I know, I know, I know, this is SUPER late notice, but we finally got our stuff worked out with spaces and times and we're coming to San Diego to teach in just under two weeks! My name is Baxter, and I have been teaching hooping for almost 4 years now and have been traveling and teaching workshops for almost as long. Nayeli has helped us get into a spot in SD, and we're going to come on out and see what happens. The hours of our workshops are a little, well... , unconventional. I hope that some of you can find a way to check us out. The space is limited, but I'm not anticipating running out of room.
I know some of you virtually, but I would LOVE to get know you in 3-D.
We're teaching a 2 day series on Feb. 5th (8:30-10:30 pm) and on Feb. 6th (8:30-11:30 pm.)
If you are interested in coming or want to find out more you can click: www.hooppath.com/cms/2009/...go-25-609/
If you want to find out more about me or what I do with the hoop, please consider visiting my site at www.hooppath.com/cms
Thank you in advance for your interest.

Re: Hey Everybody, I'm coming to San Diego!
Tue, January 27, 2009 - 10:23 AMThere really isn't a pre-req skill set. In NYC this past weekend, we had two students who were in their first hour of "flight time" and they managed pretty well. The thing is: I try to teach to the dominant skill set that is present. I think I do a pretty good job of pushing everyone to a higher intensity. My workshops are structured, but I give myself freedom to respond to the needs of the hoopers who are gathered. That's why I name the workshops based on the locale. Each workshop has a different feel than the last one. I have heard good things about the hooping in SD, so I imagine the workshop will have some Advanced elements to it. If I was to recommend a skill set, I would say that it is a good idea if people show up having (at least) tried to hoop in both currents (directions.) We're really big into that, and it sets up a large portion of our teaching foundation.
Having never been to SD, I'm sure you folks might be unsure what I'm about and what I emphasize with my teaching. My goal, of course, is to better everyone's hooping. That's number one, without question. I go about trying to accomplish that goal by pushing my students inward toward their own Rhythm. My goal is not to teach one style, but to facilitate an open, non-judgmental space out of which as many styles emerge as students present. There are a lot of techniques covered, but tricks (as far as their fulfillment) have a shelf-life and are only a temporary salve when one is feeling 'plateau'd.' The techniques we teach are meant to free the hooper from repertoire thinking, and push them into full-on expression and expansion.
I love answering questions, if anyone has any more, please fire away. A couple of you have already contacted me with advice on getting the word out that I'm coming and I really appreciate that.
