Hi All
I was just thinking that it would be very usefull if the Turkish members of the list could supply us monolingual people with a few key words in Turkish. For instance the word "dersi" seems to mean lesson in English which got me the following.

in this video, when he bends his thumb around on that last night, is he actually using his thumb to hold the string down, or just playing it open.

i am starting to think i will have to learn turkish just to help with my saz studies. :)

hi angie, yes it looks like that last stroke is an upstroke into the string closest to your head. so he would be using that thumb to fret the note.

you have the divan though, right? is the tuning on that the same ratios as the shortneck? i think that's what he is playing. if they aren't the same that would be a problem. hope they are! it's great he has posted these exercises.

i wasn't wondering so much about playing this particular song as i was wondering if you use the thumb that way.
thanks for the answer ... so much to learn!
