As many of you know, Danza della Luna is in the works of producing an instructional DVD - our winning prize from the 2009 Choreography Project in Austin, TX hosted by Rick Fink and Z-Helene. The DVD is due out early 2010. In the meantime, you may pre-order the DVD at, www.SadiyyaDance.com/shop.htm .

Danza della Luna is offering a free workshop to the first 8 people who pre-order the DVD! This class will take place on Wednesday November 4, 2009, at 7pm - 8:30pm at Sa’diyya’s home-studio in Frisco. (Prerequisite: At least 6 mos. of bellydance classes needed to attend.) It is a "teaser" workshop meant to share a few parts of the featured choreography (“Yearning” by Raul Ferrando from “Angelika Unveiled”) that will be on the DVD. What a great way to get some extra, detailed, undivided instruction (There will be 6 instructors for 8 attendees!)!

Why, yes! Yes you are!!!

I am one of the members of 4 Wench Productions and we produce an event called “Tribal Alchemy”. Now I know many of you think because of the word “tribal”, this event has nothing to offer to YOU. This would be incorrect.

What is Alchemy? By definition, alchemy is “ A medieval chemical philosophy having as its asserted aims the transmutation of base metals into gold, the discovery of the panacea, and the preparation of the elixir of longevity. “ How this translates to US is the mixture of different elements of dance and music to create something entirely new.

We offer affordable workshops, 36.00 each (which are approximately one week’s worth of fast food for most) and these workshops are instructed by some of the most sought after teachers around.

For the musicians, we have with us this year Mr. Dave Hall, who has toured with Solace Live and himself has been a drumming instructor for over 15 years. He has a vast knowledge base and much to offer.

For dancers who are not primarily of the “tribal” persuasion, one of our most requested an instructor (returning for a THIRD year) is Mira Betz. Her knowledge base is SO vast; it would fill this page to list every workshop topic she works with. She has taught workshops on Moroccan folkloric dance with us and this year is offering TWO very different workshops (one on improvisation skills and the other is all about the Taxeem!)

We have SOOZ, who is Fat Chance certified coming to share the ATS goodness. We have Theatrical bellydance, we have Belladonna bringing her unbelievable SWORD skills to teach. The list goes on and on!

The fact is, most bellydancers (no matter what style they fall into) use the same dance vocabulary. Our event offers the chance to learn some new ways to USE those moves, perhaps give you a FRESH view of your dance, and maybe turn you on to something you might not have previously been willing to try.

For 36.00 and a few short hours of your time, you can get a glimpse of something new and maybe start to figure out how some dancers “do that stuff”.

Most importantly, this event is NON PROFIT and benefits Safe Haven of Tarrant County. This center is a shelter and provides assistance for women and children who are affected by domestic violence. "Tribal Fusion Basics: Part 1" - Must have taken 1 full year of Bellydance

Tribal Fusion is a beautiful, expressive, and highly stylized genre of bellydance. Part 1 of the tribal fusion class will focus on some of the basic moves that characterize tribal fusion bellydance. We will also utilize core strengthening techniques that will help us build stamina, and increase our grace, strength, flexibility, and muscle control. Some exercises will be done on the floor, so it will be helpful to bring a yoga mat! Concepts will be introduced with short combinations to take home. Part 2 of the class will continue to build on the techniques and use them in a complete choreography.

"I have been involved in creative movement for most of my life, starting with figure skating at the age of 9 through college when I discovered my love of multi-cultural dance forms. I began bellydancing in early 2005 with Gina Capossella and Alia Thabit of Vermont , and later studying with Sa'diyya. Tribal Fusion immediately captured my attention at the onset of my studies of bellydance, and I've pursued it independently at every opportunity that's presented itself."

Students will learn how Sa'diyya prepares for performances, starting with choosing music, costuming, makeup and hair, and packing your dance bag. We'll be up dancing, too! Sa'diyya will offer ideas to re-ignite your inspiration for creating choreographies and/or improvisational dances. We'll stretch our creativity to the limits by learning how to create unusual and interesting movement combinations! By the time this 10 week session is over, you'll feel revitalized for your next performance!"

"How do I register?"

Current students may register before or after their class meeting starting September 14. Current students can also mail in their payment for their next class.

Yay Danza della Luna!

I am so proud of my troupe, Danza della Luna! We just got back from Austin and placed first in the Medium Troupe category and won Overall Troupe Champions at the 2009 Choreography Project in Austin! Out prize is that we get to create an instructional DVD featuring our winning choreography! That'll be ready in a few months! Go team! The event was hosted by Rick Fink and Z-Helene. Here's some info about us below!

“Sa’diyya and the Danza della Luna Performance Company” is an Award-Winning dance troupe based in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area, directed by professional dancer and instructor, Sa’diyya, aka Elizabeth Parr. “Danza della Luna” is Italian for “Dance of the Moon,” referring to the age-old comparison of a woman’s beauty to the beauty of the moon in Middle Eastern cultures. Danza della Luna specializes in unique Bellydance presentations that showcase the more modern styles of Bellydance, as their repertoire runs the gamut from world-fusion dances to flashy “Las Vegas” style dances to the authentic dances of the Middle East. Sa’diyya and the Danza della Luna Performance Company was founded in March of 2007 by Sa’diyya, the Artistic Director, Dance Coach and Visionary for this group of hard-working dancers who share the same enthusiasm and vision as Sa’diyya. A little about Sa'diyya: Elizabeth, also known as Sa'diyya, is a full time professional Bellydance performer and instructor from Dallas, Texas. She has been a part of this wonderful art form since 1996. Along with owning her businesses: her school, the North Texas School of World Dance and her entertainment agency, "The Art of Bellydance by Sa'diyya", Elizabeth directs three award-winning performance companies, ranging from student to professional levels. She choreographs, directs and produces several staged shows a year with a cast of over 30 performers, and all the while maintains a full local and national performance schedule at the best venues and with the best producers around. Elizabeth has won many national awards including Belly Dancer of the Year 2003 and 2007 First Place Winner at The Heart of Texas Belly Dance Contest. She can be seen in several invitational performances of the International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance's recent DVD productions, "Belly Dance Revolution" and "Belly Dance-O-Rama 2." Elizabeth is also a featured performer in Bahaia's production of "Cairo Heat Wave," as well as being a featured dancer in Cheeky Girls production of "By Dancers For Dancers Vol.2."

Tribal Fusion is a beautiful, expressive, and highly stylized genre of bellydance. Part 1 of the tribal fusion class will focus on some of the basic moves that characterize tribal fusion bellydance. We will also utilize core strengthening techniques that will help us build stamina, and increase our grace, strength, flexibility, and muscle control. Some exercises will be done on the floor, so it will be helpful to bring a yoga mat! Concepts will be introduced with short combinations to take home. Part 2 of the class will continue to build on the techniques and use them in a complete choreography.
There as been a lot of interest, so get your spot while you can. Star is a great instructor and dancer. Don't Miss It!

About Delmar:

After attending the University of Texas in San Antonio to pursue basketball, Delmar's focus turned to dance. She enrolled in a hip hop class at a local studio, and shortly after was invited to audition for the San Antonio Spurs dance team. After one year with the Spurs, she went on to make a name for herself in the Tejano music entertainment industry. She was featured in music videos, live concerts, television shows, and she also toured and choreographed for several Latin recording artists.

Delmar’s passion for dance brought her to Dallas, where she sought to study and educate herself in the many forms of dance that were not available to her in San Antonio. She auditioned for the Dallas Mavericks dance team and was chosen out of 600 ladies to represent the Dallas Mavericks. Her talent was quickly recognized, and she was recruited to choreograph for the team in her first year as a dancer. Since then she has earned a reputation as being one of the most versatile and professional dancers in the metroplex. For the past five years she has toured across the country performing in venues in Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and everywhere in between. Her professional work includes the Nickelodeon Go For It tour, the Femme Fatales tour, the Body Art Ball tour, Texas lottery commercials, and industrials for companies such as Dillard’s, Sam’s Club, Sherwin Williams, Pepsi, Special Olympics, and Farouk Hair Systems.

So, I have finally been able to catch my breath, get back into the regular monotony of work, and had enough time (without Tribe being down) to get a post up!

I just wanted to personally say Thanks to all that came out to support “Raks into Spring”2009 featuring Zahra Zuhair.

I am sure those that attended can attest to the fact that she is an outstanding, down to earth, instructor and an even more remarkable performer! There were varied levels in the workshops and she was able to make it challenging for the most seasoned performer as well as palpable for even the beginner student.

Oodles of talent from North Texas and beyond graced the stage at Rose Marine theater for our Gala Show. Zahra performed twice, once with Wind and Fingers who added such a wonderful variation with the ambiance of live music.

Again, a VERY sincere, THANKS to all who made our event a success!

I am looking for photos of dancers....all styles(not just ME dance styles ALL dance), genders, heights, weights, ethnicities, and ages. I am looking for the variety of photos too...action shots, posed shot, group shots, solo shots, rehearsal shots, preparation shots....etc.

SATURDAY 10:00a WORKSHOP: "UNMATA au naturel"
This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first
combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA's modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance.Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe's choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement,then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.
This workshop will be fun, fast, and furious. UNMATA believes in beat-your-butt technical practice, so bring water and come prepared to sweat.

SATURDAY 1:30p WORKSHOP: "UNMATA, The Fast & The Furious"
This intense workshop focuses on fast! Amy will lay down the stylistic foundation and technical breakdown for UNMATA's awe-inspiring omis, ferocious shimmies, and bad-ass body pops.Each movement will include "transition-training" so it can be used alone or linked with other movements to create a short choreography. UNMATA is known for beat-your-butt drilling and technical obsession, so bring lots of water and come prepared to sweat!

WORKSHOP: "Overlaying Isolations, Amy Sigil Style"

Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate toadvanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA.

Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.

-If you are a current student of Sa'diyya's, you may register this week by bringing your payment to class. As soon as you have paid for the next session in full, your spot is held. After this week, registration opens to new and past students! Get your spot while you can!

-Registration JUST opened, so no classes are full, yet.

-All classes are held in Frisco at Sa'diyya's in-home studio.

-If you are a past or new student of Sa'diyya's, you may call 214-387-0738 AFTER July 2 to register. You can set up a time to drop your payment off, at which time, and not before, will your spot be held for your class. It is first pay, first serve. You can also mail your payment to PO Box 152, Frisco, TX, 75034 AFTER July 2. Please include the class time you wish to sign up for (as well as a backup class) and a way for me to get in touch with you to confirm that your spot is held.

-The new schedule does not take effect until the week of July 30th.

-All class times are the same until the current 8 week long sessions have ended.

DRUMMERS AND DANCERS please join us. PURE is a performance art group that spreads awareness for causes we believe in and brings our art form out into the world guerilla style. www.puredance.org http://PURE-Dance.tribe.net

We cross many dance forms and are affiliated with no particular studio....this is an amazing opportunity for us all to join in a unified dance and help our world/community.

Our first meeting of the year will be on March 1 at the Hurst Recreation Center from 8-9pm. All subsequent meetings will be held on the 1st Thursday of the month as well. Please bring $3 to cover room rental and administrative paperwork (making copies).

In July, we will perform in the annual anniversary of PURE's first procession in NYC. All PURE chapters across the world perform on the same day to celebrate the anniversary. We will also be dancing at Kismet this year.

- Pick charities, events, or causes to spread awareness
- DANCE and DRUM!

It's super cheap too (2 years ago it was $27 bucks for all 3 days). The big expense will be flying up which if you book early is about $114 out of love field. Otherwise it's a 9 hour Drive and that stinks... the folks at the STL folk dance association have in the past helped people to find cheap or free accomdations

I'm sorry to say that the very first Texas World Dance Showcase scheduled for Saturday May 20, 2006, has been cancelled due to the venue shutting down. :( The venue failed to contact me directly and I found out through someone kind enough to inform me when they saw a posting on the venue's website. I apologize for any inconvience this may have caused anyone, especially the performers, all of which will be contacted promtly on Monday, May 15. Hopefully, in the near future I can find a great venue and start these shows over.

Ethnic Fusion Belly Dance Workshop No. 4

Sa'diyya will be explaining Ethnic Fusion theory - her own methods and guidelines for fusing Middle Eastern Dance, as well as teaching a DRAMATIC sword dance to the music "Immortal Egypt" by Hosam Ramzy. This workshop is appropriate for dancers new to sword dancing and professionals alike. Bring a sword or cane to balance on your head and knee pads! (Some movements will involve going down to the floor - if students aren't able to descend to the floor due to knee problems, etc, Sa'diyya will give alternative, equally impressive, movements the student can use instead.) Monday and Tuesday Night Combinations and Technique Classes!!!

Hello Everyone!
Starting in March, I will be offering Monday and Tuesday evening advanced classes for belly dancers who are looking to add more to their repertoire, improve on technique, or to simply have some fun and stay active with an extra belly dance class. This class is open to everyone! You can sign up for the whole month ($50), or take the class on a walk-in basis ($15). The subject matter will be the same on both Mondays and Tuesdays, so you can choose one or the other. In the past we have focused on drum solo technique and ideas, shimmy layering drills, khaleegi, zar, saidi, raks sharqi choreographies and much, much more! I take suggestions, so send me your feedback if you have a class subject you'd like to be covered! For March, I will be covering how to do improvisational dancing (also a suggestion from a fellow dancer!)
To register for the class (by the month or on a walk-in basis), please call 214.387.0738.
The classes are located in Frisco. I will give you directions when you call for registration.

Incredible Choreographer Too!

Not only is Sa'diyya a fabulous dancer and an awesome teacher, she is also an incredible choreographer. The cool thing is that she is available for custom choreographies!

She just taught me the custom drum solo choreography that I commissioned from her and it ROCKS! Its cute...its fun...it has all the things I asked for...she is just a genius choreographer. I only hope I can do it justice! I look forward to performing it with Doumsmack in the near future.

Performing Belly Dance

Hello to the hard-working beginner students!
I'm writing to make sure you know that you don't have to perform if you don't want to, ever. Some women just like to take belly dance simply for enjoyment, exercise, etc. You are all doing very good in class and are all perfectly capable of performing!, but I don't want to scare anybody off with all of the performance talk! I just get so excited about it! I will offer oppurtunities for performing and all, some or none of you can choose to take them, includng the graduation, which is your first oppurtunity. And of course if you choose not to perform then, it's still your party and we'll have fun!

I just had to post here to tell you about what I heard last night. I was at Kan Zaman talking to the owner and he said.... "Sa'diyya is the best dancer I have ever seen". Then said he hoped he didn't offend me.

I said of course I'm not offended! She's my teacher and she is a great dancer! Why else would I take from her?

Not only are you are wonderful dancer but you are a super teacher! I can't wait to see what you have cooked up for January.

Beginner Ethnic Fusion students need at least 1 year of Middle Eastern Dance experience. Students will learn an award-winning choreography for their first Ethnic Fusion performance!

Ethnic Fusion Belly Dance Workshop attendees need not have previous fusion/tribal belly dance. The workshops will be suitable for intermediate through professional level dancers.
