Schnitzel Haus

Okay, here it goes: How can I describe this place? its the Schnitz. Ultimate boys-night-out place. We keep going back. You have to start with a 2 liter beer boot. I mean seriously, have you ever drank a beer out of a glass boot? You really have not lived yet. As you drink it, you stare down into what looks like an olympic-sized swimming pool of
beer. Seriously, if you like beer, get the 2 liter boot. If you down it, you get immediate street cred from the owner. Of course, my street cred was blasted when I simply could not pronounce my sausage dish no matter how hard I tried. I just can't loosen up my throat enough for those gutteral German sounds. But yeah, have not tried Schnitzel yet because the sausage dishes are so good. Just the homemade sausage, homemade kraut, potatoes and spicy mustard. Mmmm, das good food! Also, the potato pancakes with the applesauce are hands down the best I have ever had. Super thick and crispy but not greesy. 9th and Folsom, right next door the erotic bakery.

Sounds rockin. Boots are frequently available back in Chicago. I've been looking for a place that serves das boot. Were yards of beer available there as well?

A yard is a long thin drinking device.

As someone who lived in Germany for several years, Speisekammer has by far the best German food I've had in the Bay Area to date. Great Schnitzel, good selection of beers, and a full bar.

Schnitzel house is indeed cozy, and the owner is nice, but the food just wasn't up to snuff. Good place to grab a beer in S.F. though.

As for Suppenkuche, I don't know how they could possibly call what they make "Schnitzel." It was so bad in fact that I returned it. The best way I could describe it is meat breaded with corn flakes.

In all fairness, the owner did come over and insist upon refunding me for the meal, however he was particularly nasty about it, stating that the method of cooking I was describing to him and what I'm accustomed to having was how they made things in the 50's. I've been back to Germany recently and I guess all the restaurants I've been to haven't gotten clued in either because they were still making food the way I remember.

This place IS truly awesome. I've preferred it to Suppenkuche, because it's cozier and quieter and more personable, and because you can rap with the owner and get street cred. And yes, the bathrooms are just fine.

You like sausages and beer? Can I get your number? Just kidding. My wife is anxious to try out the potato pancakes. Ignore us boot-drinking idiots in the corner.
