Re: salt house
Tue, September 25, 2007 - 7:10 PMI haven't eaten there, and the reports from those I know who have are pretty much what you guys have said. However...and this is for any homesick Canadians out there...Salt House serves poutine. I know this because my Canadian boss lunched there a few weeks ago and has been talking about it ever since. She's even invited me to join her there in a tub o' poutine. I can't, ah, wait.
For those of you who haven't been introduced to this dish: it's French fries topped with brown gravy and cheese curd. Evidently it is considered comfort food supreme by our friends to the north.
Cheese curd. Be still, my salivary glands. -

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 7:57 PMUnfortunately, the poutine served at Salt House is dumbed-down version. It's served with white cheddar cheese instead of the yummy cheese curd. Indeed a proper poutine is fantastic. The best I've had was in Montréal at Au Pied de Cochon... The poutine had all the essential ingredients plus an extra bonus--a slab of foie gras. It was fantastic. Needless to say, I had to roll myself home after the meal. In fact, I think I'm still full.

Thu, December 13, 2007 - 5:08 PMI've eaten there 4 times and each time has been better. My most recent visit was just fabulous. Go late (9:30 or later) to avoid the noise & the crowds. I don't return to many restaurants but this one is worth it.
