Hey all Thanks for having this tribe here first of all Im planning to move to California, and have come across SafeAccess in my research.
Basically Im hopiing to find detailed info on the movement out there and how to legally get involved particularly the various medical conditions covered. The reason I ask that is, I dont know if the lists Ive come accross so far are complete lists or just giving examples. Naturally one needn;t move to California to be an activist, that goes with out saying, but I would really like to like to get my fingers dirty in more than one way. I hope Ive not been too forward, again Im just curious and looking for info, so if Ive stepped out of line forgive me.

It's California so "just do it" ha ha ha

It's way laid back simply a note from the doctor and you're good to go

stores with mouth watering strains lined up like candy of a shelf

and it will most likely be legalized in 2010 if for no other reason than a desperate need for tax revenue

I think it's too expensive for a lot of sick people, though - cheaper to grow and so much better when it is your own baby

not so much. you actually have to find a 215 Dr., pay about $125.00 to see the doc and hope he approves you. but the list of ailments/diseases is long and pretty lienient. its important to bring medical records and RX. that way he can approve you on the spot w/o asking you to come back. all they did was take a blood pressure reading.

once you have your recommendation it will be valid for a year. then once it is up you pay the fee again and so on. you are able to go to any dispensary in the state. you pay the same as you would on the street and it is hit or miss. some say the 'medical' strains are the best they have ever had, but I have not seen anything much different that you would on the street (except for maybe the Purple Diesel I got which was not a diesel at all) the dispensary environments differ as well. some are cute, Martha Stewart cottage-type and some literally look like converted garages.

all in all, it is a good system and Im grateful for it.
  • The only advantage I have found to having an Rx is being legal to transport, and knowing the law states 'they' have to leave my smoke alone, or give it back, if for any reason I get pulled over in my car or some situation.

it's pretty liberal compared to NM - you don't have to pay for the card but it is really hard to find a doctor to sign off even though the list is strict here and anyone asking would have a pretty serious disease. It is getting better just from people asking and hopefully more doctors will come on board.

It is so worth it to have it legal, especially for growing - whew, you know! Not quite worth having MS ... but in Cali you can just have a bad back or insomnia, right? I'd gladly pay the money to have it legal just to grow and being able to go to a retail environment and pick out a strain like at baskin $ robbins 31 flavors is like something from some fairy story!

"and there is a magical land off to the far west where you can just stroll into a store and pick out whatever kind of weed you want" wow sure wish that was real??
      • It may seem like a smorggy board, but you can't 'handle' the bud, or pre test it, so you really are buying 'blind' unless you know of the strain.
Having spent some time in the past trimming for a living, I know appearance from an awesome trim job giving good shape is what clinic growers must have from the trimmers.
It seems like heaven to those from out of an enlightened system of legality. We really need a better way. I can pick up fruit in the store, feel it, smell it, and even get a free taste test. Not so with bud.
        • I think it's called a "Recomendation" fromt he Doctor. I don't think it's an Rx.
          • Recommendation. It's also called a prescription. I know theyre not the same thing. But people call them the same thing. Although my "official paperwork" uses the word recommendation.

under federal law it is illegal to write a prescription for MM on a prescription pad - the doctor could potentially go to jail. Also, doctors cannot grow or possess for distribution to MM patients. The supreme court has pretty well settled this and doctors are otherwise completely protected from federal prosecution in these matters. they can proscibe MM under state problems to patients and they can recommend MM to patients - they can even recommend marijuana in non legal states but they cannot say, O and here's Bob's address, he'll hook you with a dime bag, my brother. But they can advise you to treat yourself with marijuana if they want.
              • the docs 'legally' cant even tell you where the dispensaries are.

what kills me is no doctors know this and they dismiss any approach about heading my medical board out of hand - and I'm really in no position to enlighten them being doctors and all. Every professional i've approached so far acts as if to sign on as a medical board chairman to a non profit medical marijuana facility would mean instant professional decertification but that is not the case. In fact, no one in the world would even know it unless one decided to tell. I sent a letter snail mail to the state board asking for clarification straight up, no surprise they are not quick getting back. they don't want to put anything in to writing. everyone is scared to death. some doctors and nurses were found because at least eleven non profits have already submitted applications to the state and you have to have a medical board chairman in order to submit an application.

i'm sick of the fear and hiding and ignorance man i'm going in straight up light of day hello i'm here to help now fuck 'em all. I already picked out my balloons for the grand opening of BSMMR on them to fill with helium and hand out to the kids. Professional photographer, letter to the local press as well as invitation to the local indian reservation, the locals, including the local sherrif's dept. I'll also be sending letter to the DEA along with invitations to the grand opening. I won't be growing anything right at that time but will have everything set up and a license first. i'm sure i'll be the only commercial grower in NM not hiding in the shadows for all their worth frightend to death of criminals, feds and do gooders. I'm afraid of all that and MS too but fear is natural while overcoming it is human. time to remove the basket from the lamp my brothers and sisters

i've noticed something profound in terms of MM and legalization in that our older populace now has a totally different view of marijuana than even a few short years ago. so many people in their 60's even now have used or at least been around marijauna and they just don't see it as this evil weed that will kill us all. while they may not smoke and may vary on their opinions about whether or not smoking weed is a good idea, they don't have the knee jerk reaction of even their parents generation. The time has come for the cannabis train to leave the station, man
              • The Patient ID Center gave me a four page list of dispensaries all over CA. It's only a doctors job to give a recommendation. Then the ID Center takes care of the rest. It is interesting how two of my doctors and two cardiologists will NOT recommend anyone. I had to go to a different doctor a friend told me about. But I do have a few friends whos primary care physicians have given them recommendations. And they didnt charge over a hundred dollars for it.

you know i don't blame the doctors its all bullshit. it's just a plant and should be legal but trying to make it a medicine and involving western doctors is an unfortunate but I hope productive evolutionary step - when a doctor prescibes a pharmeceutical medication the doctor is relatively certain that the dose and quality are assured. Really, as a doctor, he or she would have no earthy idea what we might go on to consume when a "presciption" is given for medical marijuana. The state of New Mexico spent two years putting together a program here and there are no provisions for any kind of quality control at all other than one's facility is subject to inspection by the state health department, whatever that means?
If I were a doctor I would want to see strict batch control and random laboratory testing of the finished bud before sale
