't know. You figure it out.

to me sacred belly dance is when the 'leg wiggle' moves up to the ass, and then into the mid section, creating a belly wiggle (don't do on a full stomach people)..... but really I'm more of an enjoyer of the form of dance known as belly dance rather than a preformer... and I play some stupid crazy psytrance (thus the belly wiggle)

Hmm...belly dancing to psytrance - that might start a revolution!

I think the answer is that both the dance and the belly are sacred, but when you combine them, you enter the realm of the Super Sacred. Maybe I should start printing some baby tees with a big SS on the midsection...

Sacred Belly Dance means to me watching beautiful women (or beautiful people in general) shake their bellies and tripping out on their bellies...

And I don't think much else about it except that I like different arts and culture- Bellydancing is something I like to watch too (I can't do it tho- too much flab- People would need therapy after seeing me bellydance)- Too much in my opinion is spun around people kissing up to whoever or making the money or nourishing low selfesteem by posing- And sacred bellydance sorts of things are usually around more honest and selfaware circles of people-

And that is why I like the idea of a sacred bellydance...

            Yeah,
            Peace,
            -Mike

For some reason the idea of the "SS Tees" reminds me of something that would come out of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" just with Pink the bellydancer instead of musician.... Trippy....

          Peace,

Everything can be sacred if done with intention.

Certainly bellydance can be mundane, romantic, boring, historical, sexual, playful, dramatic, exercise, or not sacred in any way whatsoever. (I mean, let's not drag anyone into a sacred circle who doesn't want to be here.)

Bellydancing is something that I do with intention, connecting with divine nature, following my perfect bliss, opening my heart, moving through fear, making love with Goddess with my whole self.
