The Oakland based band is on a western tour and is pleased to be able to help out the farm with our efforts towards the new Fairview (all buildings included). The band is described as playing psychedelic-soul and rock music. They are very family friendly and you can plan on getting your dancing feet moving for this one. Tickets are on sale for $12. We will have food and beverages for purchase as well. Call the farm office to purchase tickets.

"Mike McHugh,aka DJ,brought together a dynamic group of musicians on Friday night at Velvet Jones. It was over four hours of seamless grooves with DJ laying down thick beats, underneath fluidly angular guitar licks. They traversed through zones of hip hop, afro beat and funk. The talented guests included three MCs (Playbac stood out the most), an African singer and talking drum player. Dave Brogan played the kit most of the night and it was awesome to see him in a different space. Hip hop with live musicians and the ripping guitar was a treat. Velvet Jones is a great place when it's not too crowded. There was a woman (didn't catch her name) painting a day-glo piece onstage through the show. Glad to feel the good sense of community amongst local musicians."

Her roots-based blending of folk, jazz and country is as infectious as it is unique. So much so that she has recently been out supporting everyone from Lucinda Williams to Dave Matthews. And her latest release - "Keep Your Silver Shined" - is receiving glowing reviews the world over.

Natalie is from Australia and was part of Perth 's alternate-country darlings Flavour of the Month. She shares her time time between Perth and Santa Barbara and whilst across here she has been recording, playing shows, and also guesting with the likes of Victoria Williams. Formed in 1999, Sweeter Than the Day began simply as the acoustic incarnation of Zony Mash. The band played a series of weekly shows at Seattle's Baltic Room, and quickly became Wayne Horvitz’s first piano-based ensemble in over 10 years.

Despite the shared personnel, the ensemble is quite distinct from the electric Zony Mash and the repetoire is almost entirely different. The band has toured throughout the US, Canada and Europe, and has a West Coast tour of the US planned for March of 2007. Sweeter Than the Day also presents double bills with Robin Holcomb, where it also serves as Robin's backup band.

Sweeter Than the Day recorded 2 CDs for Songlines: American Bandstand (now re-titled Forever) (2000) and Sweeter Than the Day (2002). The band's most recent recording is A Walk in the Dark (2008).

Lebowitz will be playing with Guitarmageddon on Friday. JGB feat

desk of Evergreen Lodge for $40 for Fri or Sat or Sun, and $20 for

Camping info:

- free camping is as close as 150 yards from the Evergreen, about a one
minute walk
- free camping is w/o any facilities or services, it is just open
forest/ground.
- If folks want more privacy and serenity, they can just camp farther
away from the lodge on any fire road.
- RV's are allowed on fire roads
- Be bear safe and store food securely in cars, not in tents. Bears are
VERY active this year.
- Campfire permits can be picked up at any forest service office and
camp stoves are allowed.
- Evergreen is planning to have paid showers

ok. Summer Soulstice is going down on a 30 acre private property overlooking the Pacific Ocean just north of Santa Barbara from Fri. June 22nd to Sunday June 23rd. It is a private event and there will be no major advertising on this. That also means no cops or busts. This event is in the same spirit that we approached mayflowers1. Phamily, heavy VIBE and totally off the radar. The only advertising will be email blasts through my lists, tribe and myspace as well as the artists involved. there is a 300 person cap on attendance. SB Kickball league - want to play?

If any of you are interested in playing in the Santa Barbara league for the upcomming season shoot me an email at sbkickball@gmail.com. Last season was the first for the Fiesta league and we had a blast! This season will be even better.

We're having a free pickup game August 3 at 6:30pm. We play at Dwight Murphy Field (Ninos Dr. and Por La Mar Dr.). Hopefully we'll see some of you there. Shoot me an email if you want all the details.

The best thing about kickball is that athletic ability is not a requirement - and everyone is equally talented once we get to the bar. It's a great way to meet new peeps.

Santa Barbara needs Blue Turtle Seduction to play Soho next time they come instead of the legends Lounge & Bar (Way to small and the sound sucks). SD tried to book Soho's last time but Soho would not give them another chance to play even though they had a fair crowd last time. Please copy/paste and email this below and help even if ya well never plan on going to Soho but can understand your favorite band playing a dive in your home town instead of the better venue. Thanks in advance.

Recommendation for new Mexican restaurant in SB

La Especial is located on the corner of Haley and Milpas. I know there are many reasons to visit this corner other than food, but let's try to focus on the food for a sec.

The restaurant shares space with a dry-cleaning business. Don't let this scare you as once you step into La Especial you have no idea there is another business on the other side of the wall. What to expect? Hand made corn tortillas, fresh salsas, and dishes made like the Hispanic mom you never would have cooked up fresh for you. I suggest to try one of the specials of the day.

My only gripe is that I've gotten better chips from Vons. At least they're free! Maybe we could suggest that they start making their chips fresh.

I give it three snaps straight up in a Z formation!

You all are invited to the 3rd Annual Santa Barbara All Star Jam - Saturday December 10th at Soho (9pm). The stellar lineup includes Brett Dennen, Rebecca Kleinmann, Steve Templeton, Sarah Jane Keith, Jon Payne, Randy Schwartz and Jim Connolly. The music and people will contribute to an excellent evening.

This is the holiday party for the SB Music Phreaks and is a dress to impress affair. More information can be viewed on sbphreaks.com. Hey yall,

My buddies and I are starting a new website to keep track of all the musicy stuff going on around here, get a community going and plan out some events of our own.

WE NEED YOU! We need you to come and use our message boards and consider going to the shows we promote and we need staff to write articles and keep up on events and plan shit out. Anyway, go to http://www.sbseen.com and check it out. If you're a girl we need you to write sbseen on your breasts and pogo-stick down state. It's ok if you're a pitchfork nerd, we all are.

So come check it out, if you have any time and know what's going on in Santa Barbara it would be awesome if you would help us write articles and plan events. If you're in a band and you want a place to promote your shows or host photos and songs that's what we're all about. If you want to promote pretty much anything this will be the place to do it. If your a wizard just stay the fuck away from me with all your scary shit. Seriously.

**** There is also a grander plan involving having a place to host any band websites or projects that people are working on and have a bigger and more active local message board than anything else has right now. Also I want to write articles about different local social scenes and the people that make them happen.
I know there are already communities in live journal and myspace and tribe and the yahoo sb-phreaks group. I know this has been done before, I found Phils(ptsengs) sbphreaks site which he still stays on top of. If word of mouth ever managed to regroup in a big way I missed it. I found the remnants of an old sb scene site made by Cris (ten thousand monsters woo!) and Chandler that I guess moved to/merged with/created the myspace islavistamusic group which is pretty much the big kahuna for this right now.
The difference between those and us is we want to get a lot more people working on creating content and posting photos and music and planning our own events and we want to get peoples works hosted on their own little sub-sites and writing run-on sentences. If something is just run by one or two people it burns out after a few months, if it's run by a community that's into it then it can do some really big stuff for a long time. Eventually we want to promote all this and get new people into the scene so we can have more clout getting bands to come and have more crazy shit going on. There is also a lot to be said for having our own site that we are in total control of rather than just fitting into whatever advertisement filled form that myspace or yahoo can give us.

oh and this isn't just some mass post I'm making never to check on, what do you guys think of this?

So lets get down to business, how do we get this tribe to take off like the SB music phreaks? I was curious as to whether or not anyone has ever informed the people on the yahoo group as to this tribes inception or if those folks are even aware of the existence of tribe.
