Sane Asylum

moderated - created 07/29/05
I want to create a place where people can learn to grow and change beyond the limitations they feel they have because they have been labeled as mentally-ill, addicted, victimized, disordered, or deranged. No one fits perfectly in this society. Those who fit the least cozily into the world's expectations are not incapable of having happy lives. In order to realize my dream, I need to gather a community of people who share it. I also need to learn more about what works and doesn't work in existing structures, modalities, and institutions. To these ends, I am starting a zine that will examine the subject. This is a research project. This is a dream. This is a way to begin creating for others a way to find the clear path I wish I had in the depths of my depression. Join me in revolution. Join me in education. Join me in Asylum.

This tribe is for you if you are interested in healing, recovery, and empowerment for those who have been called mentally ill. This is a place to discuss how external factors (the state of the world, culture, society, etc) impact our health and what we can do about it. It is a place to discuss how to promote change and growth within the systems that make us sick. Let's come up with some ideas for things we can do to improve the situation without waiting for the system to change.

I'd like this to be a discussion and perhaps a vehicle for change rather than a support group or rant. There are other tribes available for those purposes. Thanks!
