Tangerine

Tried out Tangerine on 16th and sanchez for the first time, tonight
Not impressed, overall.
Friendly and good service which is always a plus.
The menu was loaded with out of season ingredients. Why?
okra in black bean sauce could be quite interesting but why bring okra in from south american in april when you can wait till July. And corn fritters in April? One of the people i was with ordered the corn fritters and it was very greasy and loaded with white sugar. The taro cakes were also loaded with sugar. Love taro and it is nice to see it on menus which is not that common but hold the sugar.

The polenta dish was interesting but overall did not come together. A polental cake covered with caramelized onions, some tofu, a few julienned vegetables and a lime coconut sauce. The caramelized onions did not work with this sauce.

It is a nice space, very warm, friendly people but the mediocre food does not make me desire to return

I've never eaten dinner there, but brunch is fantastic (and very popular). I highly recommend the pancakes with coconut syrup, as well as the macaroni pancakes. Their egg dishes are also great.

It has recently become a *very* popular brunch spot, though, so expect a wait at peak brunch times. It does not, however, seem to be popular for dinner and I guess we know why thanks to Philip's review. They do offer a lot of discounts (free wine on Wednesdays, etc.) but brunch seems to be their forte.
