Went to the hot new spqr italian restaurant in the Filmore on Tuesday night. We thought being a Tuesday, it might not be too hard to get in. Wrong, 90 minute wait. No problem, we said, we will go to a bar and come back.
So, 90 minutes and two rounds of drinks later, we come back to spqr, and the hostess immediately recognizes our party of 4, but said "Oh, I am sorry, I didn't know you were coming back."
Okay, this is sort of our fault. There were 4 of us, and in the confusion of the hectic entryway, we all managed to assume someone else put a name in. But at the same time, why didn't she try to get a name from us? And clearly when we came back she knew exactly who we were, it was about 8:30 by now, she could not sneak us in? Nope, you'll have to wait another 45 minutes.
So, I don't know. I think that was pretty lousy. I mean, clearly, they can afford to neglect customers now with their 90 minute Tuesday night waits.. but will that be such a wise decision 6 months from now when you are no longer the hot new thing? None of us will be returning.
So, went up the street to Fresca, the Peruvian place and had a fine meal. Excellent Ceviches!

This is exactly the kind of thing "most likely to go wrong" at a busy new
restaurant and eventually straighten itself out: hostesses, especially,
often aren't selected on the bases of their experience and organizational
skills.
I'd say if the food maintains a good rep, give it another shot someday. -

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 7:51 PMI don't hang in the Marina or Pacific Heights.
The people suck in those hoods. Some nice boutiques though.
Of course, in my wonderbreadhood Noe, it's a different version of suckage and the good restaurants are..................scarce.
Don't mind me: I've had many cookies today and the judgmental button in my head is just sort of going ding a ling ding

Sat, April 26, 2008 - 7:47 PMWe had a group of 8 trying to get in. We got in after a wait. Though they screwed up the front for us too. Made a table for 6. This wouldn't fly after a long wait. We packed in to the tiny spot.
The food was amazing. The service was great. They treated us to a round of champagne for the f*** up. The brussels sprouts were unbelievable. I would happily go back anytime.
