Welcome to all the new folks just signing on . . . most of you are old friends! I encourage you to say hello and introduce yourself, if you have time. The fire family tree is growing one spark at a time.

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 9:05 PMIs this an annual tradition where I notice . . . right around the summer solstice! . . . that it would be nice to get to know the new members of this tribe?
We must all be ruled by inner patterns we are hardly aware of.
On that note -- INTRODUCE YOURSELF! -

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sat, June 23, 2007 - 10:06 PM*mopes in* well ok, I'm Cwellan from Southborough MA. I like long walks on the beach, poetry, and FIRE!!! I've been a firetender for almost 25 years (17-18 of which have been for sacred fire circles). I've been around the East coast for a bunch of years (mostly Rites though), I've played around the San Jose area for the 2004 Firedance and Phoenix Fires, Last year I started really venturing out (to the Orange MA area), and helped out with the fires at Forestdance. This year, I've made it to Las Vegas for the first time to attend May Fire, and I've got several more festivals and gatherings planned for then next 4 months as well. Next year, I'm really hoping to make it to several more festivals. Unfortunately this will mean that I won't be able to attend all of the ones that I did this year, but that's part of the process, isn't it?
My newly discovered inner pattern is that I only hibernate in the winter when there is no snow...go figure. Any other newly discovered inner patterns?

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sun, December 16, 2007 - 1:25 PMOk, it's time, not Summer Solstice but Winter Solstice! I have been a silent and passive "member" of this tribe for a while, and I guess I should let myself be seen. I've been around the fire circle scene for a long time, and was one of the early architects of the Fire Circle form that has become widespread. I love hearing about new and old festivals, gatherings, and circles that grew from the seeds blown by the Wind from Rites of Spring via Starwood in the early to mid 1990s. Rhythm is my passion, ecstatic transformation (of myself, community, and culture) my goal. Blessings to all you of, companions on the Path.

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sun, June 24, 2007 - 1:18 AMGreetings!
I am Cindy. I lived in Las Vegas for the past several years. What an amazing town! It is where I discovered the drum and a wonderful group of people.
I love to travel and discover. I like to be involved and dedicated to whatever it is I am doing. I reserve the right to change my mind. I love the idea of free expressions and witnessing fully. I feel there are no limitation to the next moment and try to let go of my expectations.
At the moment I am living in Surrey, England, been here since Oct. 2006. I have found wonderful people to drum with but no sacred drum circles, so I miss it a lot. My recent highlight is my Riq and I wondering into the center of the Stones at Stonehenge on Solstice! I sat and played for a few hours during sunset. A lot of people were drinking and it was VERY crowed but inside myself it was a peaceful and wonderful experience.
Looking forward to reading about you…
Much Love,
Cindy -

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sun, June 24, 2007 - 6:25 AMHello from Bilhelm !
I am living in Germany at the moment, having migrated (via marriage) from Hawaii, originally from Connecticut.
Cindy, I'm sorry I failed to notify you (and whoever else) about the Bohemian Firecircle, which just happened a few weeks ago in SW Czech Republic. It's small and not fully matured, as Firecircles go, but it is what we make it, and make it we do...
Our goal is to keep going, and it is possible we will start another Firecircle, possibly same location in Autumn, and/or an early Spring Firecircle in Italy.
And, WE LOVE FRAME DRUMS ! Yes! Frame Drums are the source of the MAGIC, y'all! We are a Tak-a-Doumie horde!
OK, anybody who wants to be put on a 'notification list' for the Bohemian Firecircle can let me know.... and maybe we will form another tribe just for that.
Meanwhile, I have no other Firecircles in my sights for the future. (That's why we make 'em here) One very juicy engagement is the
Tamburi Mundi Frame Drum Festival coming up in August, in Freiburg, which is near to Basel Switzerland and France. Astrid and I will be conducting a public drum circle, as part of the festival, on Sunday the 12th, right in the middle of the beautiful old city.
Any frame drum enthusiast anywhere, especially in Europe, would do well to consider this event, which runs about 5 days, the 7th - 12th.

Liebe Grüße from the Alpen foothills,
Bilhelm

Fri, June 29, 2007 - 9:35 AMHi there all,
I’m Andros, a newly single guy in a mid life crisis “so I’m told”. I’ve been focused on my marriage, career and family for the last 27 years now I find myself alone searching for a tribe. My kids (21, 23, and 26) have little time for me and me for then as I fill my time with many fun new things (Yoga, Dance, Bodywork (CMT), Music, FIRE and Festivals\Gatherings). All is good in my life just different then I have been accustom to I’m learning new things about myself and other everyday. “In a nut shell, I’m a work in progress”.
PS: there is a lot of good energy and light radiating from the women named professor

Sat, June 30, 2007 - 9:24 AMHi, my name is Tawny. I happily call myself a child of the Earth and a worshipper of the Moon.
I was introduced to the dynamic fire circle family via a friend, "Jason Cohen".
During the past 4 yrs I have traveled with Jason's band Incus and the Forest Dance crew as their kitchen witch.
Cooking has always been a passion of mine and healing others through food is one of my life goals.
Indeed, the magical concept of sacred fire and community has whisked me in and nutured my soul.
I am truly blessed to be a witness.
Namaste!

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Tue, July 24, 2007 - 10:22 AMHello,
my name is Chris, but friends call me fox. That is in respect to my totem :)
The fire circle is my place of the sacred human interaction, creativity, worship, and fun.
I am a story teller who is building forms of music, dance and story to help in transcendance and healing. A watcher of the myths we live by and recorder of the stories of our tribe :)
:) I know Kenny and he is really a cool dude. Like someone else called him "the smile factory"
I study various forms of the indigenous use of the Fire circle, and look to help in recreating a sacrd place for people in our age.
I am honored to share space with all and any of you in the past, now in cyber space, in the future circle's, and eventually in the great Fire circle of eternity :)
peace

Thanks Kenny for having those wooden spoons in your shop. I have used them as a tool since Billy Bardo turned me onto to them, and have not had a working pair since I busted my last in a magical duet with Magnus some years ago at Starwood :)

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Fri, August 17, 2007 - 6:22 PMWell then I'll make a little hello and a short intro. I am Dancing Tree and it is my wish to increase the joy in my life by increasing the joy all around me. I've been circling fires for a long time now and have used it to conquer fears and blossom ever further into life. I am sure that there are many of you who I have seen around fires, most notably Fire's Rising, Starwood, Free Spirit, and CTS! Now most recently Sacred Soul Fire where I not only tended fire for all three nights and helped create and take down our fire circle, but where I also got to pass through a portal that I had not been through in almost 20 years. A portal that was all but lost to me in fear is now regained. And so I grow. I am not a finished master of elements, I am a living being, continually growing in spirit, heart and mind. And so, despite facilitating experiences for others, I too get to learn in a beautiful dance and song of god in all. Fear not my friends. May all you do move from your center, strong in body, heart, mind and spirit.

I have known the joy of being with my small group of sisters around a sacred fire, but dream of the sheer magnitude of dancing and drumming around a circle such has been described here.. It is my ferverent desire to move inside that circle of light before I get too much older. In the meantime, vicarious living is the order of the day. Blessed be to all herein.

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sun, December 9, 2007 - 10:37 AMGreetings!
My name is Will - A lifelong lover of fire, but mostly solitary until the Brushwoodians turned me onto the idea of the community fire circle some years ago. A quiet man amongst peacocks, it took me way too long to introduce myself to the folk more directly involved. I've recently been out to Lothlorien and Our Haven and hope to get out there more in the coming year. But all these places are too far away, so we often do our own little things here in Cincinnati - though we're still working on the basics of how to consistently invoke the energies we're after.
I've a personal tradition for tending a fire all night on the Winter Solstice - started when I lived in New Hampshire - and this year I've invited a few other local fire tenders to join me. -

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sun, December 9, 2007 - 10:45 AMHello, I prefer to go by Noora. I was born and raised in Las Vegas. I have never been a part of a large a large sacred circle. My friends growing up and I would only get together during the soltace and some other special times. I am mostly solitary because my husband is not very eager to let me practice this ancient art. He isn't into anything that does not involve the bible of Christianity. I mostly like to listen to what other people are doing anddream about being a part of a circle of friends and power. -

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Sun, December 9, 2007 - 6:23 PMI'm Roberta, and have been feeling rather spark-y of late. I've been attending fire circles and festivals since the early 90's; have been to quite a few Starwoods, among other trips between the worlds. I've worked both in and out of covens. I like to make music. And trouble.
PS Noora, take the recommendation. If I were in your area I would work with Deborah and Joshua in a HEARTBEAT! -

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Mon, December 10, 2007 - 2:50 PMOk, guess I should introduce myself also. My name is Russell, I am 30 years old, and really hate talking about myself. I just made a major move from Maryland to Vegas a few short months ago and still feel kinda dazed and confused from the change. All my friends and most of my family except my father live back there so I really don't know anyone around here. Well I have been to a few fire circles back in MD but none where it was the focus of the events. I have been studying wicca for the last 7 years now. I tend to jump from one topic to the next and back again randomly some times (sorry for the confusion). what else? umm... well i am single now. the long distance thing didn't work as best me and my ex would have hoped for, so right now all I pretty much do is go to work, come home, sleep, and start over again the next day. really need to get a life of some sorts huh??? oh well, that should cover it for now... any ?'s just ask!

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Mon, December 17, 2007 - 7:01 AMHello!
I'm Laa from Boston. I'm new and not new to the communtiy at the same time. Until this past fall my circles intersected with the fire community, but after Forestdance MA this year I same to have found myself smack-dab in the middle of the fire.
Love to those I know, and additional greetings to those I'm meeting for the first time.

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Fri, January 18, 2008 - 9:23 PMThank you for the sumimasen welcome, professor. I'm a teacher too. I teach math, but I also teach connection and communication and caring. And math may play a part in saving the world. It certainly makes it more fun technologically for many of us.
I'm a musician (piano) who has morphed into a math teacher. I went to my first drum circle in 1990, at the age of 23, and it was a burn as well. I was hooked. I live in San Francisco, but used to always drive down to Santa Cruz for their full moon raves. A few long drives that found no raves happening caused me to believe they had ended. At least, regularly.
My hands are how I communicate when I am on piano and it is as much a percussive communication at times as it is melodic. There's a drummer in me too. Somehow (maybe this will be the year. Maybe finding a way to regularly be at fires with drums will prove the catalyst and I'll finally get one. Once I played with about 30 drummers around a huge fire at high sierra music festival for hours until my hands bled. It was bliss.
So it's the drums. And the fire. And the night. And the dancing. But I'm hoping I'll find some regularly happening in the San Francisco Bay Area. I get time to travel in my profession, but lately it's been international.
Looking forward to meeting and communicating with all. Again, thanks to the professor for the invite to introduce. I'm brand new to online tribes. Just joined a few and this is the first where that offer has been made. I guess you've insprired me to be proactive and take that step in the others.
Thanks!

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Tue, January 22, 2008 - 8:08 PMMy partner and I went to a Sparks Collective circle last year at Humanist Hall in Oakland. We brought our drums. We were told that "only certain people" could drum and were told to put the drums away or back in the car. We were insulted and taken aback and left. Never went to another Sparks event after that one. -

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 7:19 AMWell, I'd have to know what "model" the event was based on. There are some events where the music is VERY intentional and I know there are some folks in the community who are trying to explore that type of theme. I went to Fires Rising about a year and a half ago, it was a lot more structured than fire circles I'm used to and I wouldn't have been able to keep up with what they were doing musically (so I danced *g*). At first I was a bit turned off, the structure didn't seem like it fit with what my ideas of a fire circle are, however, as the night (and weekend) wore on I started to feel better about things and while it's not my favorite fire circle structure I do enjoy it.
So your situation may have been that.
Or it may have been something else entirely. I know a few drummers who have been less than tact when asking people to stop drumming. :)

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 9:02 AMI would just like to reply to this by saying that Spark has gone through a few iterations in the past year or so with ways of operating and models of running circle. Right now, there is a 'drummers' meeting at the beginning of circle that goes over the basics of communication as a drummer in the circle. Other than that, all are welcome. Up to you, but you might want to consider giving it another shot. Many groups go through various 'experiments' on how to run circle or try different ways of being in the space. Where they have settled to for now is sweet, wonderful, powerful and welcoming to all.
-Missy

Re: Welcome new members, and old friends
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 7:10 PMSorry you had a bad experience. Just to repeat what Missy said, our only requirement for drumming is that you attend one of the drummers' orientations that happen before the circle. I can't think of any reason someone would have told you to put your drums back in your car. We like everyone to participate, but it's much easier when everyone knows the ground rules, and it's often a struggle to communicate clearly while the circle is in full gear. -
